One of my fav shows. Neil Patrick Harris made this show what it is in my opinion. Fav scene by far was when he flew to San Fran to tell lily to come back. Gives me chills every time
The worst thing about the ending was the way they truly destroyed Barney. Not cool man. He really changed and then they just brought him back to the beginning as if Robin had been just another chick he banged...
moonlight bae No at the very end after he has a baby he acts as if he is going to hit on girls, then tells them to go home and get their life together 😂
I agree, even after he had the kid it just felt wrong to me. I like to think that the REAL ending was where Ted's wife didn't die and Robin and Barney stayed together and adopted kids or something. It would've been a lot happier and felt more like the ending we'd all waited for.
" if its not gonna happen with Robin, then its not gonna happen with anyone" This sentence means A LOT tbh. and it supports character development until and through the end of the show
Barney has a giant fear of abandonment, which leads to him going back to his old behavior patterns everytime he has a breakup to avoid getting emotionally hurt again. This is why I also think having a child is a great ending for his story, because he finally has someone who is not going to abandon his love.
They also ruined Robin because they portrayed her as a pathetic woman who only gets interested in a guy when he's in a happy and committed relationship. I'm pretty sure that's how she always was but it's annoying how that's how she ended up instead of just staying with Barney forever since he's her perfect match.
Wasn't a fan of that part myself but I think I am in the minority in that I liked how they killed off the mother. Not because the entire show was about how he loved Robin, but because the whole show was a continuous and massive emotional gut punch to Ted. Throughout the entire run the only thing about the characters that didn't change was that Ted was almost constantly in emotional pain. The death of Tracey was just another part of that, he finally meets the woman he has been looking for for 8 years and ends up losing her too. He finally thinks he will have his happy ending only to have it taken away like it always was. Robin and Barney being married for all of 5 seconds was a massive dick move though.
But you know what's even worse robin and ted get together when they could have use season 9 to get ted to realise robin is the one and, may we please talk about how robin could not have kids???!! So unfair!! I personally liked Tracy alot !! And they should have ended it at the train station instead of wasting our time but I loved the show!
It would have been really cute if we saw Ted talking to Tracy in the sky. Like how Tracy talked to Max. I thought that seen was underrated and made me cry
I have a theory, that may be the reason when he was on the beach with Robin on her wedding day that’s why they had her float up into the sky as he let her go as a love interest. Temporarily 😒
This show is having my heart.... I smiled I got angry I laughed I cried..... this show got me through every emotions... Whenever I start watching this show it takes me to the beautiful journey to their world and i always hope my future will be as amazing like they have shown here... I miss HIMYM very very very much...
He was awesome, though it kind of makes sense what Segel said. Marshall had the least character growth in the last 2 seasons. Not to say I didn't enjoy his character but I can imagine how he didn't feel like playing him repetitively.
@@the_bottomfragger He didnt even have much development in the 1st 7 seasons either which sucks. I guess you truly figure out who you are when youre single which is why him and lily never changed much.
Something that was left out, Alyson Hannigan hated Jason Segal’s smoking so much that they added the couples high fives instead of kissing in most of their scenes together.
The high fives are really awesome though, it really makes them feel like a team that shares a sense of superiority and subjective unreachable awesomeness compared to everybody else.
The Dude Which made it better because what seems perfect may in fact, not be perfect. They grew apart because of their lifestyles and that's a natural thing. Maybe if Robin hadn't gotten her dream, they would have stayed together, but the cost of her dream being realized was her marriage to Barney.
I was a big supporter of Barnie and Robin. So much so that I stopped caring about Ted meeting the mother. But everyone who says that Robin and Barnie seemed perfect together seems to forget that before the wedding the writers were signaling that the marriage was doomed. There was Barnie's mother learning that Robin couldn't have children and reminding him that he always wanted children. Which was a shock at the time and seemed strange to me how a man who seemed to have no interest in a long-term relationship would want children. But more telling was when Robin herself obviously got cold feet and almost didn't go through with it. At the time none of these things made much sense to me. I missed all the other foreshadowing that the story was really the love story of Ted and Robin and not Ted and the mother but that doesn't mean Ted didn't love the mother. And even though my first reaction to the ending was to cringe, after the fact I realized that the writers had set up that ending all along. Robin and Barnie were great together but from the beginning they were doomed to fail.
The Dude Yeah, similarities like how Robin can’t have kids and doesn’t like being around them while Barney always suggests that having them is a bad idea. They should’ve stayed together.
Barney and Robin getting separated was very realistic, they maintained the characters by doing so. However, Tracey dying was very odd and definitely seemed like it was a last minute decision or something because cmon, what are the chances?
angel mitra Actually its kinda fine, that Tracy died. I mean, Ted and Tracy were in love and stuff, but both also loved another person (Robin, Max). So they lived together and had children, but in the end they got together with the person they always loved, too. Tracy with Max (in heaven?) and Ted with Robin. Also that Ted and Robin thing was only able to work out because she hadn’t had to have kids with him (Tracy already did and R. only ‚hates‘ young kids).
@@angelmitra7148 No way that it's a last minute change as the kids say : "Dad it's been 6 years since she has died" and all kid scenes were shot in season 1. The reason most probably is the kid scenes. They already shot the scenes before establishing the whole show and going with the route of Barney and Robin
@@robinscherbatsky1856 Of course I forgive you. I mean, you're Robin. You're the love of my life. Why shouldn't I forgive you? C'mon, it's Barney. He wants every woman. He even tried to sleep with my mom and Lily.
When you have a successful sit com that last for a long time in order to resonate in the hearts and survive the test of time. You need to end the show on a good note. They honestly found the perfect actress to play Tracy her and ted had so much chemistry. That what really messed it up. The writers didn’t realize the magnitude of the influence this actress had. When you see them together it just felt right! Not forced upon. Rare to introduce somebody so late and have it feel so right The last season felt like lazy writing. Have a whole season dedicated to a wedding. So many episodes that showed how Barney and robin were perfect for each other. Just to break them up in less than one episode like if their relationship meant nothing.
Tracy was sooooo nice and she was a musician which made me love her even more, on the other hand Barney and Robin were ENDGAME he really decided to stop chasing bimbos because he had found love and for the first time in his life he didn’t feel empty same thing with Robin, she always said she sucked at relationships and Barney as well but they decided to mature to be together and I think that’s beautiful.
They weren’t made for each other, clearly the fact robin had multiple thoughts of ditching the wedding and going through with it shows they aren’t made for each other
@@Almapp kinda true but I think it happens quite often that the future wife and husband are stressing before the wedding. I agree they weren't the one for each other tho. It felt like what Barney really wanted was his own kid, but what the heck Robin was looking for I haven no idea :DD I don't really like the idea of Ted and Robin getting together. For me Tracy and Ted are/were the best fit bc with her he wasn't rushing the wedding and having a wife like he did with other potential gfs he has had. Idk I'm still figuring it out XD
Arreane Coyoca lol i think youre confused about the real actor and the character who was played by *that* actor in the series. Barney is never gay, but Neil (the actor) is gay irl.
Fun fact, the name of the mother - Tracy - was known since the first season actually. In season 1 episode 9, Ted tricked his kids by telling them that their mother was a stripper who gave a fake name then stated her name was "Tracy"...
I felt so sorry for Barney in the last season, we see that he likes kids and he gets a baby which is lovely, he was willing to give it up for Robin, he travelled around with Robin, he tried to make a marriage work with the one person he had been in love with fully since that first girl who broke his heart. Yet his friends, especially Lily (who I love and understand her pov) kept wanting to change him from being a player when it's the only way he seems to know how to cope with break ups and to keep himself from getting hurt again. They built nearly an entire series around his wedding! And they demolished it all within 5 seconds of saying they got a divorce. It does reflect some real life situations but it's not what we want. I would have loved for him to have stayed with Robin. Bit confused on the end part, did he get custody of 31's baby or just visitations?
It only made sense. It was the only way it could have possibly ended. If it would've ended with Ted meeting Tracy, it would've been the most boring, predictable ending in all of history. 9 seasons, leading up to what we already knew would happen? There had to be a twist. And as is described by Ted's children in the very last episode, it is clear that the entire story was only told so that he could explain his love for Robin and get permission to move on from Tracy's death. The series starts with Ted falling in love with Robin, that love is displayed throughout the entire series, and in the end, he finally wins her over once and for all. Y'all need to get your shit together and realize that the ending of HIMYM is absolutely perfect, it could not have gone another direction. The entire series had led up to that point, Ted stealing the blue french horn and finally getting Robin back.
I think the only thing that truly bothered me about the ending is that if Ted ended up going back to Robin then doesn't that just mean that Tracy was just another one of his girlfriends and Robin is his actual true love? I would rather be left with the thought that Tracy is his true love even though he and Robin are cute together. It just didn't feel right
@@fatimabadawi4113 if you do the calculations they weren't married that long, I remembered checking it. The way it ended was fucked up because the show's main idea, was how I met your mother. It should've stuck to that. The ENTIRE show the kept dramatizing and hyping up Ted meeting Tracy, only for them to pull that bullshit? like what was even the point? If she was gonna die and he was just gonna end up with Robin. They should've named it "how I got Robin" but then again we should've known when they kept going back to the Ted and Robin story line, it always confused me why they kept going back to it when he was gonna meet this one hit wonder, THE GIRL FOR HIM and live out his days. But noooooo The show was a light hearted comedy not some thriller that had to end in so sad. I mean it was really good, but they fucked up the story line.
THANK YOU! I have just finished watching the show, and I was really disappointed and was saying the exact same thing.Throughout the whole series they made it obvious, the one for Ted is one who passes The Robin Test, the one who can make him finally forget Robin. Even Victoria literally said it: You are still single because you're still hanged on Robin. The only thing that would have made Tracy really special was if they showed us that Tracy tops Robin for Ted, but they didn't... Instead, Tracy is just another Victoria who got lucky because when Ted was dating her, Robin was married and traveling a lot... Such a disappointment...
I love Marshall and Lily. Their relationship to me is the foundation on which the rest of the show stands. I'ld go as far as to say them staying together in the end is what makes the ending bearable for me. Had they separated as well I couldn't have watched the show a second time.
There won’t be any show like this ever in a million years. All the actors and directors, writers did terrific job this complex storytelling this efficiently and easily shown is amazing The Guest stars are legendary The story is legendary The main characters are legendary Miss those days when I didn’t knew about this series and then discovered it 😐
I was (and, to a certain degree, still am) a huge fan of HIMYM and will happily revisit and rewatch every single episode of that show... except the final episode. I'm still not okay with the way it ended, and it's been three years already. :') I think what bothers me the most about it is how I thought the whole premise, the *message* of the show was that even if you think you're desperately in love with someone for several years (the way Ted feels about Robin), someone even better might come along and make you even happier (Tracy). It was such a comforting idea. Heartbreak and being forced to move on from past relationhips is something most of us can relate to, and it's not always easy. And in a lot of other TV series and Romcoms, the overall theme is to stick it out and wait for that "one love" to return to the main character so that they can live happily ever after (Ross and Rachael from FRIENDS is one of the most obvious examples of this). I thought HIMYM was different. I thought the message was that even though Ted was so sure that Robin was his one true love, he eventually moved on and found Tracy, who made him even happier. There was even that whole episode about how Ted lets Robin go at the beach, and I thought that episode MEANT something, you know? But nooooo. Ted STILL ended up with Robin in the end. How original. Stomped all over my heart.
Ciiah Kultti Tracy was his soulmate and Robin was his true love. That's not an illogical situation, and it played well. If Tracy hadn't died, we're certain that they would have stayed together no matter what. Sorry if you think that one true love and soulmate HAVE to be one in the same and that a person can't make a permanent choice between them.
Ciiah Kultti and the fact that Robin was a vile and despicable character with little redeeming qualities...Ted wasn't the best but he was always too good for Robin...
"Soulmate" is just a made up term that is actually a flattering way of saying "true love" As love and connection towards other people don't just happen. Love is not just a feeling out of control it is an action. So no - it is total bullcrap and written like from a 13 year old kid that never had to get over anyone ever in their life and think their lifes will be over forever once their high school bf / gf breaks up It's too convenient. Robin gets to travel, Ted gets to have his kids and baam everyone gets whatever they wanted from life AND STILL could get their happily ever after together. No. Sorry that is just beyond ridiculous. That's not life. That is childish dreaming and the writters made it easy on themself. You know you can have a show with a clear line that gets followed and have a twisted ending and everyone will be like oh wow! Didn't see this coming - now it all makes sense! (Snape in HP for example who was portrait as the bad guy - Lupin telling Harry how he is "blinded by hatred" some really strong lines) Or you can have a show like HIMYM that is nothing but twists that should lead up to an ending in which all should fall together finally and make sense that way. But keeping up a story with nothing but twists and ending with a twist... Ridiculous, very cheap made
+Nino Circus Freak How did everyone get what they wanted? The perfect mate that Ted wanted ended up dying after only a few short years. Robin found out that she could never have children, which is heartbreaking because it locked her completely out of the option which made her redouble her focus on her other dreams. How did it end with a twist? He started off the story(the entire series) with how he fell in love with Robin. If that wasn't a big enough red flag for you then I'd love to see you struggling to watch movies with obvious twists. He then continued the series with all the women he went out with subsequently BUT also how he and Robin kept ending up together. What would have been "too convenient" would have been if Ted got exactly what he always wanted and that was the end. Instead of a fairy tale ending, we got a bitter sweet one. No one even processes the fact that Robin pretty much sacrificed her marriage for her career or that Ted had to watch his soul mate slowly leave the world while he could do nothing. I'm tired of the hate of the real ending because it just seems like people who are bitter that it didn't end in the super happy way they wanted.
Now that it has been a few years since the ending I have to say it actually makes a lot of sense. Why would Ted be telling his kids this long story of how he met his wife? The only two things that still bothers me is why the season long wedding? And if they knew the mother was going to die the whole time (which again, makes a lot of sense if you think about it) why didn't they build up to it better? The final episode seems as though it was thrown together at the last minute which was strange seeing how calculated the show was. All and all it's still one of the best sitcoms I've ever seen
I felt like the last season could have been executed so much better so that is why I hated the ending. It was so rushed so you didn't have time to accept these things. There were so many episodes in the last season that could have been eliminated to make way for more time to prepare the audience for the future
I felt like the wife dying storyline wasn't thought out at all, which is so disappointing considering it was planned from season 1. The last season felt boring to me even the first time I watched it and seems so pointless and drawn out with their ultimate divorce. If the writers really wanted Ted and Robin to be together, I wish they'd have at least not left it like nothing had happened and we were just back after the start :(
I know I‘m late to the party but these are my thoughts exactly! I like the ending and it makes sense that it was always about Robin (duh, the series starts when he meets her) but there were so many „unnecessary“ episodes in the final season which could have instead been used to show Robin and Barneys marriage and divorce and Ted and Tracys life and her illness etc..
True. I didn't even have the time to get used to Tracy, to like her, so I would feel bad for her when she was dying. But no, I didn't feel bad or sorry for her death due to last season's rush
they rushed the last season because marshal wanted to leave...? as it said in the video, they would have kept it going and continued dragging it out but they had one season to wrap everythin gup so they sqqqqueased it all in
When you were watching the show as they were released, it was painfully long wait to meet the mother and that's why i think people were pissed when she was just killed moments later. But when i bingewatched the whole series in couple of weeks, i didn't even find the ending bad
@@mariarueda8942 Same, it was a true ending, instead of seeing it has "They killed the mother" is more like "The mother died". HIMYM always treated real things, life isn't a fairy tail. And yes, Ted went back to Robin, but it isn't like "Turns out Robin was his true love". Ted loved Tracy, Tracy happens to die, and it was painfull (I would have liked a funeral scene) but the time pass and Ted move one, there isn't such a thing as "The one", you just love someone and work in the relationship. You can love someone, and love anyone else after, that's why there isn't a "One", that would mean any widow/er can move on. (Sorry for the mistakes, English isn't my first languaje)
I disliked it after seeing it for the first time and after binging it again. Robin and Barney where just a perfect fit, way more than Ted and Robin - and I mean that very objectively, Robins character just went super crazy and strange in the last few season and Barney was strange form the beginning their time together was just hilarious.
LOVED THE ENDING!! TED AND ROBIN 5EVER! I think it's like reviews... people like bitching more than saying something was OK or good.. I was so happy that Ted and Robin ended up together.. I was so upset the whole show that I wanted them together and it had already been confirmed that she wasn't the mother.
Another fun fact: Each of the main characters has proposed or been proposed to at least twice throughout the series. Marshall proposed to Lily in season 1, and she re-proposed back to him in season 2. Barney proposed to Quinn in season 7, and then to Robin in season 8. Robin has been proposed to by Kevin in season 7, and then by Barney in season 8. Ted has even proposed three times altogether: to Stella in season 3, to Victoria in season 8, and to Tracy in season 9. Speaking of Tracy, she's also been proposed to twice -by Ted and, previously, by Louis.
Thank you. So many people just don't get the directors' vision. This series may have been heavily comedic, but it was also deeply rooted in very serious, real-life undertones. So no, in real life, you don't always get the happy ending. Doesn't mean it was bad. My only complaint in fact was just how fast they ended it (meaning Barney and Robin's break up, that could've been given more attention). Aside from that, content wise, I loved every twist. The ending was determined from the beginning, so complaining about it doesn't really mean much lol.
It would’ve been really cool if the 31st woman that Barney slept with and got pregnant with Ellie was the character that Britney played. They could’ve reunited and built a good relationship, being able to share stories of how they first met (and how Britney thought that Barney proposed to him) and how they reunited. Although, whilst they were planning on getting revenge on Ted, Barney thought of the relationship more as a best friend that could’ve been built from that moment on. But, usually you’re partner would be your best friend, but I feel like they could’ve had potential to grow as an actual couple.
Barney and Robin were my favorite couple in the show and I had been waiting them to marriage forever. The way of the ending make me crying and searching about another angle to look at it.
I think she aged gracefully, though. Plus, she became a mother in season 4, so it's only natural that she didn't continue looking 28 in later seasons. Still beautiful, though. :) (Though I did think it looked a little odd when she was playing "young goth Lily" in later seasons.)
tbh I'm super mad they killed Tracy, she didn't do anything wrong and barely stuck around long enough to make an impression. It might've been like 7 years in their lifetimes but it was like 10 mins for the audience of seeing their marriage and lives together
I mean like come on. The ending wasn't as great but it clearly shows that it doesn't have to be a happy ending. Happy endings are common in movies and tv series and probably that's what got into the producer's minds. Pretty sure they wanted to change it so it could be different. Not every movie/tv show ending has to be a happy ending.
Bagels Are Donuts Without Ambition I mean like at first I was like why but later on, I understood why the producers wanted a very different ending. Everybody wants a happy ending in their lives but things happen. The producers wanted it to show that life doesn't always have happy endings.
@Jay Anthony You can get a feel for how someone might portray a character if you have seen that actor in multiple shows and movies... I agree that she would not have played Robin as great as Colbie did.
Das Bloo The way you and others put it, you make it seem like the broke up or something. She died. it happens, and it was a painful thing for Ted, but at least he got to be with his soulmate at all. I bet if you asked him, he would do it all over again knowing how it would end. That's the endearing part. I get why people don't like it, but at least he met her and got to enjoy that life he always wanted for a while. The same can't be said about a lot of people.
Gorrak Do'Urden they even admitted before the DVD was released that the re-edit of the final episode happened due to backlash of the fans. Your argument falls flat right there.
Lily was extremely underrated in my opinion. She wasn’t my fave but she was amazing. She was the rock and the rational one on the group (most of the time)
"How I met the girl who gave me kids and then after she finally died I ran back to the girl I was obsessed for YEARS although she never loved me and was in love with my best friend" That should be the actual name. Thank god I've only watched the alternative ending
Then you're missing out. Robin did love Ted but they wanted different things out of life. By the end of the story, they have both git what they wanted and can be together without getting in each other's way
Yes they should. They weren’t compatible. Barney’s regression worked due to heartbreak and him (like his original reason for being a womaniser) not believing in love again. Robin was destined to be alone. She and Ted getting back together is where the issue lies, she never loved him, she was just jealous watching his happy ending with Tracy, when she says he’s the one she probably should have ended up with. That alone wasn’t enough to end it by Ted running back to her. Despite the fact tonally it fits the show and makes complete sense.
@@jays___ They were both sneaky liars. They couldn't trust each other. Barney was immature but awesome and Robin was mature and awesome. A Perfect Match.

this show holds so much emotional value to me. I'd come home to my mom passed out on the couch some nights so I don't remember all of them, but the one I remember most is coming home with this show playing and sat next to the couch and rested my house on it and watched all night. that night is also the reason why I did not watch the show correctly. I felt like I'd seen enough so what I did was I watched the show on repeat even while I slept until I'd eventually seem every episode. and I still do that I've seen it at least 20 times
According to me.. Barney and robin should never had been divorced. They were so perfect for each other. But i hated watching ted suffer like that. But after he found traci, it all fell perfectly. It could have a perfect ending. Marshall and lily with their third child Barney and robin married Ted and traci happily married But i guess the series wanted to show the undefined love ted and robin had for each other. Like during barney and robin's marriage, how sad did ted felt and at the day of their wedding robin too felt a bit the same.. Anyways it's a bit sad ending i guess.
The fact that cobie smulders had ovarian cancer really shocked me and showed that well even in a hard time she continued to be one of the greatest characters to grace sitcom history, props to her

@@olofpalme3662 yes, thank you ! So tired of people bashing the ending and wishing barney and Robin never divorced. Robin and Barmey were not meant for forever, they were what each other needed at the time . Barneys true love was his baby girl. With Ted and Robin it was about timing unfortunately . They both had true love with each other and Robin let him go so he could go have his happy life with a family . So he went on and did that with Tracy who he needed to be with for some time . He grew and learned so much from that relationship and Robin fulfilled her dreams of traveling and being a famous journalist and when it was time the universe brought them back together..even though it may have taken a bit . True love man . It always was with those two.
Of course Ted was the main character, but Neil Patrick Harris was the "biggest star" of the show, because if it wasn't for "Barney Stinson" there'd be no himym.
this show was just pure gold in a lot of ways. i cant begin to explain just how good the writers, directors, actors were. it was just amazing. they introduced the mom for like a season and i font even hate cristine. i actually loved her. and it took me only a season. will re watch this show over and over and over again.
It's funny that at 11:32, when you mentioned Stella, instead of showing Sarah Chalke, the actress that played Stella, you showed Malin Ackerman, the actress who played the actress that was portrayed Stella in the fake film "The Wedding Bride".
"Hey you know this 9 season show we have where the whole thing basically shows that ted and robin aren't compatible? Let's end the show by putting them together!"
I feel like the only real reason why they weren't compatible is that Robin didn't want kids. But since Ted has kids, and they're about the age to leave home, I guess that problem was solved and Ted and Robin get to have the happily ever after. I like it.
Spencer Swart yeah but that made their paths in life totally different and since they established early on that she was aunt robin not the mother, I already made peace with how robin would be with barney and ted with someone else. I personally did not like the ending
what about the hidden countdown in the one where Marshall's dad dies? and idk if it's true but it's been rumored he didn't actually know his dad was supposed to die so his reaction was genuine
This is hands down literally the ALL TIME BEST show to exist could watch this show over and over and I have they just took it off Netflix :(( I cried but hands down the best show ever to exist
One reallllly big fact that they forgot to mention, a bunch of Friends cast can be seen in some HIMYM episodes (not the main casts, but the smaller roles like Janice, which she is seen as a realtor for Marshall and Lily) I’ll name a few that I remember: -Well like I mentioned, Janice from Friends played the realtor that sold them the appartment in Dowisetrepla. -Ted’s mom also played Mike Hannigan’s(Phoebe’s boyfriend) mom. -Sherri Shepherd, who plays the woman that road trips with Marshall to the wedding I think her name was Daphne, plays one of Ross’s scientist friends from school -Natalie, one of Ted’s ex girlfriends that he breaks up with on her birthday, also plays Mike Hannigans girlfriend in Friends when he and Phoebe were broken up And I know theres more but I can’t seem to remember them right now.
Lee Joyner Please, Everyone, always treat Everyone and Everything with kindness, love and respect. Please always remember, Jesus is always there for you no matter what. Please open your hearts to love and please find Jesus!!!!!!!
this is my favorite show of all time. I literally have watched it more than 30 times. the whole thing. I know every single word of what they say and I still don't get bored... Idk why I love it so much tho!
Dani Carranza I'm somewhere between 10 and 15 times of watching the whole series. At this point it's even great as "podcast", just listening and doing some work at home and you still know exactly what's going on 😄
The ending is bittersweet, I know. BUT... that is the point of the entire series, and that's why they show Robin right before the title pops up one last time. Robin and Ted were always meant to be together, but they didn't want the same things at the same time. Robin focused on her career and Ted settled down. Since Ted already had kids on his own and Robin had made her success (she didn't want to raise kids or have kids on her own for that matter), they were perfect for each other in the end. The story is about how Ted was finally able to settle with Robin, who was the real "mother". I don't understand why so many people don't get that. His daughter even obviously hints to this in the final episode. This is well thought out, even if people prefer everything to be perfect and everlasting
Yea, I have to agree with Goku on this, Tracy was and always will be the real "mother," physically and symbolically. Robin was always Aunt Robin to them, and regardless, they were both too old to call Aunt Robin their mother; just like the rest of the show, it's not about the kids, it's about Ted. What the daughter is hinting towards is for Ted to chase after Robin again, for his benefit, not their benefit of calling Aunt Robin, "mother," because their mother had already passed away year before, no one will replace that.
You're right, the real mother not necessarily meaning the one who gave birth but the one Ted was really meant to be with. Think about it, why wait a whole 9 seasons to finally see the mother of Ted's kids only for her to feature for like 10 minutes of screen time?? They had this series played out real good, Robin was really the mother.
The whole point on the end was supposed to be that Ted gets over Robin and finds the true love of his life, and it’s supposed to show that something like that is possible. To find your true love even if you thought that something like that will never happen because you were in love with someone else for long time. End Barney and Robin were meant for together. I can’t explain what I mean but I hope you’ll get the point.
It would’ve been better if the series ended the day Barney and Robin got married and then just show a glimpse of Ted’s future life with Tracy, no divorces nor deaths, just perfection 🥲
Honestly, everytime I re-watch this series or something happens to me in real life, I totally relate to Ted Mosby which makes me happy & keeps motivated. I'm a person like Ted, who will do everything for his friends but will be still sad for himself. After completing this series, I realised I'm gonna meet my Tracy someday.
Feel so glad and grateful that Cobie Smulders got Robin’s role. She was so amazing and beautiful and into the character that we can’t imagine another person replacing her
If the intention was always that Barney was going to be a ladies man, there's no way Jim Parsons could have done that. Neil Patrick Harris can play a smooth seducer whether he's going for men, women, androgynous people or martians. I even think some parrots are little smitten by him. LOL he's just got that thing. Jim Parsons? Heck no...
Idk why but even the alternate ending sucked... Barney should never have married Robin, Ted should stay with the mother and Robin should be alone, it's what she always wanted, she didn't deserve either of them anyway.
so Robin and Barney would be right where they started after 9 years? that's just like Joey from friends, he was the only one that didn't really grow so he got a spinoff
Totally agree on Robin and Barney not getting married. He should have married Nora. But I do feel like the mom dying and Robin x Ted was a good move, I mean if Nora x Barney happened
I know im in the minority here but I actually had no problem with the ending whatsoever. I even....wait for it...liked it a lot. Maybe it's because I binged watched the show every single day on Netflix a few years after the show had ended. I honestly thought the entire show was how Robin and Ted were destined to be together at the end. I loved traceys character and of course was devastated by her death but that's what's so beautiful about this show. Life is never easy or how you expect it to turn out. How I met your mother has always been pulling that concept since season 1.
I'm so glad neil plays Barney and cobie plays Robin🙌🏽 and thank God the show made it that far so i can binge watch it over and over again it never gets old
I think a lot of people miss the point with the ending. Ted never truly got over his love for Robin. He was even planning on leaving the group and NYC to move to Chicago because of the pain of seeing the woman he loved with another man. He then meets the mother of his children. He did love Tracey. She helped him get past his love for Robin. They had children together and were a happy family. Ted lived out his dream. But sometimes life is hard. Robin and Barney grew apart naturally. Though they both loved each other, as in their first relationship, neither of them was happy and the relationship was strained by their lives. Marriage is complicated. Even if you love each other sometimes the relationship falls apart. The show was not afraid to reflect the messiness of the real world. After Robin and Ted's lives led them in different directions they ended up back together. They then naturally fell back into love with one and other. The entire reason their relationship ended the first time was that they wanted different things out of life. But after they both lived the lives they wanted for themselves they ended up back in each other's lives with nothing keeping them apart. Ted was always meant to settle down with Robin. She was the first girl he fell in love with and she was always what he compared his current love to. Barney was changed by his relationship with Robin. He learned how to love and live with another human being. After their divorce, he regressed to who he was before, but that was all he knew. After his life changed he was lost. But then he became a father and found meaning in his life again. Without Robin, he would have never have become a loving father. The show grew with it's the audience and ended with a mature ending. Not everyone gets a happily ever after. Sometimes life is messy and complicated. And though there were some rough parts, in the end, every one of the five characters does end up happy. Marshall and Lily even do get the fairy tale happily ever after.
I don't miss the point but I still don't like it. If you look at this twist alone it is GREAT really great and came out of nowhere which makes it even better, but the dynamic of the characters changed over the season and Barney and Robin worked better together than Robin and Ted. Just think about all the crazy things Robin did in the last few seasons, it was a perfect fit with Barney who is just as crazy. And the only real reason for Robin and Barney to grow apart was so that the writer could have their plottwist. The reason why they broke up just didn't seem strong enough for me. Also if you think about it. Ted loved his wife with all his heart and if she hadn't died he wouldn't have gone back together with Robin because if he had feelings for her, real feelings he would have just had an affair with Robin like he did at the time where he was in a relationship with the girl who went to Germany... , but he didn't so his wife was his one true love. Now Robin will always be the number 2. Which makes me sad. So yes I think it would have been nicer if Robin and Barney would have stayed together. Sure it would have not been like real life but it would have been a better fit for how the characters developed. But that's just my opinion
This is my favorite sitcom, but it’s hard to choose between this and friends 😂 But honestly, this show has thought me more about friendship than the friends show itself.
This is my comfort show, you know, the show you fall back on after a bad day or to get you through a bad time. Had watched and rewatched too many times I lost count!

" if its not gonna happen with Robin, then its not gonna happen with anyone"
This sentence means A LOT tbh. and it supports character development until and through the end of the show
Barney has a giant fear of abandonment, which leads to him going back to his old behavior patterns everytime he has a breakup to avoid getting emotionally hurt again.
It’s been 6 years and I still can’t believe the entire 9th season was the wedding only to find out they get DIVORCED 😭
FR
Ikr
Lexi Garcia EXACTLY
But you know what's even worse robin and ted get together when they could have use season 9 to get ted to realise robin is the one and, may we please talk about how robin could not have kids???!! So unfair!! I personally liked Tracy alot !! And they should have ended it at the train station instead of wasting our time but I loved the show!
It would have been really cute if we saw Ted talking to Tracy in the sky. Like how Tracy talked to Max. I thought that seen was underrated and made me cry
YOOOOOO that would’ve been awesome. Why are people not talking about that???
I have a theory, that may be the reason when he was on the beach with Robin on her wedding day that’s why they had her float up into the sky as he let her go as a love interest. Temporarily 😒

I was pretty disappointed when Barney and Robin got a divorce; I mean, there were so many signs saying that they were perfect for each other.
The Dude Which made it better because what seems perfect may in fact, not be perfect. They grew apart because of their lifestyles and that's a natural thing. Maybe if Robin hadn't gotten her dream, they would have stayed together, but the cost of her dream being realized was her marriage to Barney.
Also makes all of season 9 pointless
Angela Mastrodonato thank you for your honesty.
The Dude Yeah, similarities like how Robin can’t have kids and doesn’t like being around them while Barney always suggests that having them is a bad idea. They should’ve stayed together.
TRACEY SHOULD HAVE LIVED AND ROBIN AND BARNEY SHOULDN'T HAVE GOT DEVORCED
The Queen's Tea I liked the ending honestly
There is an official different ending in which this happens. Just search on YT
I should have ended up with Robin. If Ted really would've loved her, he would never have left her in the first place.
I totally agree :)
Yes! Me too! Marshall is totally wrong. They both were over each other!
@@robinscherbatsky1856 Ok ok ok. I can understand that Barney thinks like that. But you also think like that, Robin? That hurts...
@@theodoretedevelynmosby7674 I'm sorry, Ted. It was just a joke. I didn't wanna hurt your feelings. Can you forgive me?
Rare to introduce somebody so late and have it feel so right
The last season felt like lazy writing. Have a whole season dedicated to a wedding. So many episodes that showed how Barney and robin were perfect for each other. Just to break them up in less than one episode like if their relationship meant nothing.
dude i was also thinking the same thing like why tf was the entire last season a wedding??
the late but right thing is a good point.
I really liked Tracy ...
Best fact: Marshall’s father being the guy that does Patrick Star’s voice
Fun fact: for the Italian dialogues, Barney's voice is by the same dubber of SpongeBob's Italian version
OH MY GAWD
he was also on a hit show in the early 90s call Coach that aired for 9 seasons as well
I knew that already
Fun fact, the name of the mother - Tracy - was known since the first season actually. In season 1 episode 9, Ted tricked his kids by telling them that their mother was a stripper who gave a fake name then stated her name was "Tracy"...
I noticed that when I rewatched it lol!
Yup the kids' reaction should've made it clear to us 😂
I never realized that. Very clever to do that and figure it out.
oh shit
How did they not know the mother's name tho?
It just didn't feel right
Lool. Remember they had a deal, if they both reached cant remember the age and was single they'd get hitched
Saaameee
But noooooo
The show was a light hearted comedy not some thriller that had to end in so sad.

I was (and, to a certain degree, still am) a huge fan of HIMYM and will happily revisit and rewatch every single episode of that show... except the final episode. I'm still not okay with the way it ended, and it's been three years already. :')
I think what bothers me the most about it is how I thought the whole premise, the *message* of the show was that even if you think you're desperately in love with someone for several years (the way Ted feels about Robin), someone even better might come along and make you even happier (Tracy).
Ciiah Kultti LITERALLY THE WHOLE LAST SEASON IS BARNEY AND ROBIN'S WEDDING, AND THEY GET DIVORCED THE VERY NEXT EPISODE!!!!!!!!!
Ciiah Kultti and the fact that Robin was a vile and despicable character with little redeeming qualities...Ted wasn't the best but he was always too good for Robin...
"Soulmate" is just a made up term that is actually a flattering way of saying "true love"
As love and connection towards other people don't just happen. Love is not just a feeling out of control it is an action.
So no - it is total bullcrap and written like from a 13 year old kid that never had to get over anyone ever in their life and think their lifes will be over forever once their high school bf / gf breaks up
It's too convenient.
(Snape in HP for example who was portrait as the bad guy - Lupin telling Harry how he is "blinded by hatred" some really strong lines)
Or you can have a show like HIMYM that is nothing but twists that should lead up to an ending in which all should fall together finally and make sense that way.

I think we are very few people who think the series ended well
@@mariarueda8942 count me in
@@mariarueda8942 Same, it was a true ending, instead of seeing it has "They killed the mother" is more like "The mother died".
Barney uses 83% in his statistics exactly 83% of the time.

@@Valedroval no he uses 83% 100% of the time because every statistic he uses 83%

@@kolanit3689 thats right
The only way he uses is exactly 83% of the time is of he said it at least exactly 83 times wich i doubt
Very astute observation!
Thank.
Tracey was proposed to three times! Twice by Ted!
@@zeinabhamade6507 Good job! I totally forgot lol.

The ending still makes me cry
When Marshall's dad died...
TheMagicCreeper8 what a shit ending. Should have ended way before
that was the saddest episode!
TempleMoon nah man great ending!!
You missed enrique on the show. The guy who played Gael.
Gale was it? 🤣
also nicole sherzinger as robin sparkles' best friend
I think it was "Girl."
and Mandy Moore who played Amy in the same episode as Enrique.
I'm sorry, Kyle?
let's just take a second to appreciate how Britney saved the series. That woman has always been a living legend
I always wanted to hear more about Marshall. He seemed the type who had a Secret Life as a contract Killer.
The most disturbing thing was watching lily go from looking 28 most seasons to looking 48 the last 2 seasons
Joey G ain't that the truth
Joey G Omg exactly I thought I was the only one who noticed
Milla M. It was crazy how old she aged
whatabout Jennifer looking like you aged 20 years in 1 year is not natural
Lexi C I know right
Lee Yang But why take so long to tell the story of how he net their dead mother
Bagels Are Donuts Without Ambition I mean like at first I was like why but later on, I understood why the producers wanted a very different ending. Everybody wants a happy ending in their lives but things happen. The producers wanted it to show that life doesn't always have happy endings.

Das Bloo the alternate ending sucked in my opinion. I hate when story tellers pander to fans. Who's story is it? Yours or theirs?
the alternate ending was a possible ending they shoot, not for the fans, they picked the one they liked the most but both of them were possible
ComaAlpha Yeah, the show felt more grounded with the real ending.
Gorrak Do'Urden they even admitted before the DVD was released that the re-edit of the final episode happened due to backlash of the fans. Your argument falls flat right there.
Lily was extremely underrated in my opinion. She wasn’t my fave but she was amazing. She was the rock and the rational one on the group (most of the time)
the entire main cast was so good that she got overshadowed a bit, but i agree, i loved Lily as a character!

robin and barney shouldn’t have split up
Eh.. I always thought Quinn and Barney made more sense
@@jays___ YES.
Despite the fact tonally it fits the show and makes complete sense.

this show holds so much emotional value to me.
Marshall and lily with their third child
Barney and robin married
Ted and traci happily married
But i guess the series wanted to show the undefined love ted and robin had for each other. Like during barney and robin's marriage, how sad did ted felt and at the day of their wedding robin too felt a bit the same..
Anyways it's a bit sad ending i guess.
The fact that cobie smulders had ovarian cancer really shocked me and showed that well even in a hard time she continued to be one of the greatest characters to grace sitcom history, props to her
Imagine that sucker Sheldon as Barney. The series would have been a disaster.
TheFucker669 yeah totally

i know
Sheldon is an amazing actor he would do just fine.
I think he’s good for sheldon in the Big Bang theory but he really doesn’t scream bad boy womaniser
EVERYTHING IS OK BUT ROBIN AND TED SHOULD NOT HAVE GOTTEN BACK TOGETHER!.
@@olofpalme3662 true
Tracy came to give Ted n Robin kids 🤭
When Marshall is addicted to charts and graphs, he creates one for his favorite bars. McGees is one of his most liked bars shown.
Idk I think ted is the main character considering he was telling his kids not barney
Of course Ted was the main character, but Neil Patrick Harris was the "biggest star" of the show, because if it wasn't for "Barney Stinson" there'd be no himym.
He meant that Neil Patrick Harris was the highest profile actor in the show, not that he was the main character

I like it.

One reallllly big fact that they forgot to mention, a bunch of Friends cast can be seen in some HIMYM episodes (not the main casts, but the smaller roles like Janice, which she is seen as a realtor for Marshall and Lily)
I’ll name a few that I remember:
-Well like I mentioned, Janice from Friends played the realtor that sold them the appartment in Dowisetrepla.
-Ted’s mom also played Mike Hannigan’s(Phoebe’s boyfriend) mom.
-Sherri Shepherd, who plays the woman that road trips with Marshall to the wedding I think her name was Daphne, plays one of Ross’s scientist friends from school
-Natalie, one of Ted’s ex girlfriends that he breaks up with on her birthday, also plays Mike Hannigans girlfriend in Friends when he and Phoebe were broken up
And I know theres more but I can’t seem to remember them right now.
ross and monica's mom (christina pickles) also plays lily's grandmother
My name is Rhonda. And these ARENT REAL!

Just finished the show. I'm awestruck. And I loved the ending, I respect it the storywise. Life is just not a dream. I almost cried, it grew on me.
The real mother? So the lady that raised their kids for the first 10 or so years isnt the real mom? lul
@@motodog242 I have to agree with goku! Hahaha You just made my day with that
You're right, the real mother not necessarily meaning the one who gave birth but the one Ted was really meant to be with.
The only bad thing about HIMYM was the last episode
The entire season was bad
@@mill15u nah.. I like it very much

I know im in the minority here but I actually had no problem with the ending whatsoever. I even....wait for it...liked it a lot. I loved everything about the series. Every girls, the twists, every episodes, flashbacks and specially the ending❤️❤️❤️
Corey B. spot fucking on
Someone who gets it!
Best comment on here.
Agree with every word.
