This should be the ending:
1. Ted and Tracy lives on and having a wonderful family.
2. Barney and Robin changed and realized about family and they will have a baby and that will permanently changed their views about relationship and family.
3. Lily and Marshal still in love with each other
4. Last scene should be their final time together at the bar with their partners sharing the beauty of family and friendship and they will have a final toast and get drunk until 10 pm only because they already have a different life and every big events they still get together. This should be the ending. Character development + Life lessons + Happy Ending. Just like the ending of Big Bang Theory

Eh I would've loved this the first time around, now I would find it boring. The actual finale is realistic and quite somber but it works well. People drift apart and don't have time to meet up at a bar every night. They will never forget the memories but it's impossible to be there for every big moment. It sucks but I like that they showed us an ending of a show how people accept moving forward while still trying their best to be there for each other.
BottomFragger I agree with most of what you say. I like how the show kept realistic. It showed show people drift apart and how life gets in the way. However I believe the way they should’ve ended it was with the mother still dying but without Ted going after Robin, kind of like in the alternative ending
Dude...Not everyone need a child for an beautiful life with his partner. And Robin never wants to have a child, so they can be together without one.

No, it isnt, this isnt filmed in front of a live studio audience like the big bang theory. they do the conplete episode and show it to the studio audience afterwords and edit the laughs into the episode afterwords, its hard to film with a live audience because of the many screen changes due to flashbacks and scenes from further episodes

the ending made me love the show even more. Just like in real life, you can meet several people you truly love and considerate as soulmate. As we grow up, we all change and so can the type of person we want to share our life with. HYMYM is just awesomeeee to teach us this
