Rob Warsaw was razed to the ground in 1944 after the fall of the Warsaw Uprising on Himmler's orders, what you are watching at 7:30 is during the occupation before the uprising

    Rob,
In 1940, when this German propaganda film was made, Warsaw was not yet very much destroyed. Yes, there were air raids in September 1939, but most of the city was devastated during the Warsaw Uprising and its fall in 1944. Then Hitler was angry that the Poles tried to retake their capital before the Soviet Red Army entered Warsaw. The Russians stopped their offensive and were already standing on the other bank of the Vistula River from the beginning of summer, and the Warsaw Uprising began on August 1st. Hitler ordered the complete destruction of the city so that no one would build a city on this site again. In two months of the uprising, approximately 200,000 people died. civilians, was displaced, some were taken to slave labor deep inside Germany, some were sent to concentration camps and to work, others escaped. Under the Geneva Conventions, the insurgents were sent to prisoner of war camps unil the end of war.

This is the beginning of the war, Warsaw was hit hardest by the uprising in 1944 and at the end of the war, when the Germans were retreating, they planted explosives and blew up building after building. See photos of what the city looked like at the end of the war, 90% destroyed.

we have to remember, that in 1940 the most damage to Warsaw hasn't been done yet!
IIRC most damage was dealt in response to Warsaw Uprising in 1944 (needlessly, it was meant as a punishment I guess), and then the fatal blows when Soviet were ready to takeover the city. In 1945 it was ruins. Communists delegated by Soviets to rule the country were determined to move the capital to Łódź which was mostly saved from devastation. Only Stalin himself give them order to restore capital in Warsaw. He had some strategic vision, like Poland was meant to resemble the real independent one to fool some poles and the west, while still maintaining maximum of power.

What strikes me is that you have been in Warsaw and yet it seems you have not seen it! There are many pictures around Warsaw showing the city in rubble, totally flattened after Nazi's "final solution", and how it was rebuilt from ground. Next time you are in Warsaw, I would suggest you visit Polin Museum - it will raise hair on your back.

You must understand that the Nazis occupied Warsaw for over five years. Although there was some destruction in 1939, most of it came first in 1943 (liquidation of the Ghetto and its Uprising) and then in 1944 (after the Warsaw Uprising). Yes, there were two uprisings in Warsaw alone during World War II, but they were unable to coordinate for many reasons. By early 1945 Warsaw was a sea of ruins (watch 'Warsaw - a city of ruins' for aerial pictures of the destruction).
And when it comes to people on the streets: they had to eat. Working at home was not an option for most and they could not order their food delivered. They risked their lives to provide for their families. Some of them had no choice at all, as they were forced to work for Germans or be executed.

Szczecin is the regained lands, brave Poles from all over Poland left everything and went "for a new life".here.. that's what my grandmother did (she's from Krakow). ), and my grandfather( from the Toruń area.)...they met in this city and started a family.... however, im and will always be a "Szczecinianka"..Szczecin doesnt have a main square (although it has many beautiful monuments)just like all polish cities, that's why it's so special, because it's different😀....from all of them....💜💙

There were fewer people on the streets, but people still had to eat, so they had to work and move around as much as possible. It looks like the beginning of an occupation - you can see people with armbands walking normally on the streets. Later, Jews were either moved to ghettos or went into hiding. Roundups and executions on the streets also became more frequent.

What Germans would've done with those territories...? It's a really good question, particularly so in the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. As for Russia, any territorial gains they might, by some absolute miracle keep, they'll let go to waste, just as they have with most of what is...modern ("modern" being used here as loosly as humanly possible) state of Russia.

This is when Polish people stopped smiling in the street. Compare the clips from before and after occupation. The smiles and smirks of the German soldiers originate in this wonderful sense of being an "uber-mensch". On the tram there was a plate which says "for Germans only" (I'm terribly sorry but they failed to write it correctly "for nazis only"). There existed a law that if a German wearing a uniform walked the pavement, a Pole had to give way , step off the pavement. (This made me realise that when Polish people walk as if they don't see you it might be the effect of this humiliating experience passed on other generations...)
The footage with a young deer might have been taken in Warsaw zoo where they hunted animals for fun.
On how people kept being active: you have to act to survive especially with dramatic plummet in economy. Schools only remained for the purpose of basic education. A 13-years-old would be sent to stand for half a day each day in a queue to get a loaf of sourbread. The other half of the day could be consummed by producing and selling cigarettes in the street.
I love all the people but those poor bastards put a lot of effort to instill hatred in their victims.

I see you have a Ukrainian flag as your avatar. You probably don't know this, but during the Warsaw Uprising there were also Ukrainian volunteer legions that together with the Germans murdered Polish civilians. Read about the murders in the Warsaw district of Wola. The Ukrainians were very eager to murder Poles and often used similar methods of murder as in Volhynia.

I would like to comment on the fact that there are still a lot of people on the streets during the occupation. Yes, people could be moved, but only until 10 p.m. The second thing is the taking over of apartments, houses. When people were arrested and sent to extermination camps, their apartments were immediately occupied. for example, Germans or people who collaborated with the Germans, it was done in such a way as to systematically populate Poland with Germans and expel Poles from their country. It often happened that a Pole had a German woman or a well-fed German as a neighbor, and next to him lived a Polish family begging for bread on the street. There were places in the trams designated only for Germans. That's why there were people on the streets, but most of them were Germans.

    See, this, right here.
You watch a material about the occupation of Poland, and the first thing you think of? _Jews._
Not the Polish professors that were arrested during Sonderaktion Krakau.
Not the de-nationalization efforts, aimed at eliminating Polish culture and history.
Or the fact that Auschwitz was initially opened for the _Polish_ political prisoners.
This just proves how successful the post-war propaganda was.
Also, it's kind of funny how you are sickened by how the Germans are smiling - whereas to us, that's just a matter of course.
