Everytime I watch your vlogs, they just make me smile. The courtesy and kindness your family treats each other with is amazing. You are wonderful parents as well as a wonderful couple.
Routine...I work a full time job then work the land outside of my job. When my alarm goes off at 5am, I go outside and water everything. It wakes me up faster, making me more alert for my day.
Brother, you asked about routine. I've been in a wheelchair for a little over 8 years. So, I am thankful each morning that I'm able to get up out of bed. Make my bed and get redy to do something. I have a small garden of tomatoes, peppers and basil. Because of my condition, I am slow. I've been watching several homesteaders that raise chickens and use chicken tractors. I've already started the tractor that will house about 16 to 20 laying hens and a rooster. I could go on but, needless to say I'll need more of a routine than I already have. I am an organizer but my condition had influenced me to back off. I'm now ready to do more because of already have a small routine. I believe a routine encourages a bigger routine. If planned well, it can be a success which cultivates encouragement. Thanks for asking bro. Looking forward to reading what others say about having a routine. ☝🙏💪👉...

Happy to say my 'routine' hasn't changed much, except for what the seasons allow. Feeding animals, cleaning the barn, working in the garden (weeding, planting, watering), walking the property to check on fencing - keeps me busy and active outside as much as possible. Your milking goat is looking so good, I'm glad you are enjoying her. Enjoy your time working with Jason and Lorraine - it's nice to see good people get together to help out.

Thanks, Mike, for showing us what to look for when the electric net fencing is grounding out! We are new to our elec net fencing and were very frustrated when we couldn't figure out why it wasn't working properly.

Check out the channel "Nature's Always Right." It's a little more instructional and lighter on the vlog side of things. Also, MIke grows things from seed to transplant in the green house and I think that ups the yields from the seeds over sowing in the ground.

My routine consists of getting up at five am making lunch for the hubby and packing water along with the ice that I make in a machine and his coffee...starting his truck with a remote button and seeing him off to work.....I’m thankful I can retire at home and take care of everything so this is my appreciation to him going out everyday.
Next I grab my coffee and relax a bit watching my favorite You Tuber, your family, and a few others......then it’s out to the garden and flower beds by 7:30. Mowing eight of thirty one acres and at two making a homemade dinner . When he gets home we always go out and sit at the fire ring and spend time relaxing and talking and being thankful for all that we share together.....he’s in pain 24/7 from a broken neck and surgery years ago, carpal tunnel in both hands and degenerative disc disease yet he goes out and builds log homes to earn a living.
I would homestead in a heartbeat but he’s a worker and feels more secure with a pay check each week.i keep trying to convince him we could do it and he could have his building furniture I designed and his furniture repair in his wood shop barn but again it will take some more convincing.......
You’re in my prayers hoping you acquire the land you need to expand......so many have money they waste making their properties fancy with the latest this and that’s when they could help a fellow homesteader, I wish I was in a financial position to help in your dream.....🌻😎I just was mentioning to my hub that if I knew of someone who needed pasture I’d offer them ours for their animals to help them along....but we don’t.....my family isn’t into the farm life and animals....

I got this idea from my Uncle. The night before I go to bed, I make a list of what has to be done tomorrow. I do the job and get tea, rest a little and on to the next chore. I find that if I reward myself with tea and a short rest I do better. It is like I am rewarding me.

I have noticed a few negative comments today and I am sorry for that. I harvest my garden and my own chickens for my family and its skills everyone should know. I appreciate that you do this and you stand by your values. You guys are a wonderful informative family that I enjoy watching. You show the work required to work a functioning farm/homestead. Thank you for all the info you show us. I hope you guys have some elderberries for the upcoming cold and flu season.
Negative comments are the nature of the beast on UA-cam. I wish Mike would just ignore them instead of bringing them up in later videos.
Hazel is looking better, her coat is looking much better and is shiny now whereas before when you first got them it was quite rough and dull looking. Keep up the great work with them!
Routine is very important for a good start to your day. I check all my plants and water them first thing in the morning. 2nd morning run is harvesting any veggies for breakfast and/or lunch.
What a rich life for your children! I wish I had of had that kind of childhood! Thy're so fortunate!

I sure need routine, especially in the morning to get going into the day. It grounds me. I love the goats. Your meat birds have grown so fast.. Selah really can play the piano well. Micah is a bigger help than one may expect. He gets focused. 😺💖
The so called New Normal has been my normal/routine everyday for a few years. Setting a routine can be a challenge and it really takes consistency and desire. I had a routine when the children were in school...up by a certain time everyday, walk my granddaughter to the bus stop, get my daily walk/jog in after the bus left and so on. Now that has changed because I no longer had to get up that early anymore and then we were stuck in the house, so I couldn't get my exercise on. Things are beginning to b more relaxed, so I've been trying to get some walks in every other day or so, but getting back into a routine can b a struggle. Make it fun and include the family so everyone is on the same page...makes things smoother. The goats r loving their new routine and Hazel is starting to fill out, so keep up the great work.

My routine is always changing.
I go to work every morning, and I work my 8hr shift. If I have errands in town I get them done before I come home. I live 8 miles from town. When I get home I water all chickens ducks and pigs. Feed everyone I have 50 meat chickens and I have 22 turkeys 80 chickens and about 23 ducks and 5 grown pigs and about 14 piglets. Then when it's all done its time for dinner and bedtime. Wake up and do it again.
Hello from TN! We agree, routine is important. We have been off of our routine this whole weekend! We are refurbishing our POND! We had to drain our pond because of water lilies. I'm so excited about this project. I'm excited for you, with the goats! I really want goats. The thing that worries me is the parasites that they get. I worry that I won't be able to keep them healthy!

Looked like a Carolina Wren. I had one nest in my kitchen window box and we had to tape paper over the window so she wouldn't freak when I washed dishes. 😂

We are scheduled down to meals, showers, cleaning chores etc. We try to be organized so when chaos happens we have head room to adjust without going crazy.

I used to have French Alpines. Nothing like a goat which is like a big dog, wiggling their tail & romping about but with a deadly weapon built into their heads. LOL. Love that free food just from trimming trees and managing their growth. They are good brush eaters too. Extra help is always great. Sometimes they help create some order we might not ordinarily see. I have premier1 fencing in my small backyard to keep dachshunds from getting to my hens. I just lay it out stretched out and then gather it up like you did. It's the only way I can handle it now. Premiere1 has amazing fencing.
Mike, here's a thought for ya: Perhaps you could build a simple two sided ramp from scrap wood on the homestead, held together with a couple hinges in the middle. With a ramp, the goats wouldn't have to be lifted (i.e. back OUCH), and family members other than you could lead the goats up and down the ramp and lead where their routine called them each day. When not in use, the ramp could be left on the side of the fence where it will be needed next. (Can't have the Fit Farmer out of commission doing what a ramp can do). : )
I am so glad that you did this video and touched on some of the things to check with the net fencing, so thank you, thank you. I have never used it before and had been going back and forth on getting some of the poultry fencing for my chickens, goats and ducks but held off because of the cost. However this weekend I got a heck of a deal and bought 3 rolls (164ft each) for about 2/3 the cost of a single roll of fence one roll was used quite a bit and needs a few repairs but the others were used but once and have been inside and are like new. I live in iowa and premier1 is about 50 mins from my house so going today to pick up a fencer. I have been kind of amazed how many iowa businesses show up on homesteading channels from all over the country.
glad my family is not the only ones to get a bird in the house. we had an eastern screech owl get stuck in our fireplace a couple years ago.

Oh man 2 weeks the home fried chicken, it is the only way to go. My grandfather raised meat goats. They are very tasty, also we tanned the hides , made gloves and wallets from the leather. Goats are great as they will eat just about anything. Those small trees and limbs also can be used in the garden for tomato stakes and for pole beans to grow on.
My routine is staying feed with healthy spiritually food daily. This helps me make sense of all that's happened and cope with what I need to do Matt 4:4. I enjoy seeing your whole family working hard together every one's involve.
The vegetation trim from foot to head level is really clearing he brush area. Goats are enjoying the varied diet. Love how you’ve thought of being custodian to provide fresh shoots for 2021 onwards. Yup it is constant work but you get to see the impact of you labours!
Great to hear Both you and Lacie are helping each other out during the CCC processing as it certainly makes for a fun day and it will be nice to socialise too. Ladies herbal concoctions look great too.

Hi guys, just wanted to say that you can wean that buckling ( Basil?) any time now. He doesn't need it anymore and you'll get a whole lot more milk :-)
Instead of a gate you could build steps. We have ranchers around here who allow fishing access as long as their cattle isn't in the area, so they have metal steps that go over the fence, up one side down the other, and they just tip them back when that area is not available. You could use the same concept for your goats, just tip the steps back away from the fence when your done getting them out or putting them in. My routine is a mess, but I'm working on it, it will hopefully straighten out after I'm done moving.
Maybe he can build a portable ramp pretty easily and then just pull it away when done? I guess he would need 2 one for each side of the fence....
BTW, you know he always asks questions just to get everyone to comment because comments help the algorithm, right?
I liked the camera angle on the 'grounding' out instances, some people do need to SEE it to duplicate it and it made me wonder whether you were wearing a 'Body Cam', lol! The information about the 'Cherry' trees, I don't have GOATS but for those who do, in my humble opinion, this was good information! Good video!
Well first thing in the morning I water my fruit plants then I turn the goats out from the barn feed the chickens turn on the water fall for the koi fish then mow some grass for the hens .
I did see a man that raises cattle, and sheep and made a rack you can roll out the fencing.. His name I think is Greg Judy and Justin Rhodes went to his place to get sheep i think.. the man is a wealth of info about grasses and pasture maintenance and rotating herds etc.. I dont know exactly what video it is that i saw his fencing storage and roll up machine..youll have to check it out

you should get a chuckle out of this. Upon waking everyday I set timers/alarms on Alexa for the day to make sure my routine is running on schedule. Goats love routine, because I do goat chores at the same time everyday they let me know if I am running late because I have got lost daydreaming or working in the garden.

I am trying to figure out a good routine to stick to, my son and I recent got out sleep routine out of wack and been needing to get it back to more normal schedule as well as a time to exercise again lol, just being mindful of what time it is later in the day and what I am spending my time on has been helping 😊

Selah's piano playing is improving. It is nice to hear her play. I used to play piano and would like to suggest to either get a higher chair or lower the keyboard. Your elbows should be at a 90 degree angle making your arms level with the keyboard.instead of reaching up to the keyboard. Looking forward to hearing a full song played by you while your Dad is filming the homestead!

My life is mostly back to normal. I tried to go to a bank yesterday though and that was a reminder about the bs. Then I was waiting for the bus (live in Queens NYC) and some lady came up and told me I should have my mask on and called her a Karen and told her to go away. There might have been some F bombs in there too. 😂😛😂😛😂😛😂

I’m really glad that you guys decided to get goats because they will clean up and clear out for you like nobody’s business. Next you need to get pigs to do the same thing in different areas and in a few months year you can slaughter them for meat. You will be able to rotate your animals and benefit from each area for your gardens.

I an trying to get in a routine of getting up at sunrise with an alarm. Take supplements eat breakfast read scriptures then feed birds and start working in the garden. Our garden does not look to good right now. I water with sprinkler and by hand both and it still looks like a drought, with big cracks in the grown. I probably could loose my house key in it lol.
