HUMA Committee Motion: Safeguard the Canada Disability Benefit from any Potential Clawbacks

Today I brought forth the following motion in HUMA Committee that was adopted with unanimous consent.
In the opinion of the committee, the government should safeguard the Canada Disability Benefit from any potential clawbacks and engage in comprehensive consultations with the disability community to ensure the effective implementation of the Canada Disability Benefit by:
(i) ensuring that the Canada Disability Benefit is adequate to lift people living with disabilities out of poverty,
(ii) ensuring that the Canada Disability Benefit is accessible through the reconsideration of the Disability Tax Credit as a barrier to access, and establishing a more equitable and accessible enrolment method,
(iii) acknowledging the multitude of unseen expenses associated with living with a disability, which exacerbates financial strain, particularly amidst escalating costs of living and inflation crises,
(iv) recognizing the adverse impact of benefit entitlement reductions as families earn higher taxable incomes, perpetuating cycles of poverty among lower-income households,
(v) collaborating with provinces and territories to fortify support systems for individuals with disabilities, thereby fostering inclusive and supportive communities across the country;
And the Committee report this to the House.

Thank you for doing what we can't do.
I feel any other group of people would never have to beg and wait YEARS for this to happen.
As somebody with a disability, who can't access any disability benefits, tax credits, OR accommodations because I don't have a primary care physician, I have this bittersweet feeling. It's good that the government is working on ways to keep disability from being a barrier to escaping poverty, but for many and more each day, even getting diagnosed or having the paperwork filed is a dream.

When’s money happening we are broke now !
And when the PC was in power they cut our checks $400 when they took power years ago with Mike Harrison
We need to get the disability benefits through the CRA just like we do our climate change our GST and are Trillium checks because we benefit that money we do not get deducted that money but if it goes on our checks then we are taxed or deducted dollar-for-dollar but if it goes through the CRA that way we will benefit anybody on ODSP
And the PC even put the hospitals on standby because I know that cuz my sister had a broken arm and I took her 12 hours to get her arm fixed it was because of the PC
They will vote with the liberals on this budget if only to solidify Singh,'s pension. The talk big about trying to do the right thing but in the end they will not take that final step and vote these liberals out

Wow. I'm so excited seeing Kathy been mentioned here also. Didn’t know she has been good to other people too, this is wonderful.
I have the DTC but know how hard it was to qualify and that it should not be the only way to qualify. Happy I do, but sad for those who wont because of the barriers. The fact we havent got an answer on clawbacks from provinces yet, a year after royal ascent is telling. I dont get provincial benefits because i am paid long term disability ($1200/m) through Canada Life insurance via a UFCW union/Maple Leaf foods contract and premiums i paid while I could still work. I know for a FACT, based on how i'm treated and have to continualy jump through hoops for them, that given the chance, Canada Life will 100% claw it back if they arent prevented. More $$ for the billionaire shareholders. THANK YOU Minister Zarillo and all the great folks fighting for us.
