I wish there were more dog friendly trails in other national parks
I totally agree. However, a lot of the non-dog-friendliness is to protect both the animals of the park, and dogs. Also, whenever people do bring dogs places, many do not clean up after them, and besides being gross, it can spread disease to native animals. Many others let them off-leash in on-leash areas. Basically, many ruin it for the rest of the responsible handlers. But I really do wish that there were more dog-friendly national parks!

The other half is wheelchair bound and they told her she could take her SD with her on the cave tour, using the elevator, and he would need to step through the foot wash on the way out too just like everyone else.
Interesting! I would be a bit nervous about whatever chemical they were using. Did you just wash the dog's feet off after?
@@DoggyU We haven't gone yet, the trip was initially planned for last Spring, but with the ongoing "health situation" it keeps getting pushed back. The other half is extremely high risk. It's frustrating; when we planned the trip the kids were still kids, now one is a technical adult and the other will be soon and that changes a lot of what we had planned for them to do together at some of our destinations.

@@DoggyU Life is what it is. We'll see what happens. If it ends up being just the two of us and Pup making the trip we'll be able to do other things so it's not a loss to us, just the kids. Thanks!

Have you been to Acadia National Park before? I read that they're dog friendly for parts of the park

Are service dogs allowed in the cavern?
Service dogs are allowed in the cavern but are probably not appropriate for some of the tours that include scrambles and splunking. There are also obviously no relief areas in the cave system. I think there is a brief clip of one of the tours where there's only about 12-18 inches of passageway at dog level, which would be very challenging for larger dogs. There are also points where they completely turn off all the lights. I would consider whether or not your specific tour is the right environment for your particular dog, and make a decision from there.
