I manage airbnb's and so I'm constantly doing laundry. I've needed a table to fold on and this is going to be perfect while also being able to store supplies underneath! The only change I'm making is to put some type of soft material on the top to help keep the sheets clean.
I found your channel recently when searching for videos on how to build these tote storage solutions. I saw one on Facebook that gave me an idea, and this video is similar to the idea. I had thought to have a unit that is 4 wide, and 4 tall on one column only. The other 3 columns are 2 totes tall, with a workbench top, and a frame mounted on the back of the top where pegboard could be secured. I think something like this would work perfect for the space. I have to utilize. Loving the videos! As someone with no woodworking skills, I'm learning a lot! Thanks for the tutorials!
All materials needed for this build can be found HERE or linked in video description: creatorsold.io/lowes-companies-inc/byotools/mobile-work-table-with-12-storage-totes-material-l
Should have some kind of gate lock to hold the halves together when you close them together. Looks like it might spread a little if you have a big project going
Only issue I see is there isn't a way to immobilize the work station. That might be an issue depending on what you're using the platform to do. Locking casters might have been a better choice
This system is big and heavy enough that it has so much inertia to move it that I’m not persuaded that’s nearly the practical problem you think it is. When the table and stuff on it takes more effort than you weigh to move around, why worry about tools you can carry around causing it to move as you use it on top of a work surface designed to be sacrificial?
I use the same totes & have been looking for ways to store them. And I have been thinking about building a new workbench. Have wondered if I can incorporate the 2 in to 1 build. Your plan fits the bill. As long as your tote size is the same as what I have. Thanks for the build!
Amazing to hear and plans are now available to if interested. Were are you purchasing your totes from? This system should fit many different 27 gal totes based on where you purchase the totes from.
@@BYOToolsAnd I purchased the plans today! My concern as I try to decide whether to build 1 table or do the 2 is my space is in our 2 car garage. As is the case with most garage floors, mine slopes down slightly towards the garage door. I wonder if that slope will create stress on the hinges when the table is “open”. My wife’s car is normally parked inside the garage. When the table is open, one end will be near the door & the other table at the other end. One table slightly higher than the other.
Just a suggestion to save money: You might want to use recycled pallet wood for the cross members, not the structural 4 x 4. This will take a little more work/elbow grease, but save a little money and keep out of the landfill.
What size bit would you recommend for drilling the pilot holes? Several sources online suggest a 7/64 bit for a #9 deck screw, but it looks like you're using a much larger bit in comparison. Thanks!
Hmmm. I like the overall design, but I'm wondering if there is a way to maximize the vertical space enough to get THREE totes vertically and still have a decent work table height? I measured the height of my big 27 gallon totes (black/yellow) at about 15.25 inches. So if you can use aluminum 'L' brackets to support them, you might be able to do it. You WOULDN'T be able to use horizontal 4x4 crossmembers though - substituting 2x4's laid flat and half-lapped.
I normally never watch channels or videos with voiceover as I feel there’s too much of a disconnect. However, your channel is the complete opposite very well done and you now have a new subscriber.
Truly appriciate the support John. My passion is helping others learn how to build and I hope that my voiceover helps the process of learning. Thanks so much for watching and keep up the great work on your channel as well.
Looks like the Atlas 46 JourneyMESH Chest Rig with Cargo Pockets, or another from that company. Found it linked on BYOT's website. (I had the same thought and went searching)
Are you talking about these screws? If so, these are the ones I used on this build and they should only be around $60 for a set of 100: creatoriq.cc/3CZkCEQ Thanks for the all the support Paul. Truly appreciated and let me know if something isn't clear that I can help with.
@@paulcrutchfield8185 Thanks for the heads up Paul. I'll make that correction. In the past garage storage builds I used the Headlock screws but in this video I used the GRK's. As for the 3" screws they are listed in the material breakdown but here they are just incase: creatoriq.cc/4gaiuZm
@@BYOToolsYou are correct. Our Lowes has them 100 ct for $59.98. I was putting together my materials list today to get an idea of the total cost. I’m at $323.96 if I use the 4x4’s (which I really like BTW!). If I substitute 2x4’s (18 instead of the 9 4x4’s, I come in at $238.57. Everything is priced at Lowes except the 3/4 in plywood. I can get a much better product-cabinet grade- at a local lumber store for $45.00. Thx for the planes. Now I just hope my measurements on my containers are correct. Slight adjustment in the container space but not much. I just wish I could get the height to match my job site table saw so I could use the workbench for an outfeed table about a 6” differential. And I really want to max out the container storage space.
I like your designs and seems like a great way to store the totes my only concern is the weight of the totes just being held up by their edges on the 2x2 / 2x4. Have you had any issues with heavier totes breaking or bending badly on their edges?

Dude, this is amazing! What a great system and it looks easy for the DIYer.
Thanks so much for watching and all the support Mitch. Hope your doing well buddy.

That self / table is really good idea.... maybe I'll do something similar to my carage. Thanks for sharing.
Love hearing that. Thanks so much for watching and send me a picture if you build it.
Excellent explanation and function 🎈

Awesome design. Very useful.
Great to hear Mike. Thanks so much for watching.
I LOVE the clamshell idea.....workbench by default...but HUGE workspace when needed for larger projects! I may just give this one a try!
This is great!
Thanks so much for all the support.
Great idea and very useful.
My thoughts exactly. Thanks for always supporting the channel.
Great idea...I'm gonna make it and tweak the design.
I'm digging this 👍

Immobilize with castors with wheel locks.

@ Sams Club. I think same brand that Lowes carries.

Dope!!
This is good stuff.

Looks like a great design. Can you tell me the finished height with wheels? Thank you.
Nice especially the hinge functionally. How to you plan to track what is the totes?
Great question and I have a solution that I plan to incorporate soon with a QR code labeling system. Hope that helps a bit :)
Do you have plans for a smaller clamshell?

dumb question: what is the name of those rollers you have for the mitre outfeed/side areas? do they fit into a standard t-track?
That's a great concept. However, once all those bins are full, that table is never being moved again.
I built heavy tables with casters and loaded them up with stuff and still moved them easily, at least 300 maybe 400 lb

The product links for this video don’t match materials listed on the plan. Do I really need 96 6” screws @$140 just one example

Page 7 of the plan shows 6” headlock screws #96. 2-1/2” screws #80. The 3” screws are not listed. In the video I only see using about 32 6”screws
