    Few more thoughts (I'll add as I think about them):
    1) Thermocoil vs. Boilers. There's obviously advantages to boilers but the best thing about a thermocoil is that it's pretty much instant.
    2) It's serviceable. That's a major plus, especially the pump which is easily swapable and cheap.
    3) This machine was updated to be able to change the brew temperature. (Same model, same everything, they just added this added functionality)

      Thanks so much, machine still working like a champ. I'm actually quite surprised nothing broke since I made that video.
      Overall I think it's still probably the best value in the industry and I make 1 or 2 lattes a day.

    I'm happy to say that your criticisms of this machine were really minor ones. I upgraded from the Cafe Roma and was afraid you were gonna say this machine sucks or something along those lines. So far I'm glad I upgraded. For the price point I think it's great. I looked into some other machines but can't afford the 2000 dollar ones. I chuckled a little at your foam work because that was exactly what I got the first time as well. Good review.

      @@ureviewsI watched this today and way jumped the gun, bc I'd mixed a descaling solution for the water tank -- and then read that a blinking cleaning light meant the machine wasn't ready to descale. But your video was so cool and I have the hardest time reading the water levels in the tank, and getting that latch handle to cooperate! So I loved your preliminary critique. Maybe you aren't there because this video is 5 years old. But -- thank you if this finds you. ps after cleaning and descaling there is definitely less clinking and shuddering going on. And I used the steam attachment for the first time. I'd forgotten to immerse it, and so the hissing and splattering had put me off

    • @ureviews

      I asked brevile why they have it, they said it's so the coffee doesn't lose it's heat, so if you pre warm the portal filter it's not needed , that being said to remove it, you unscrew the bottom spout and then it's easy to just pop it out.

    Thanks - very useful video. I'm struggling to get the pressure up - can you recommend the optimum grind of the beans?

    • @ureviews
      @ureviews  6 років тому +1

      When you grind if you grab some and squeeze it, it should clump up. If it doesn't then it's not fine enough.

      Also, to test if the machine is not defective use the pressurized baskets if it gets to pressure in those, then there's no reason other than the grind size

    • @ureviews
      @ureviews  3 роки тому

      If your GFCI is tripping that means there is some thing that is hitting ground. GFCI breaker trips when the positive side doesn't match the current on the neutral side.
      It's also possible you have a bad GFCI.... Try a different outlet.

I'm not too picky, but just bought a Breville Infuser and was wondering if I needed to upgrade the grinder too. I ask because I'm getting the Sette 270wi soon and from what I hear, the Infuser chokes on the finer espresso settings when you're dialing in the grinder, which causes the pull to be a bit more on the watery side, and with less crema.
    Do you think that replacing the pump to increase the pressure would help to get that extra richness and texture on the extraction?

    • @ureviews
      @ureviews  4 роки тому

      I don't think you'll get more pressure. (Unless your current one is defective)

      @@ureviews Follow-up point of clarification here, if you don't mind. What is the difference then between the 2/1 min vs. the 1/1.5 min?

    • @ureviews
      @ureviews  4 роки тому

      First number I believe is how long it can work continuously and the 2nd is how long it needs to rest before it can run the first number again.

    • @slvrbach
      @slvrbach 4 роки тому

      So if I understand this correctly, the only real reason to get the 1/1.5 min over the 2/1 min is the price? And the assumption here too is that one would never run the pump for longer than a minute continuously, right?
      But couldn't it take longer than a minute when you're steaming milk?

      Right, but since these are so cheap. I wouldn't worry about it that much. My 2nd pump is now on it's 5th or 6th year. Maybe more actually.

      You probably aren't grinding your coffee fine enough to allow pressure to build. Unfortunately, you will have to spend at least another $100 or more to get a grinder that can get that level of fineness. Start also by using the double walled filter included. This will help build some pressure.

    • @ureviews
      @ureviews  6 років тому

      it's not the grinding. The pre Infusion time on these is a tad too long. And P.S i have a "pro" level grinder, I just didn't use it for the video.

      ureviews so I’ve seen/heard a lot of comments about needing a good grinder for espresso, and that the Capresso Infinity isn’t meant for making espresso in non-pressurized baskets. I have the Capresso Infinity and really like it, but currently only use it with a pressurized basket (Delonghi Dedica). Is it suitable for making espresso in a machine like the Breville Infuser or Duo Temp Pro? Or any machine with non-pressurized baskets? If not, could you explain why? Doesn’t grind fine enough? Inconsistent? Etc. Thinking of upgrading to a better espresso machine and wonder if I need a better grinder as well.

    Thank you very much for this video. It answered a lot of my questions. I started to be very confused what espresso machine should I buy because I have read some complains about this model. Lot of "coffee geeks" told me Breville (or Catler, Sage, Solis, Bork ...) never more. The most of them had bad experience with the PUMP. They said the best I can buy is Gaggia Classic, Rancillio Silvia or Lelit PL 41 EM (or TEM because it has PID). I realy dont understand why those machines are soooo better if they use same type of pump. Other components also seem to be same if I focusing just for brewing, except portafillters size, of course. The steaming is not so important for me, so I dont care boiler vs thermocoil. I like Catler ES 8011 SE (rebranded model, same as Breville BES840XL (the Infuser)) so much and I almost bought it. but I still have the doubts about the quality and durability of the machine. You use it for 3 years and it is still working though :D. Only thing you had to replace was the pump. Here in Europe, Catler comes with 3-years warranty. It might be the good reason to buy it. What do you think?
    Got one more question: what about the pre-infusion time? In the instruction manual, there is information about pre- infusion "programing" but you have said you dont like the impossibility to set the infusion time because machine is not measuring the time but the volume (if I understand it right). So the question is: If I use always the same coffee and the same grinder settings, do I have the same result of brewed shot? If yes, can I set pre-infussion time and "volume" of shot manually (it can be done according the instruction) and brew always the same shots?
    Thank you.

    • @ureviews
      @ureviews  7 років тому

      There is no way to set the preinfusion time (or volume) it's pre set no matter what. UNLESS you do a complete manual extraction which is by long pressing on one of the brewing buttons and releasing when your ok with the preinfusion and then it continues in full pressure. Did that answer your question?
      And yes it seems weird to me the whole pump situation. Regardless, now you know they are all pretty cheap to replace (and easy depending on the way they hooked the pump)

    • @branislavobert4758
      @branislavobert4758 7 років тому

      There's no other machine in this price range that: 1) Has PID 2) Thermocoil 3) Real steam wand 4) Design

      Finaly I found one issue of the breville espresso machines. They all have plastic insert collar. It´s the part where the portafilter is putted in and tightened up (in a grouphead). It is a big dissappointment for me. Why they use plastic insted of metall? I just dont get it.

    What I dislike about this model is that its top warming plate is of plastic.
    However, the most important feature of this machine shall be the pressure gauge and pre-infusing, it’s a Breville Barista Express, minus a grinder.
    Breville really plan their product lineup covering all angles.
    I moved from bes800 with 51mm filter basket, and being experienced with a dual boiler before, I think Infuser and Express really hit the sweet spot for home brewers.

    Hello,
    i'm using this machine for a 4 month now. In Europe the company call it Catler ES8011SE. There is one thing that i really, really don't like on that machine. Eco-mode. You need to heat up the machine for a good shot, so why the h*ll the machine turns off after circa 30mins (circa 15min it goes to standby mode with no heating up the brew group). That's ridiculous. Is that the same in the US version?

    • @ureviews
      @ureviews  6 років тому +1

      This model goes into standby mode first (element still kept hot) then it shuts it down. To quickly warm the Brew head I just run a blank shot to a cup. Warm up the cup the head and the portafilter in one step.

    • @tomasjokay4019
      @tomasjokay4019 6 років тому

      ureviews Right, i'm doing it the same way. But after one shot of hot water, the brew group is not still ready for good shot. Neither the portafilter. I'm waiting to hear up all the brew group incl. portafilter for a 20-30min ať least. After that i'm able to make a decent shot with no sourness (using the Eureka Mignon grinder) in the bottom of the mug. I'm making 25ml espresso for myself only and a cup of cappuccino or latte for my wife.

    • @ureviews
      @ureviews  6 років тому

      @tomasjokay4019 6 років тому

      Don't get me wrong i like the machine and i don't need to change it right now. But for me the proper heating up is the main factor of the good espresso machine and to make really good drink. To a timer you mentioned. I saw it on some Silvia's... the time switched plug, directly to power main. Not important to me because to have a cup of coffee in 6 o'clock in the morning... in would not give that :)

    Umm, no, the top is not made of plastic. It's a metal alloy. (It's a warming tray. If it was plastic, it would melt from the heat). I have several Brevilles, including a model very similar to yours, which I have taken apart, so I know what they're made of. I also don't quite understand what your problem is with cleaning the top. It's a sealed top, easier to clean than most.
    If reliability is an important factor, than an old Italian SBDU machine (ie. Saeco Aroma), like what they made decades ago, is going to be much more reliable than any Breville. That said, the Brevilles have a lot going for them on other factors..

    The bad parts of the maker. You dont like how the handle operates, because you say that dust, dirt or coffee grinds could end up on the lid and could end up in the water tank. I don't even want yo know what you do to end up with bits of coffee grinds not only on top of the maker but on the back of the unit? Humm, I dont know, I guess you and your espresso maker have a coffee grind fight? But wait, correct me if I'm wrong. Didn't you state that you refill the water reservoir every other time you use it? Ok, for argument sake, lets just say, in some very bazaar way you do end up with coffee grinds on the TOP and way way BACK of the unit, I'm sure you have a dishcloth in or around your sink. It would be not much more than a fraction of a millisecond very easy wipe up. So how on god's green earth would dust/dirt even have a chance on collecting on top of the lid? Unless you keep a very dirty house, you should have no worries about bust/dirt collection. The plunger style for the bottom of the water tank. That would be a concern for malfunction? Um, no not really, there is a spring that closes a rubber flap that keeps water from pouring out of the tank as you're filling up. And trust me, I assure you, it will not malfunction in any way. I have a Keurig, and the water reservoir has the same type of plunger setup. I've had my Keurig going on two years now and the plunger works just as it did when I first used the unit. The top of this maker is plastic? Big deal, so what, just don't the cat out of the box, do not spill the beans, do not tell your friends the top portion of your espresso maker is plastic! The rest is stainless.
