Hello Gill, Happy New Year 2024! Thank you for this lesson. Ness is owrhaps one of the most used suffix I know. Until this lesson was heard, I didn't pay attention to this suffix. Now it is interesting to know how often we use it. Happiness, sadness, goodness - I could go on. The woods are lovely, dark and deep, but i have promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep. Indeed, drousyness, sleepyness, wakefulness, alertness, attentiveness are key to good health and happiness. Joy be with you, dear Gill. We bathe in the brightness of the Gilli - ness in our virtual worldliness. 😊

My parents always said I was lazy, when I was actually depressed!
I'm sure there are lazy people too, but I often find that depression gets misstaken for laziness!

Dear Ma'am Gill,
This lesson on vocabulary of adding 'ness' to certain letters seem quite interesting !
Here,i think, the word 'likeness' can be equated with the word ' resemblance' to show that something is almost the same with a little difference.
Thanks to you with all my best wishes on this New Year 2024 !
Well done, Teacher Gill ! You make it very clear 😊.
Brilliant 🖤🖤🖤

Amazing english teacher. 💕
Excellent class Ms Gil
Thank a million madam
I am lazy for everyday so ıts bad situation and you are right. I am unhappy but I am doing to the this.
I'm happy to know that "goodness me" doesn't make sense logically for native speakers as well😆
Also, use "hate" as the verb, and "hatred" as the noun.
Hi, if most words ending with "y" have their suffix changed to "Iness", why doesn't that occur with the word shy? Thank you and great video
💐
Im trying to think of a word ending in 'ness'. Its very cold , here is the US , at the moment. Where i am , its 9°f. So , heres my sentence.... I went for a walk in the snow tonight and was overcome by the peacefulness of nature around me.
Im looking for a person like her to help me with english literature 📚
Hi Gill, shy doesn't change the "y" because it's a monosyllable or just that's it? Thank you :)
안녕하세요. 한 2년만에 뵙는거 같아요. 감사 합니다.
❤
I am not a native English speaker. But I’m not afraid to make and use words with affixes as long as they sound like English. Haha. I don’t care if it is in the dictionary or not (incidentally almost all would happen to be in the dictionary anyway). :)
What about wit / witness ?
Hi gill
🙂
Shyness
Hi Gill, I have a question. Why word "shy' not change letter 'y", but in the all same words letter "y" change to the letter "i" lazy -lazinees, happy - happinees ... ?
I assume it is dependent on the pronunciation of the 'y'. In the case of 'shy', the y is pronounced 'i' (eye) whereas happy is a long 'ee' sound.
I love the English language, it is a riddle!
