Janis Joplin was my babysitter when she was in high school. Her family were patients of my dad, Dr. James (Jim) Thomas. We lived in Griffing Park, a few blocks from the Joplins
@TheDaytripper, Thank you for this piece. I am born and raised in Port Arthur, Texas and except for my time in college and my time in the military as Army Artillery Officer, I have spent my entire time here and am 'Proud' to say this is my hometown!
The museum of the gulf coast is simply amazing. My wife and I found it hard to leave. And oh my Gosh! The Schooner! We went in, and de-aged about 40+ years!
I'm also from Port Arthur. TJ class of 79. I go visit friends about once a year. I always load up on good boudin to bring back home. Thanks for the video.
I'm super impressed! You made PA look great! I'm a little upset that you included The Schooner, without clarifying that it's in Nederland, not Port Arthur, but I can understand why. After all, it's right across the highway! Lol Seriously, this is an excellent video! You guys are fun to watch! Sending love from Nederland! ❤️
Its all the same. I lived in Nederland until 7th grade and then moved to Port Neches. Graduated from PNG in '77 and Lamar in '81. Except for football I always talk about them as one place, the Golden Triangle.
I just discovered your channel this morning before going to the office. I'm happy to see someone who appreciates Texas as much as I do. I'm a Texas Native and I live in Houston currently but go between here and Austin. I'm now following your channel from both of my channels. This one where I'm a blonde and the other where I have long black hair true to my heritage as a member of the Chickasaw Nation. I'm excited to see the rest of your videos to see what I can explore in Texas this year.
Aw Chet, this is one of my favs to watch since I grew up in Port Arthur and Groves...PNG grad in 73. Mom used to take us crabbing right next to the crazy Bridge City bridge. Hated driving over it in driver's ed. :) Last time I was there was after my mom passed away...sis and brother went and drove around...so sad to see so many buildings and homes in their state. Need to go back and discover some of the things we never did! Hey, did you ever eat the best spaghetti at Colichia's Italian in Port Arthur...now it's in Groves. My favorite ever! We grew up on Moma Colichia's food! And those grapes hanging from the ceiling! Those were the days!!!
sea rim state park back in the 1970s-80s was a nice place to camp. i pulled my apache pop up there , many times. they even had a museum , which was quite impressive. those dam hurricanes can ruin everything and back then it was a family fun environment and kids loved it. i really miss those times, which are just nice memories now.
You show a lot of things there my son and I know very well. We have business there. Port Partners. Sabine Pass. That giant yellow and white ship claw came with the purchase of the Port. It still works today. It takes two ships to move it. Great show. Glad to hear you from da' Port Art'ore.
Now I know why I find your channel so cool! My dad is from port Arthur and I’m from Beaumont! My nanny graduated two years before Janis from the same high school. Cajun to the core! We live in San Antonio now, Away from hurricanes living the dream 😂
My parents are from Orangefield and Orange Texas. I been though Port Arthur many times when I was a kid. I showed this video to my mom, she loved it, and that Boudain restaurant looks really good. I never thought of putting mustard on boudain but after seeing this I tried it, and it wasn't bad.
My late husband graduated from Jefferson High and "knew of" Janis Joplin during those school years. Knowing how she felt about PA - I think she would laugh her behind off knowing that the town is not only claiming her but talking about how good she was. My favorite memory of PA - going crabbing!
I just stayed down in bolivar. You should do the Crystal beach, Bolivar side since your near the area. We ate at a place called Stingaree and the food was absolutely great. And it’s got a nice bay view.
Great show...I hope you get up to Denton County at some point...If you do...Call it " Denen " drop the T..lol. Locals will love it...Site to see...Pilot Knob hill..Private ownership..But Great story about Sam Bass caves on the hill..Great BBQ...Sullivan's Old Town BBQ. Lewisville Lewisville
I beg your pardon; the flawed cause of the Confederacy. A true Southerner would never say that. It is the same as saying the Battle of the Alamo was flawed.
If Chet thinks the only cause, in the war 160 years ago, was about slavery, he needs to turn in his diploma from the University of Stupidity and get an re-education in history.
@@dice12tx let's keep the hate speech down sir. Nobody is saying the war was one dimensional. Nobody should pretend it was all about slavery. But nobody should pretend it wasn't about slavery.
Sorry to be the bearer of Facts that are uncomfortable for so many but, the War Of Northern Aggression wasn’t about Slavery. Slavery was just used as an aside to motivate more Men to the Actual cause which was centralized power in DC and Unconstitutional Federal Reach in general. We all know Slavery is wrong just as we know it’s been a part of World History as long as Mankind has been separated from God and every Race Of People have been Enslaved at one time or another and many people are still Enslaved today. Revisionist history is Wrong and is used as an attempt at dividing people based on skin color and as a means of keeping people dependent upon the tax dollars of the Working Middle Class of all skin colors. Do some Reading and I don’t mean seeking out echo chamber online material that reinforces your preferred and comfortable opinion. There are thousands and perhaps millions of Books on this subject that were written in the time of this conflict which are filled actual Government Documents that show the actual reasons for the conflict. Saying that particular conflict was about Slavery is just as big a Lie as the Lie of “our democracy”. Wake Up.
My daughter was married in Rose Hill Manor. I graduated from port Arthur College in 1965. I lived in Port Arthur after I married. I know the area well. 👍🏻👍🏻🧓🏻🇺🇸 5:33

Beautiful! From where 🙄
My grandparents lived in Port Arthur/Nederland area when I was young. I have many fond memories of visiting there on weekends and in the summer.
I do love SETX
Keep the good content coming. It's great to watch a show without propaganda or some agenda being constantly shoved in our faces.

I went all the time in the 90s. The museum was dated but we always had to go say howdy to the stuffed coyote and gator.

i'm from Port Arthur Texas and you definitely did your thing on this video🥰
Thank you so much!!
I was born at St. Mary's hospital Oct.. 6th 1960 Port Arthur TX. Same hospital Janis Joplin was born at.

Can't believe you grew up in Port Arthur. So did I! From 1960 to 1990. You've missed out on some FANTASTIC restaurants from back in the day.
Like Al's Seafood!
WOW GREAT VIDEO! Thank you for posting this video.

Spent my early years down at Crystal Beach, so I understand. Spent many a dollar at that little grocery store at the beach road entrance.
I liked your Wichita Falls episode, and now this! Great work and great episode on my hometown.
Where I’m from in south Florida is hit by hurricanes yearly.
Deerfield beach doesn’t look like *THAT*
You didn’t even mentioned PimpC and UGK. If you’re going to talk about The PA you should have included all of the greatest.
For sure! Legends.
I’m glad he didn’t mention them 🤷🏽♀️ this video was not for that.

Is the Lion's Den bar still downtown? What about the old Forecastle bar?
The schooner is in Nederland. Not port Arthur.
😂 you're such a clown. Love it😊
The Bouadian Hub has been up for a long time. Reverse Rose Parks Black's order in the front and Red Necks to the back Lol. I Love PA
That was awesome
And Beaumont has a large and very busy port.
My backyard 😊.
🤠
The Boudian Hut.....I have seen people get stabbed there.....on 3 different occasions!!!
