Honestly if I was still back in high school, I would have been OBSESSED with the dangling jewelry bits because it looks like a unique fantasy-inspired accessory that one look would immediately give people the impression that this person comes from a fairytale or celestial world, which is common in genres like Magical Girl. Like how does it not get in the way of daily activities with no irritation? Magic! But I can see how something like that would be seen as ridiculous for an impractical period piece drama with no magic.
Omg so it was the HER AGENCY that produced the dramas!!!! No wonder there is always directors willing to use her in the dramas... I mean all the dramas that she's in, it's all tailored for her and she is always the main highlight of the story... Guess her agency is going to squeeze all her influence and fame as an "idol" before it dries out. MAN how many years more do I need to see her occupy the future dramas!
Well it's not only her tbh, there are also other girls in the company who play the main characters in other dramas. But I'd say that she, alongside Xu Jiaqi/ Kiki Xu are the most popular ones. And this is not the only company who does this btw, look at Diliraba, most of her series are produced/ co-produced by her company and you can always see the same actors in them, the same with the company that made Love & Redemption. This is normal guys😂
@@Mdkdmxmcmffkckc Well I mean it's a norm in China to do this kind of thing but it's definitely an exhausting thing for me to keep seeing her with her "I'm most beautiful person in this world" kind of attitude...
@@minjilover Well, I personally enjoy most of her works, so I can't fully agree😂 luckily, the C-dramaland has a lot of different series to offer, so if you don't particularly enjoy seeing her, you can always watch other stuff✨ I come from watching kdramas, jdramas, lakorns...so in my intensive years of drama watching I've seen some really cringey thinks I can assure you, it's weird for me to like cute acting actresses (I just got passed that stage at this point) but what can I say, I enjoy her dramas, do I find some flaws? of course. I do think that in other conditions (and perhaps with another company) she could become a better actress tbh. But we'll there is time and place for everything, if I want to watch something cute and fun I'll go for her dramas, same goes for Zhao Lusi or Diliraba you know😊✨
@@minjilover yup, can't stand her. Every drama same thing, palest foundation , red lipstick and blank face without any expressions at all. I don't even watch her dramas anymore.
@@Mdkdmxmcmffkckc Just to clarify, not that I hate seeing her or something, I am not really hardcore fan of any celebrities. I myself also enjoy rom com type of dramas very much like you but maybe I have my standards which is why I can never stand seeing good stories keep getting abused by companies like this for the sake of maximizing profit/benefits... There are obviously many big agencies using their own actors/actresses for projects they are handling but that does not mean the producers make a fool out of the audiences with their shitty work every time right? There are also a lot of good actresses/actors that do their job really well even if they were in comical/cringey scenes. So I do hope that Ju Jingyi can one day wake up from her "princess setting" and do something about her career.
When I saw drama with Ju Jing Yi in it. I learn to not have expectation. She's pretty but she doesn't know how to act. She control her face expression so that she don't look ugly. She control when she cry, when she laugh, when she angry, when she got kidnap. She make sure she always look pretty. That make the story not fully express.
That's such a great explanation of why I love certain actors/actresses and am bored with others. Some have an extreme fan base for looking pretty, so they keep getting acting jobs. Still I'm not watching a drama for looks, but for feels.
Is she really that bad? I mean korean actresses had some controlled cry, where you can still feel their emotions but their face don't contort, just red eyes and nose and that perfect timing tear drop with the music. Lol
@@newaccount6414Its not to the extend of unbearable..it just that, when i watch her drama, my brain automatically set to not be so critical about it and to not have much expectations so that if one day she make a breakthrough and improve her acting, i will be happy about it, and if she remain same without improvement, i will not be disappointed. I do watch her drama though. I admit there are korean actors/actress that act like that, but I don't want to discuss about it because it's quite out of context to discuss korean actor in a video about cdrama.
@@newaccount6414 her acting is actually watchable(there are rooms to improve of course) but there are some things that annoy me when watching her. e.g. her make up
@@longballad7774 you mentioned she controld when she cries so my mind automatically went to korean actress/actor who mastered the act, beautifully too.
As much as visually she looks so pretty with her accessories, the moment you told me what her dream profession is, i panicked x'D I too was a student in product and jewelry design so i do use the workshop you were talking about and we ALWAYS wear tight or short sleeve that doesnt billow, long pants. ONLY LONG PANTS or long thick pants are the best/jeans, and hair must ALL be swept back unless ur fingre is short and doesnt hinder your vision. Best in a bun. SEEING HER DOING THE WOODWORK LIKE THIS SENT ME ON A PANIC LMAO
Same! I took an engineering course once where we extensively used the workshop and we weren't even allowed to where tight long sleeves -- only short sleeves -- bc if we use the lathe or drills with long sleeves it could catch the sleeves and apparently ppl have had their arms skinned bc the tight sleeves also peel off your skin with it.
@@eggtoast oh Lord OwO I don't know about others, even if we wore long sleeve, it must end around wrist and must be REAL SNUG on you type. It's too much of a hassle so people just goes with sleeveless or short sleeve really.
Me too. Pretty much left the series at that point, because even if we can imagine someone in her status/position would have access to these kinds of tools, even in those days people wouldn't have lots of flammable floaty catch in tools accessories and garments wafting around. Would they? Well, not for long. But I also have issues with the long floaty sleeves/draping silk shawls the lead females go near the primitive cook stoves in. I often wonder, seriously, how Chinese productions ever get fire and injury insurance cover. Not to mention the hundreds of candles in some scenes. A fire safety official's worst nightmare. Don't get me started on the starving horses. One horse, in one series, was EATING the timber off a post it had obviously been hitched to for several hours. Even in the view of the camera. Such total disregard for safety, health and life, honestly horrifies me.
To play devil’s advocate, although her aesthetics do not work on me, I can imagine some teen girls might really like her looks, and by extension, her dramas. She’s probably the biggest moneymaker for her company, largely due to her signature look (1980s Hong Kong-retro look with jet black eyebrows, wavy hair and true red lips). From her company’s perspective, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. They’re not trying to draw new fans, but simply to retain existing ones by giving them what they like.
She is boring, really, it is true she plays just one role over and over. And if only she played it convincingly - but no, she is like an automaton. And the dangling pieces are truly ridiculous.
@@Roxana-gu5zt She’s not an actress. She’s primarily an idol, and a pretty decent one if I’m honest. But dramas are where the money is, so the same look, same non-acting over and over again.
@@angelasoWA I loved her makeup when I first saw it for me I just enjoy beauty and makeup so seeing it at first was amazing. Its like modern looking but then the drama went on and it started to feel odd like it didn't blend with the drama and setting. This was for a previous drama of hers and based on the trailers I've seen its exactly the same for this drama.
Just had to say you look really pretty in that outfit! As a fellow landscape architect student, I agree with you that the woodworking scenes make you want to grab her away from any tool environment. And all those dangling bits around my face would drive me bonkers😄
as a fellow architect student, lemme be honest, even my long hair that already being tied can get in the way when making project, let alone doing wood working
AvenueX: "If the drama did turn out to be a masterpiece of storytelling after episode eight..." Let me stop you right there, it's not. In fact, I'd argue that's about when it starts going downhill, maybe a little earlier, caring even less about the writing, if possible. What even are the character motivations in this show? For 8 or 9 episodes our ML wants to get his hands on a certain object. Do you know what happens when he does? He says it's useless and wants to return it to the FL. Wow. They couldn't be bothered to work in a meaningful plot device into the story.
@@chickwit2575 it was the first drama I saw her in and I thought she did ok. Though the plot was just so so but at least I skimmed through most eps to the end. After finding out most of her dramas were the same I gave up. Especially since all her dramas were similar makeup and costume. I felt like it's not very professional nor does it help her in her acting career. Like her acting will never improve and there will never be a breakthrough from her current state. I mean she can maintain it since she's still young but once she reaches 30 viewers will criticize her even more.
I liked her in Legend of the White Snake, though I did find that she was too stiff and straight back at times. It's in character, but boy I wished she moved more animated.
I want to draw attention to one more point that Ju Jingyi is actually a stage-performer who is used as money-magnet in Chinese Chickflicks. Her main focus never goes on acting. She only cares that whether her looks are photogenic in every frame or not. That's why she completely ruined the funeral scene in Blossoms At Ruyi Pavillion where she was playing the daughter of deceased, with full makeup and bridal demeanor....on her father's funeral.
Ju Jingyi favours the gaudy look in all her dramas. She never seems to want to be taken too seriously in her profession. I guess that's her formula to success, keep yourself skinny and always look a little tacky.
She is a good actress and good model, but definitely not even an average actress. Entertainment industry is kinda weird. It's like a biology teacher is asked to do medical treatments.
She's not a really good actress but I think she can sing good. She is also pretty but too skinny. She's probably not eating healthy or eating at all. You know what that does to the body. You barely have any energy. She should just not act but do something else in the entertainment industry.
I noticed that her makeups are all the same even the modern one recently too. The modern one was hard to watch because you can see how skinny she looks in modern clothes. Just unhealthy to watch and her acting is so forced.
Im i seeing skinny shaming in the comments? Dont prescribe diseases on someone if you're not a doctor. Her size might be her normal. Don't criticize & go too far. I'm not even her fan but this is not it
Honestly I don't really know her but from her unwillingness to step out of her comfort zone not only in terms of costume/make-up but also range of facial expressions, she doesn't seem like she wants to look anything else aside from picture perfect. Unfortunately JJY gives me the impression that she's simply acting to get to look pretty and not getting prettied up for acting aka she treats the drama as her own personal MV or smth and doesn't bother with how unrealistic things look as long as she's Pretty(TM).
It really bothers me when the role requires her to disguise herself as a man because at least they can exclude the lipstick or choose a muted color if shes really scared of looking ugly without makeup, but no... she gotta wear RED lipstick
It is from the source novel, and due to CCP censorship any mention of rebirth back into her earlier self was removed from this series, hey ho! Why it was decided to have this in the series title is really odd
@@lifeisbutadreamsodreamon they should just put it as original title since the they changed so much of the stories lol. And maybe put tldr that the story based on this novel blah blah
LMAOOO she said Huan Zhu Ge Ge and I literally laughed because I literally had flashbacks of when Xiao Yanzi was being taught by Rou Mou Mou on how to be a princess and the way she walked with the handerchief waving by her side was hilarious 😂😂
I think lately its by no actors fault alot of the flaws are from the script writers/directors, people still watch the dramas and still call it good only because their favorite actor is in it regardless if theres a terrible script / story. This needs to be called out and stop giving bad dramas those 10/10's just because your favorite MLC is in it as it doesn't help the actors they deserve better scripts and execution. AvenueX your spot on! lately alot of dramas are simply not good this year has been pretty dry, luckily we have some real substance next year with titles like Joy of Live Season 2 with the original writers and directors.
Anddddd she is soooo clumsy. She always falling from the tree, the bridge, the ceiling and this male lead have to save the girl. That is so lame and annoying.
She is sweetheart that's why that drama earned, otherwise with crappy storyline, poor character build-up and weird direction; you can't expect anything to escape from a massive flop.
@@vaanshichauhan9868 maybe because it's coupled with that dangling crown thing all the time. They really did her dirty in this drama with the terrible script that isn't even remotely close to the adaptation of the novel counterpart and the same look.
I must say you’re right on point here, especially the stying, ugh. She is in the forest overnight in full makeup dangling stuff and red, red lipstick. I couldn’t get past it. It was so distracting to the story. …and as a princess, how do you sit sloughed over like that. The posture is ridiculous. So unnecessary.
Thank you for explaining that discrepancy with the title and the synopsis. I'd been wondering where the name came from if there wasn't any 2nd life storyline...
@@firebender1734 because she looks and feels and acts really fake, you do not feel any sincerety in her acting, or character or demeanor. There is no effort and it really shows through which is why a lot of people can't stomach her.
@@firebender1734 There's not really a question on their beauty but someone commented on a previous video here about a face/beauty that's not "aggressive" and is "comfortable" to look at. That must be it. I missed out or passed on a lot of dramas because of this personal issue, even if I really like someone from cast 😅
This drama is just trying to do too much and as you said is simply 'there' to serve the FL's fandom. I hope fans can stop washing the floor for her about the issue of unchanging makeup and general poor acting, i.e. her overused gestures and unwillingness to experiment with styling (including any scenes which need plain makeup) - no her head accessories IS NOT the amazing change in style her fans make it up to be, although general appreciation to the craftsmanship I guess. I just think it's so sad there clearly not a professional dedication towards her role...but what she has certainly is an unquestionable dedication to her physical image... I have turned a blind eye for all her previous dramas because realistically, she is pretty and her quirky acting was cute...but really this is only acceptable to a certain point and it only looks super cringey now.
This narrator is quite animated and articulate. However, I think this C drama is quite romantic and displayed strong bond & love between Ju Jing Yi & Joseph Zeng. They actually have great chemistry. I actually love this drama and has a good storyline. It’s a drama that’s why these things are made belief with a guard going through her window to chat with a princess just like Disney movies. All made beliefs
Not just her styling and make up and her character's over all look, Ju Jing Yi even acts the same way in all her dramas no matter what character she is portraying. Every drama I have seen her in, her character behaves the same way, as if all those different characters in all those different dramas are one and the same character. I know she is famous and has a huge fandom and all but as an actor she is very very one dimensional and seems comfortable playing the same type of characters over and over again. But apparently no one seems to mind that and her dramas seemingly do very well. I dont know. i just cant get over stagnated and mediocre acting, especially after having invested a few precious hours of my life in a drama, that I cant get back, hoping that this time around her performance and her character looks are going to be different and better. But nooooooo.......
I can’t bring myself to watch any of her dramas, the body posture, the acting…. It’s just so bad. And like a few other popular actresses, seems to be playing the same characters over and over.
A contemporary drama about a high class lady wanting to be a Carpenter and using more modern terms and ideals could be entertraining though Also, why do they take out the rebirth part of the story? That worked for the untamed
It's because the untamed is about immortality/xianxia. They cultivate and therefore can live long and has powers. But this is a mortal world setting. There can't be rebirth. The untamed had the powers and rituals thing so Wei Ying can come back from the dead in another person's body. But in this type of drama where the setting isn't on immortality or xianxia. The rebirth just can't happen. If the rebirth happened there will be a God or immortal that made it happen but it will change the setting to xianxia. And then there will be more plot holes.
There’s a rule in Chinese drama-making and movie-making: no superstition (including ghosts, demons, spirits, reincarnation etc) unless the setting is clearly sci-fi or fantasy, because communists are atheists. That’s why there’s no true horror movies set in modern China-you have to make it clear that the supernatural things are either in someone’s dream or illusion.
@@shawnyang435 except for dramas or movies like journey to the west. Because that is legendary. They won't ban journey to west even though it features, demons, reincarnation, stuff like thats
If you’re someone who likes looking at pretty things/ actress, looking at cute couple and doesn’t like to use your brain, this drama is made for you. Their target audiences are young girls and people who enjoy having an almighty FL. However if you’re someone who can’t stand simple-minded plot then please avoid this drama 🙂 I would say this drama satisfy the visuals but falls short on the realistic part. It occurs way too often to ignore and becomes unbearable for me. If you don’t mind superficial stuffs though perhaps you’ll be happy with it.
Thank goodness theres some voice of reason here besides AvenueX theres very few certified critics on rating Cdrma and calling it the best etc. all i see is this is my favorite because of the prettiest MLC'' or ''my favorite eye candy'' is acting in it. Its all becoming quiet shallow lately in cdrama land and i have learnt to pick out fake reviews/opinions here in the comments. I also beleive all those ratings on Cdrama are diluted misleadingly by fan-netizens of particular actors so its hard to tell what cdramas are genuinely good. I have to rely on people like AvenueX to see real critique on cdramas and going by the comments here seems i'm not alone.
I know the CDrama industry is trying very hard to convince/brainwash us into thinking that Ju Jing Yi is so pretty she can get away with her horrible horrible acting, but I rebuke that! Even AngelaBaby and Dilraba cannot pull the foot-acting shenanigans that she's been pulling and still get so many lead roles 2 years in a row. They are really just wasting money on this girl and these dramas, I swear. There must be some money laundering scheme going on because I have never seen this level of not trying from a big-name or "semi-big production" before.
LMAO I was wondering where the rebirth was gonna happen cuz usually rebirth stories start off with the character dying and getting a second chance at life. I'm happy I dropped this drama half way through ep 1
Lol I love your review even though I am actually enjoying this drama but definitely enjoy your perspective great job. I’m just happy that the female lead isn’t a damsel in distress waiting for the man to save her. I enjoy the fact that it moves fast. Meaning most dramas take like 30 eps to get to the notion of a certain scheme. 2 eps and it’s solved lol.
...when the rant on a drama is more entertaining in comparison to the drama itself... that vision of "even spread" will stay with me for a while thank you 🤣😆😁😂
I have not watch this drama only the first 3 episode but when I started I had 1 question how did she work like that, I love her headdress and clothing but like come on in every other context it may work but a setting where the main female lead is a craftsman is not the right context so designers please do your job well. I think her clothes should be completely torn and dirty while the only hair piece should at most be a wooden hairpin, I mean me trying to draw something can make my room into a living disaster while a specialized craftsmen (women hehe) can look so perfect with her makeup and headdress and clothes is impossible.
and yes I spend 10 minutes ranting on how bad the design is I can't even explain how bad the plot also I can't get this off my chest since I love this anime so much so .... watch fruits basket 100000000000x better than ashes of love and doesn't deal with romance more of moving on from past trauma and understanding yourself not to be a good person but a person that you can accept and forgive, it has the same beginning as ashes of love somewhat but creates such a impactful story that you would not be able to get rid of for 2 months or years, especially when you have depression, anxiety, in a toxic relationship, bullying and more; you will find pieces of yourself in these characters. p.s please watch fruits basket its an anime 10000000000000000000000/10 recommend please don't judge a book by its cover I did when I watch it and I really regret thinking that (also it seems like a reverse harem but its not)
Oh in the new episode where she disguised as a man but her lips are BRIGHT RED and when the “master” told her that he realized she’s a man from day one and she was so shocked ...... like girl ???? Are you kidding me? Hes not blind, and the audience isn’t fooled either. But honestly her character had always been the “Free spirited” girl but this time she’s supposed to be a princess yet she carries herself the same way where sometimes she’s walking like a drunkard, skipping around, slouching, making faces as if the palace never taught her the slightest bit of etiquette. The only thing likable about her character set up is that she’s not completely dumb although sometimes her “boldness” tend to get on my nerves and lead to disasters but hey, its C-Drama, more often than not female characters are just there to create trouble
I do not look into the plot too much with her dramas, she just looks good on screen and it’s relaxing to watch Yeah, I like her makeup and this drama reminds me so much of Ruyi Pavillion😅
To be honest, It's what I expected to be? No. I haven't had the pleasure to read the original book, and I already knew that they were not going to go for the rebirth plot because of the censure. BUT I like Ju Jingyi, do I find her makeup to be too much? Yes (especially if she is disguised as a maid/man or at night), do I find that for a princess her actions are hella weird? I do, as a princess, you should always have good posture and be "presentable". That said, I am highly enjoying the drama, I've never seen Zeng Shunxi in anything before and I find the pairing SO freaking cute, I really like their chemistry, is just so cute. Although the drama might not be the best in the plot or sense, I do enjoy it. I feel bad for Ju Jingyi honestly, she should slow down with the makeup, yes, but I feel that she has a lot of pressure of keeping the idol image, from what I've seen on Weibo (translating it to English, so of course is not 100% accurate) she has suffered a lot of online bullying and I think that that DEFINETLY affects the outcome of everything. Perhaps if Siba really wanted her to succeed or become better they would let her improve and not feel so pressured to keep up with that image. Again, that's my opinion. That being said I hope they can work again in the future and with a great script :)
I agree, and I love this drama and their chemistry too. Sometimes, you can overlook minor things to enjoy the overall result, instead of just writing off a drama because it isn't 100% realistic or accurate. If I wanted that, I'd watch a historical biography instead of historical drama with idol actors!!! Entertainment and enjoyment of the production counts!
@@Angetbaby ohh I'm so agree with your statement.. sometimes i even felt bored with dramas that's too "realistic" even tho people said that dramas are really good (story-telling-wise) but we need entertainment 😂 as much as people think this drama is not good, I'm enjoying it just fine 😂 the lead characters' chemistry are great.. if someone expect a "realistic" drama then they can find it elsewhere.
She look exactly like her role in ruyi pavilion which to me is acceptable except that I watched rebirth until EP 20 to figure out there is no real story and no direction in this drama. A waste of time actually. Tho I like the actor after watching the ultimate note it feels like his talent is wasted in this drama
I would have to agree with your rant! JJY's acting seems very self conscious. I always feels like she's always herself playing another character, so it's hard to make the character believable. The degree of historical inaccuracies is also a complete wash. There's just no way she can walk around without escorts given her character's background. Compare this to the lead role in 'a female student arrives at the imperial college'...zls also walk around most of the time sans escort, but she can fight. She grew up in the boarder with army men....she grew up with mostly men...so her character has some sound logic as to why she is allowed a bit more freedom. Although that drama also has it's fair share of logic problem.
I avoid anything with this actress in it, tbh. She isn't good at acting and even in "A class of her own" I felt like she had a certain kind of styling in her contract or something, even with every guy around her being as pretty as elves, she was visibly a girl in a school for boys.
I never like this actress because I do believe that she's a product of heavy plastic surgeries. She'd always overacting in a lot of her other dramas. Besides she's too short to create a perfect cp pair with most the male leads for on screen chemistry. Overall, she's one of those actresses I would not pick to watch her dramas when I saw her name as female lead...lol
🔥Awesome rant🔥 Speaking for us all. The image of Jang Jiyi's character (and her irritating beads) distributed over the six surfaces of a woodshop is most apt for the quality of this drama.
For me it's always so interesting how different and subjective viewer's perception of a drama can be! 'Cause i'm enjoying this drama so much i binged-watched 7 episodes on the weekend 😂😂 BTW YOU OUTFIT IS GORGEOUS 😍😍😍 thank you for making videos 💟💟💟 i love your channel!!!
I noticed that the director also only did dramas you ranted about heavily (A class of her own (SO BORING) and the 2019 Legend of the white snake). And I cringed as well when she started to work on the wood with the big sleeves, the flowy skirt.. and the open hair.. I got the horror stories about open hair and electric drills from my father. And if you do non electric wood work- long sleeved work jackets and gloves were certainly available in pseudo-Tang. Why on earth did the emperor admit the maids baby was his if they have an open-door harem with guards and male visitors roaming alone, and if they handle it like that- no reason to mutilate men to become eunuchs. They said it is lantern festival (so february?), how are magnolias blooming at the same time as late-summer meadows with marigolds?? There are no pretty flower meadows on the northern hemisphere in february~
I love your ranting videos. Funnily enough I'm watching most of the dramas and I'm like yeah it's a bit silly but let's ignore it. And after your rant I can't watch anymore. Your videos are worth it. Always put a smile on my face.
I’ll be honest - I’ve never watched the female lead. I didn’t even know who she was, just that I stumbled upon this drama. It’s better than what I expected although her makeup is a bit much. I like the general drama plot and the clothes, as well as the set and the props
I can't survive even the half of the first episode. LOL. I can handle her in her two dramas with Zhang Zhehan, because ZZH makes it worth it. Her daintiness highlighted ZZH's masculinity. But her recent two dramas, this one and the previous contemporary one, I stop it mid-way. I have other things to do with my precious time.
Agreed. ZZH made the Ruyi Pavilion for me. I wasn’t impressed with her acting but I like her strong female character. She seems to have strong female character rolls that help her with the part. The dangling jewelry is distracting and subtracts from her performance.
I watched until episode 13 and yeah they got married in episode 12. The lead is wearing that trinkets in her head and I find it weird, haven't seen it in other princess.
I just can stand 1st and 6 minutes of the 2nd episode for this drama. I'm tired of the drama in historical time set in which the female lead always has the mischievous with the audacity to do whatever she wants, BUT CAN'T DO ANYTHING TO CLEAN UP THEIR MESS... she's too troublesome and needs both males leads to saving her countless time (if you can't even save your own ass, stay away from trouble, please) She's a princess, but she impolitely hits and taps to talk to others and... I almost slap her when she's not even offered her hand after the ML saved her from the cliff, even stole the first position instead of giving that up to him as gratitude for saving her useless life. She's not even saying thank you to him.... (beauty privilege, as long as you are pretty, you can do anything) I totally agree with the wardrobe. I hope they dressed her in a more comfortable dress and hairdo... or simply take away those beads and only use them on special occasions. I also wonder why in some Cdrama they dressed the female lead totally way differently than other female characters from the same drama, to make it stand out. Sometimes the actress and actors themselves won't let themselves look bad/ugly... which caused them still use heavy makeup at bath and bed scenes. How frustrating this is for me to see this as a viewer
I've never watched any of your videos before but I have heard about you, and I agree with all your positive and negative points you've made here - That's pretty much what I like and dislike about this drama too. I think you've nailed it perfectly when you say "they are not trying to tell you a story." It's all just an illusionary setup to mislead you... and it's for that very reason I get increasingly annoyed by this plot and all the characters with every episode I watch (I've actually managed to watch 15 episodes). If you are here for the couple, which I feel most people enjoying this are, I can understand... but for me, it's just not enough to hold my interest.
I thought to try this drama out but I was reminded of her and ZZ second drama and I was not feeling that drama, because I felt there was a lack of storyline. Speaking of her look, I thought it was good when I initially saw it but after a while it really starts to get boring and just too much.
Honestly I have watched all her four dramas and one thing I want to criticize is the way they beautified her in every scenes. Like for examples, someone wants to catch her in the forest, normally after panicking and struggling running for long, at least your hair will be messy but no, she looks perfectly stunning, even when she fell from the cliff, her looks was perfect. Honestly, she's really pretty and her acting skills was good. I just hope that in her next dramas, they will let her look more realistic, natural and according to her scenes and roles. Like if she was sick, don't put make up on her, if she's mourning, don't put make up on her. If she was homeless and no money, don't let her wear pretty clothes. If someone's was after her, mess her hair. In short, please don't beautified her too much to the point it was not realistic anymore. She's beautiful enough, so let her grow and became a better actress not an idol. She has potential and room for improvement.
The only time that I love JJY's makeup is at the very last scene of the very last episode.. natural at it best without all those eye soaring dangling things
I hope noone gonna hate me for this comment but here it goes... JJY acting isn't good. I watch like 4 of her dramas and it's always the same. I really think that she needs to take step back, take some supporting roles and acting classes. There is nothing wrong at working on yourself (ex. EXO has been in industry for 10 years but they still taking singing classes because they want to be better then they are). Second thing is that she always looks the same in every drama, same makeup, expressions. I even watch interview with her and her makeup is the same like in the drama. She is indeed pretty but pretty doesn't cut it in movies/dramas. Audience when they watch something they wanna feel it like they are in there and after drama finish they want to feel effect of drama at least for a week. And I know that some gonna say that she is idol so she has image to maintain but there is so many idols who turn actors who do amazing job and when they are acting they don't care about their idol image (ex. DO or Ok Taecyeon). If she wanna be actress she needs to break her shelf and work hard because in movies/dramas audience don't care about her being idol because most of audience isn't even fan of that genre of music.
I didn't watch the drama, nor I am a fan of her. Acting is bad and story is illogical, don't understand why it's #1 ranking on Vlinkage according to another UA-camr drama reviewer.
@@bapyongukgukguk2352 I do agree with you on that, but he did amazing job on Vincenzo so I would assume that he at least trying to do good job with acting and he is working on that. And I think that is what JJY needs. If she wants career in movies/dramas she need to work on her acting. It's nothing personal when I put those two names as example, I just couldn't remember anyone else at that moment but there is so many idols/singers who are amazing actors and I think that even JJY could do that if she tries.
@@maiyiayang6760 I don't know why it's #1 to be honest. I did read somewhere that JJY is really popular idol so maybe her fans hype the drama without looking objectively into her acting or the writing of the drama itself. There aren't many good c drama actresses. And considering the market, she's FL quality. Unless we look to recycle avery few over and again. There are some actresses that gets the leading role and people gush over... But can not act. As for acting the same. Or have the same style. They all act the same in each movie. @@fredaowusu-agyapong to be fair, this year there's a lack of good dramas. One and only has good production, and acting. Bailu did wonderful in it and so did Allen. It's a different kind of love story, slow burn with the roles and etiquette they have to maintain that prevents them from being together. It's a beautiful love story but plot is Hella slow and somewhat dull. Though I will make effort to finish it. As for forever and ever, some plots are questionable and kinda ridiculous but bc of one and only many fans just want the leads to be together so they overlook the flaws. But I do like how subtly wealthy zsc's family are. Very aristocratic. There's not many dramas that have rewatch value for me. The ones I do rewatch are very few, Nirvana in Fire, Startling by Each Step and Go Ahead etc. Mainly dramas that I've watched all the way through.

@@winniechen4311 you are right, Leo Luo did a good job, and I understand that Dilraba is a top actress. in fact for me, it seemed that the long ballad was just made to make dilraba shine all the time. I actually enjoyed it, but I think the storyline and yangyang helped a lot.
I have seen the leading drama in her older dramas and I did like some of her drama but lately I do not have the urge to watch her anymore as I think she looks the same and act the same in the last few dramas now. Quickly looking at it, I am bored already to look at her the same acting she always portrays.
I cant believe Once we get married is rated higher than this hahahaa The only thing i like about this drama is their chemistry. But... They are already married and in love. And havent even kissed properly, the second lead who are basically kids are faster than them.
I'm currently watching this drama and even though I like it, I also find myself questioning the decisions made during the filming. I'm only three episodes in and already I have questions: why is everything so fast paced, what is wrong with that weird emperor or whatever, he behaves like a toxic creep around our princess and the most crucial question is - are they playing dress-up? Pacing: I like that it is fast paced but some things get just skimmed over and they move to the next thing or agenda; like the competition, they never showed how they built their machines, they never showed why the master chose them exactly for what reasons and everything else after that is just new thing after new thing. Same with the changing days, it feels like they never indicate how this day from one scene changes to another, it just is an other day but with the same clothes. I understand they want to create fluid continuation between the scenes but it is little bit jarring to see the jumps of time or scenes without anything connecting them together (like when they finished the competition and the 2nd ML and the princess wanted to celebrate but the guard had other plans but they never showed the "other plans" and it just jumped into another day). The emperor: He is just plain creep. Toxic at that, too. If you don't see it, I can borrow my glasses. Possessive, manipulative, conniving little B. I just don't like him at all, simple as that. Hopefully our girl gets as far away as possible from him, without being forced to marry him. The dress-up impression: The postures, emotions and actions these characters have. As Avenue mentioned, they don't fit with the "title" these people have, especially the princess - her behaviour and mannerism is way too contemporary. If this had the element of rebirth included, then it would explain a lot (if she was a contemporary woman from our times reborn/transmigrated into the princess' body), then these mannerisms wouldn't bother, but as it stands, it is little bit weird. And the other characters and their liberties from the courtly etiquette, they also raise some questions (how on earth is she able to escape the palace so easily without the whole palace searching for her?! The guards need to get fired for doing such a lousy job - if she can sneak out so easily, anybody could sneak in easily too and kill them all, as was already shown). All in all, this whole drama raises some questions but I will continue watching this as I want to - at least, I try to - switch my logical thinking off and just enjoy the fluid, funny bantering the guard and the princess have with each other. At least they have some chemistry going on, it's not boring to watch them in the same scenes, they have this teasing, camaraderie banter and understanding going on even though they've known each other for such a short time. Edit: Have you noticed how many times the princess is always saved from a fall. At least a couple of times in one episode, it's starting to get absurd. Girl, get yourself together!
@@marianagarcia5115 An no matter whether or not the fall could be dangerous or not. Absurd plot device, really... Forced sugary moments, like Avenue would say.
I never watch her drama..she is an actress who needs lots of makeup to look pretty.I don't take people like her serious at all. She is too concerned about her looks than her acting skills. I am currently enjoying the drama once we get married.
I watched a few episodes of this drama..because some time ago i read that the story was going to be about reincarnation which is the kind of story I like. But you right.. the beads jewelery is too annoying to watch..and the plot is boring.
This was a great review .... I enjoyed it so much! Haven't seen Rebirth yet, but I feel quite comfortable about moving it well down my list. I happen to agree that there needs to be some there there, not just pretty actors.
She reminds me of Ruby Lin in the sense that the dramas always portray them to be this saintly, pure and innocent being and it’s annoying tbh. Thanks for the honest (and brutal) review. Can always count on you. Lol.
The thing with Ruby is they always tried hard and cast her as "the beauty heroine" of the dramas something like michelle chen in ROTCH. And it never worked for me cause Ruby's aura is more girl next door. The gorgeous charismatic type of roles fit more the likes of Fan Bing Bing or Zhang Ziyi but not Ruby
Addressing that she doesn't act like a princess in terms of posture and eating, they addressed it when the ML said she doesn't act like a proper princess. This is probably because her parents died early and her grandma empress dowager spoiled her
But then that is where the writer contradicts themselves. If they are setting her up to be an empress, there is no way she can behave like that because as an empress there are ppl in the court waiting to bring her down for anything. No matter how spoilt she is the writer does not seem to care about the reality of it, she cannot be raised as a soon to be empress and not know how to sit, speak and behave.
Rebirth for you is worth watching. I really like JuJingyi my fav actress. Even though theirs a negative comments on this drama. It become a successful drama of this year and 1 billion views in tencent..
Whenever she walks I'm like...nooooo, that's not how a noble princess would be!!!! Bloody hell, stop swaying around! Control your movements, be graceful! I just watched first episode. There's nothing interesting so I didn't continue. Usually I give a chance till five episodes to decides whether I continue or not. But this drama 🤦♀️🤦♀️
I watched a few drama switch Ju Jingyi in it, and honestly I’m not a big fan. Her acting is the same it like I’m watching Legend of Yun Xi and The Blooms at RUYI Pavilion. Her acting is the same and let’s not talk about her acting.
After suffering through a few episodes, I felt like this needed a good rant video to clear all the time wasted on this. How refreshing

The male actors are solid actors but when they act with her it falls apart....she is the constant 😂

I do think that in other conditions (and perhaps with another company) she could become a better actress tbh.

Let me stop you right there, it's not.

She is a good singer for sure. Her acting is pretty much the same. The make up is way too Geisha like for a small beautiful face.
Unfortunately JJY gives me the impression that she's simply acting to get to look pretty and not getting prettied up for acting aka she treats the drama as her own personal MV or smth and doesn't bother with how unrealistic things look as long as she's Pretty(TM).
one thing about ju jingyi is that she's going to wear makeup and her hair finna be did not matter what scene it is 💀
It really bothers me when the role requires her to disguise herself as a man because at least they can exclude the lipstick or choose a muted color if shes really scared of looking ugly without makeup, but no... she gotta wear RED lipstick

😅😅😮
I can’t bring myself to watch any of her dramas, the body posture, the acting…. It’s just so bad. And like a few other popular actresses, seems to be playing the same characters over and over.
A contemporary drama about a high class lady wanting to be a Carpenter and using more modern terms and ideals could be entertraining though
Also, why do they take out the rebirth part of the story?

If you’re someone who likes looking at pretty things/ actress, looking at cute couple and doesn’t like to use your brain, this drama is made for you.
Their target audiences are young girls and people who enjoy having an almighty FL.
However if you’re someone who can’t stand simple-minded plot then please avoid this drama 🙂
I would say this drama satisfy the visuals but falls short on the realistic part. It occurs way too often to ignore and becomes unbearable for me. If you don’t mind superficial stuffs though perhaps you’ll be happy with it.
Finally I found a person just like me
tbh I was bored and was looking for a shallow drama and it served its purpose🤷♀
Not a memorable drama at all but gave me something to watch
The purpose of this drama to make audiences think how pretty Ju JingYi is😂
Lol I love your review even though I am actually enjoying this drama but definitely enjoy your perspective great job. I’m just happy that the female lead isn’t a damsel in distress waiting for the man to save her. I enjoy the fact that it moves fast. Meaning most dramas take like 30 eps to get to the notion of a certain scheme. 2 eps and it’s solved lol.
You are being generous in your rating for this drama.
...when the rant on a drama is more entertaining in comparison to the drama itself... that vision of "even spread" will stay with me for a while thank you 🤣😆😁😂
Not only that there is lack of emotion in this drama. I did not get that thing. Its just empty. I mean, what i am watching.
I have not watch this drama only the first 3 episode but when I started I had 1 question how did she work like that, I love her headdress and clothing but like come on in every other context it may work but a setting where the main female lead is a craftsman is not the right context so designers please do your job well. I think her clothes should be completely torn and dirty while the only hair piece should at most be a wooden hairpin, I mean me trying to draw something can make my room into a living disaster while a specialized craftsmen (women hehe) can look so perfect with her makeup and headdress and clothes is impossible.
and yes I spend 10 minutes ranting on how bad the design is
I can't even explain how bad the plot
also I can't get this off my chest since I love this anime so much so .... watch fruits basket 100000000000x better than ashes of love and doesn't deal with romance more of moving on from past trauma and understanding yourself not to be a good person but a person that you can accept and forgive, it has the same beginning as ashes of love somewhat but creates such a impactful story that you would not be able to get rid of for 2 months or years, especially when you have depression, anxiety, in a toxic relationship, bullying and more; you will find pieces of yourself in these characters.
p.s please watch fruits basket its an anime 10000000000000000000000/10 recommend please don't judge a book by its cover I did when I watch it and I really regret thinking that (also it seems like a reverse harem but its not)
Oh in the new episode where she disguised as a man but her lips are BRIGHT RED and when the “master” told her that he realized she’s a man from day one and she was so shocked ...... like girl ???? Are you kidding me? Hes not blind, and the audience isn’t fooled either.
But honestly her character had always been the “Free spirited” girl but this time she’s supposed to be a princess yet she carries herself the same way where sometimes she’s walking like a drunkard, skipping around, slouching, making faces as if the palace never taught her the slightest bit of etiquette. The only thing likable about her character set up is that she’s not completely dumb although sometimes her “boldness” tend to get on my nerves and lead to disasters but hey, its C-Drama, more often than not female characters are just there to create trouble
I do not look into the plot too much with her dramas, she just looks good on screen and it’s relaxing to watch
Yeah, I like her makeup and this drama reminds me so much of Ruyi Pavillion😅
After watching the first episode, I knew I needed a rant video for this drama from avenuex
I cracked up when I saw your thumbnail 😏
@@Angetbaby Hell yeah! Glad to hear someone is enjoying it too haha!
The chemistry between them is freaking awesome!
@@doieochi exactly my tough! If you want to find any sense on series that have people jumping on roofs what is your baseline of realism?😂😂✨
Wait, rebirth is censored? WHY?
She look exactly like her role in ruyi pavilion which to me is acceptable except that I watched rebirth until EP 20 to figure out there is no real story and no direction in this drama. A waste of time actually. Tho I like the actor after watching the ultimate note it feels like his talent is wasted in this drama
I love the thumbnail.
Omaygosh! I'm making my essay then the notification of your new video popped up so yeah, I'm dropping my essay for 12:41 minutes. HAHAHAHA
Love this rant. You are hilarious. Made my day.
'Cause i'm enjoying this drama so much i binged-watched 7 episodes on the weekend 😂😂
BTW YOU OUTFIT IS GORGEOUS 😍😍😍 thank you for making videos 💟💟💟 i love your channel!!!
same here, the drama is amazing
Me too - not a fan of either leads but the drama beat my expectations
Exactly I'm enjoying it and always looking forward to the next episode ASAP. 😊 it gets more interesting the more you watch it.
yeah i kinda liked, the couple was really nice. Ofc i don't think its outstanding in any way but was a fun watch/time-pass
For me I love their chemistry
I agree the story is quite good. And I'm not even that of a fan of her.
You're outfit and styling is sooooooo pretty!!😍
I watched until episode 13 and yeah they got married in episode 12. The lead is wearing that trinkets in her head and I find it weird, haven't seen it in other princess.
Your hair style is amazing.
I just can stand 1st and 6 minutes of the 2nd episode for this drama. I'm tired of the drama in historical time set in which the female lead always has the mischievous with the audacity to do whatever she wants, BUT CAN'T DO ANYTHING TO CLEAN UP THEIR MESS... she's too troublesome and needs both males leads to saving her countless time (if you can't even save your own ass, stay away from trouble, please)
She's a princess, but she impolitely hits and taps to talk to others and... I almost slap her when she's not even offered her hand after the ML saved her from the cliff, even stole the first position instead of giving that up to him as gratitude for saving her useless life. She's not even saying thank you to him.... (beauty privilege, as long as you are pretty, you can do anything)
I totally agree with the wardrobe.
I clicked on the thumbnail to watch just cos of AvenueX’s expression 😎
Lol my reaction to hearing her dream had me imagining the same thing you did and my only experience with woodwork was a class i took in middle school.
How could you stop watching at episode 8 such a cliffhanger on ep9
Taecyon is still a limited actor tho
Bad acting can destroy good writing, and bad writing can destroy good acting and in this drama both is bad. I'm so sorry, I sound so mean with what I said but it is objective.
There aren't many good c drama actresses. And considering the market, she's FL quality. Unless we look to recycle avery few over and again. There are some actresses that gets the leading role and people gush over... But can not act.

I have seen the leading drama in her older dramas and I did like some of her drama but lately I do not have the urge to watch her anymore as I think she looks the same and act the same in the last few dramas now. Quickly looking at it, I am bored already to look at her the same acting she always portrays.
I cant believe Once we get married is rated higher than this hahahaa
The only thing i like about this drama is their chemistry. But... They are already married and in love. And havent even kissed properly, the second lead who are basically kids are faster than them.
I love the way you talk ❤️❤️❤️
I am also following this drama and I agree with you. The drama itself is trash but the chemistry between the main leads keeps me coming back.
And always, coincidentally, it is the ML who saves her no matter how far away she is or if other people are closer.
I confess, my first reaction to her costume was that she looked like a character out of a Shakespeare play.
That washing money visual 👀
I watched a few episodes of this drama..because some time ago i read that the story was going to be about reincarnation which is the kind of story I like. But you right.. the beads jewelery is too annoying to watch..and the plot is boring.
This was a great review .... I enjoyed it so much! Haven't seen Rebirth yet, but I feel quite comfortable about moving it well down my list. I happen to agree that there needs to be some there there, not just pretty actors.
Avenue x deosnt have much followers it deserve, but her followers are solid, the comment section are fun to read
No matter how spoilt she is the writer does not seem to care about the reality of it, she cannot be raised as a soon to be empress and not know how to sit, speak and behave.
they love rebirth stories, but hate that they are reborn....bruh....
Rebirth for you is worth watching. I really like JuJingyi my fav actress. Even though theirs a negative comments on this drama. It become a successful drama of this year and 1 billion views in tencent..
Omg ...I love your critics . I agreed with you in many things. But it was too funny too. Can't stop laughing. Thanks 👍👍😂
JuJingYi can't act cause she is way too busy thinking about looking good onscreen. Her eyes speak one language : "must look good"
Whenever she walks I'm like...nooooo, that's not how a noble princess would be!!!! Bloody hell, stop swaying around! Control your movements, be graceful!
Eh, yeah, she does not look or feel like a princess at all, but then again...none of them do.
I'm not taking this drama or most of these "historical" romance dramas seriously 'cuz they just look & feel so fake.
Just turn off my brain and enjoy the drama drama 😂
I just watched first episode. There's nothing interesting so I didn't continue. Usually I give a chance till five episodes to decides whether I continue or not. But this drama 🤦♀️🤦♀️

I watched a few drama switch Ju Jingyi in it, and honestly I’m not a big fan. Her acting is the same it like I’m watching Legend of Yun Xi and The Blooms at RUYI Pavilion. Her acting is the same and let’s not talk about her acting.
She's pretty but I always associate her type of face that typically seen from social media influencers.
