The pears are dipped in wax to stop them from ripening too quickly! Another lovely vlog thank you 2 x
Yes, as moisture is lost through the stalk. I think it used to be done more widely bit is now found pretty much in one or two types of pear found in France and sometimes in Italy too.
You can do something similar with bananas to slow the ripening process

Love a foodie vlog! Your joy in what you can access and cook for your family in a new country/home.Beautiful. Great market - food hacks to make a meal. Purists will get all twisted around how things should happen from scratch. Worked as a chef my entire adult life - food hacks are brilliant. Good food using the best locally fresh/ packaged, to make an evening meal an event. Priceless. I love prepared ginger. Recently in making muffins/cakes. Truffles in everything. I buy a Spanish cheese (sheep) with truffle and it is amazing. I am sure you can source it in France. Quick hack with a frozen naan bread base with toppings for a pizza. OMG that cheese makes it. Olive oil is so precious. I use Mollini from Italy - not expensive and bloody good. Food is life - keep sharing the love!

With the variety's late ripening, the stems of the fruit are coated in a bright red sealing wax by hand to prevent moisture loss. This wax has become a symbol of the variety and is still used on the pears grown in France and Italy today….Googled of course guys!!!!

Farmers' markets and cooperatives are usually good wherever they are. They are sometimes a little more expensive, but not always and there are often next to no middlemen.
"Pêche" means 🍑 but "pêche" means "fishing" 🎣.

Just loved the look of your Dinner. I am always trying to think of different ways with Pasta other than Tomato & Mushroom as we don't eat red meat. I also have a nice (French) Rose in the Fridge so I will get some fish tomorrow and try it out.

Good afternoon, from what I could see on the Anjou 🍐🍐🍐🍐 Pears the wax is attached to the stem and does not damage the skin and perhaps there is a label of it s type attached to the wax from what I could see. The little sticky plastic things that they put on so many things in this country rip off a little of the skin. I could be mistaken but that is my best guess.OR it's just the romance of old time sealing wax. Finished watching your vlog. The puppies seem to be very well & so happy to see you. Sylvia seems to be moving more easier now. I wonder if they did anything to her when she was out for her spayed operation. The market was wonderful. I am out of ginger candied strips, truly yummy they are. I just have a real yen for some honey butter popcorn so I am going to take pause & post this and return... Much later, Your food choices are great at that market. Definitely easier than trying to grow it. Your dinner plates for the children and Ryan looked so yummy! So colorful & appetizing. Indeed you both said the French word for 🎏🎏 'poisson ' at the end of today's vlog whilst cooking and giggling. You have such fun together and tease one another so delightfully. (PS just read some of your comments and according to Stella Nicholas it has to do with retarding the ripening process about the wax on the pears - interesting so much for my ideas! Fern I've noticed that your kitchen is always very clean & tidy while your cooking!! Out of curiosity (I'm nosey! 😊) is it always like that or only when you're vloging? 😜🤗 I usually have a giant mess everywhere. Lol
Other rooms in the house get messy (especially my dressing room 🙃) but we’re pretty good with the kitchen.. clean as we go. It’s a habit probably from caravan living in our early 20’s! ☺️

I grew up in Yorkshire and we used to eat lots of dried fruit at home (dates, figs, apricots). But I only discovered sugared dried figs really recently and I love them!

Hi, ... peche is fishing or fisheries. Peche is the 'action', and the fish themselves are 'poissons'. Then the 'poissonnerie' is the fish monger.
