  • This is now the "post-doom" collapse education video I suggest that people watch first. It has the core elements of my other videos: postdoom.com/r... plus vital things none of the others contain. I'll add a more detailed description and time-coded table of contents to the UA-cam description box in the next day or two.

Trees are beaten by healthy soil as it produces plants we eat and doesn't suffer fall (we have destroyed more than half the viable soil since the industrial revolution) Sadly, there is little impetus to repair it even though it was the answer. I say was, as it is too late anyway now as climate instability will ruin farming shortly, Soil restoration takes the few years we no longer have! Also our greed ,monetising the world would prevent it!

We have no control over ultimate outcomes and it sure looks like this is the end of Homo Colossus and Homo sapiens. It looks like the end of life on earth - in any form that we know. But just as we are all going to die, how we live now in the predicament is all we have left. By centering on loving kindness for all Creation we can live well within this terrible predicament. I am a mystic. I believe Love/Life makes a way for Love and Life and that we can choose to participate in this simply by choosing to love as best as we can here and now. It MUST be discouraging that STILL people don't wake up and, more importantly, change their lives. You must ask yourself "WHAT ELSE can I do?" Well, I hope you keep it up. May I suggest that you turn your attention and that of those whose attention you can get to the power of narrative fiction. Not more documentaries or exposition, and no more dystopias, but hopeful fiction. Fiction that can give people a new dream. There was a host of such work in the 1910's through the 1940's in the USA accompanying the "Back to the Land" movements. See Dona Brown's book, "Back to the Land". None of it, though, was lastingly influential like, say, "Swiss Family Robinson".

Depends what you put your Hope in. Hope is a spiritual Reality and Spirit is Hope well placed. The same with nuclear meltdowns. 440 nuclear meltdowns is way fucking worse than 40 nuclear meltdowns for damn near every species on Earth. I agree with your conclusions Michael, except that I would add that we are in runaway greenhouse(with temperatures likely to reach 60c or more above than normal) and that within a decade there will be biological annihilation, no matter what we do. Also, it takes 60 years to decommission a nuclear reactor, and even decommissioning all of them immediately, would mean that when they are abandoned in 10 years, the cooling ponds will dry up and the fuel rods will ignite, because they wont have cooled enough to be encased in concrete. It will be only slightly less of nuclear disaster. Everything will die of extreme overheating and plastic poisoning anyway. Of course none of these reactors will be decommissioned and no government on earth is likely to admit that we are doomed. You dont seem to realize that humans are an anti-natural, toxic, unsustainable, omnicidal species, but also a corrupt, insane, uncooperative and uncontrolable species. And irredeemable of course. Even the scientists wont admit that we doomed, with the exception of Guy Macpherson, who has been blacklisted and banned from government employment. Michael, this is an impressive presentation, you are very dedicated, but it will have no effect on the runaway train of omnicidal industrial civilization. The only thing that could change the blind, omnicidal trajectory of the human amoeba, would be an alien invasion and takeover of the planet. Highly advanced aliens could simply take away all of our nuclear technology and place it on uranus. They could immediately cull our massive overpopulation down to a number that is the actual carrying capacity of the earth, one million. The Aliens could easily remove a trillion tons of greenhouse gasses from our atmosphere and a trillion tons of carbolic acid from the oceans. It would be simple for high tech aliens to clean up our macro, micro and nano plastic and our mountains of toxic trash and even repair our badly damaged ozone layer. Humans cant do anything except to make matters worse. And that is what they are doing, and what they will continue to do right up until the collapse of everything. To imagine any other outcome is to be in denial and to be smoking hopium.

How could you possibly think I believed that this presentation - or, for that matter ANYTHING I say or do, or anything anyone says or does - will slow the "nunaway omnicidal train of industrial civilization"? Your idea of highly advanced aliens is, in my estimation, another example of super high quality hopium. Even that idea of "advanced" is delusional. If I may be so arrogant, I see your consistent lack of an ecological understanding of reality revealed in many of the comments you make. (Make no mistake, I truly do appreciate that you've watched so much of my stuff and commented thoughtfully on so many as well!). Still, will you ever read Catton?? 🙂It's okay if you don't. Damned if we do and damned if we don't solve "climate change caused by overshoot"? I vote do solve the problem. We tend to believe that our behavior towards the environment
is driven by two motives. We need sustenance, and we desire to profit. It appears as though there are two motivations because the dictionary definition of "profit" is incorrect.
The definition of profit fails to state that sustenance is our only actual life giving "gain", and also fails to state that our only source of sustenance is the environment.
We solve overshoot by 1.) correcting the dictionary definition of profit and 2.) creating a "Global Economic Model" that fits well with the new dictionary definition of profit.
This Definition makes protecting the environment our first priority: "Profit = our gratefulness and loving care for our Environment, and for the sustenance that it provides to all of us".
The central part of the new GEM should be the EPA. EPA members will vote on the best 'Profit' definition that states sustenance is our only actual 'gain'
without which we can't live, and states that the environment is our only source of sustenance.
As the central hub of the new GEM, EPA members will establish, by vote, all directives related to both, the GEM and climate rescue strategies.
Here are just some rough ideas of what the EPA directives might be:
1.) Population: Initially we need a one child per family directive.
2.) In place of income, jobs would have an 'equivalency rating'. Some jobs are still more important and more difficult than others.
3.) All equivalency ratings will increase at the same time if and when the environment becomes healthier. The lowest EquivRate must still be livable.
4.) Everyone who can work will be able, and required, to get jobs. No more expenses, so no more cutting jobs to reduce expenses; thus, virtually no more homelessness.
5.) No manufacturing of useless and unnecessary products. All products will be scrutinized by various rating methods.
6.) Whenever possible products should last a lifetime and or be easily upgradable, so we don't buy the same products repeatedly.
7.) EPA will direct "Work Force Flow". Example: Shoe manufacturer will produce 100yearLife shoes for 3 years, then reduce output to about 1/10 of full capacity, and
the majority of shoe employees will be shifted to other work assignments by the EPA. Employees still keep their EquivRate in-between jobs.
I know that this is just a rough outline of what we must do, but it's a good starting point.
This is our Ark. Please help build it! Questions, suggestions and any comments for or against this idea will be very deeply appreciated. Thank you!

Profit causes a side effect. It drives us to extremes of behavior. Technological changes are definitely sorely needed, but the money hungry business world is
slanted towards extremism, due to their "profit" motive. They will turn every good idea into a nightmare when, for example, they over produce solar cars and
homes, solar panel covered deserts, etc. Switching technologies as our next step is a horrible idea that will only cause much more damage to the environment.
That would be the last nail in our collective coffin.

@@KB-os6lh I'll mention overpopulation. see future EPA directive (1) below. The problem with "Profit = income - expenses" is that the entire environment
is on the expense part of the equation, and that includes us. Businesses want to eliminate expenses; thus, "Profit = income - expenses" is a recipe for the
destruction of the environment and all life on earth. We need a new "Global Economic Model" GEM that supports a new definition of profit. How about:
"Profit = our gratefulness and loving care for our Environment, and for the sustenance that it provides to all of us." Clearly, this definition of profit does require a new GEM.
Please bear in mind that this definition of profit does away with expenses. In nature's economy we have already been paid in full, in advance. Our job in nature is
to acquire sustenance without going into Overshoot.
The central part of the new Global Economic Model should be the EPA. EPA members will vote on the best 'Profit' definition that states sustenance
is our only actual 'gain' without which we can't live, and states that the environment is our only source of sustenance.

P.S. The EquivRate would be a 'package' that includes all of our needs: food, shelter, education, health care, etcetera. The EquivRate wouldn't be transferable as commerce.

Interesting, but I reject the impotence of our possible solutions. Past and future trajectories have followed the natural path of boom and bust that happens in any natural system. Understanding this, it is possible to change our unmanaged and chaotic ways to a managed unnatural system that is designed to be sustainable.
