We are Tony and Jane and we are living in and renovating our old Relais De Poste/Coaching Inn.
We live in the middle of France in a region called The Berry.
We have over 40 rooms to renovate so there is plenty of work to be done. We also love to trawl the local Brocantes, flea markets and antique shops for quirky furnishings and furniture.
We love to find out about local history and often visit other peoples buildings including our friends’ Chateaux.
Good news the river gone down at last Jane. Tony as the normal would not be beaten the tree . Well
done Tony. Thankyou for sharing Jane and Tony ❤
😮😢😅😅
He doesn't give up does he Annette x
@notquiteachateaudiy nope he never does 😆
Morning Jane, Ton did well cutting that tree and now for the finale in destroying the unwanted and problem causer. So pleased to see the water level down to a much safer level. All is drying out lovely, hopefully not too much rain to cause concerns again. A good idea to keep those trees away from the oven building, giving that a good chance to recover and save what can be saved. This was really a perseverance and patience playing out full. Now that is cleared, enjoy a beautiful day, do take care. Many blessings, Elize
Thanks Elize for your lovely comments, enjoy your day too x
Hi Jane and Tony, it’s great to hear you laugh again.
Tony is a man on a mission with that tree stump come he’ll or high water he is not letting that tree get the better of him. He deserves a nice cup of tea and a ciggie after all that work. 👏🏼😘🇨🇮😃
😁He really does Sheila x
Tony is relentless and indomitable! ♥️♥️♥️
Thanks Peni he is exactly that x
Loved this!! Good job, again ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much Chrissy x
Hi Jane. On another chateau channel the guy killed of tree trunks by using hot water and salt. He drilled holes in the trunk and poured the mixture down the holes. Because it’s raining so much you can cover the trunk with plastic and within a couple of weeks it dies off. If it takes a bit longer you can repeat the mixture again til it dies. It’s 1 part salt to 3 parts boiling water. It does work as I tried it recently ❤
Oh thanks for that Catherine, we'll have to try that out x
Looking much better w/out extra water from the river!
Gosh yes, such a relief Linda
So pleased to see how far the water level has dropped. 😊
It is good to see it more back to normal, thanks Marilyn x
Tony made a great job on the tree too and I hope all goes well with the bread oven fingers crossed the water keeps going down take care and see you both next time 💕🌼🤗
Fingers crossed, thanks Carole x
That tree had a mind of its own Tony was not going to let it beat him well done Tony hope you had a Beer 🍺🍺 of a cup of tea ☕
Glad the water level is back to normal 🍰☕🍰☕🍰🍻💐
Love Sue ❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
He earned his beer that day Sue x
I'm very glad you both didn't have to use the stumps as flotation devices!
Thanks Moonbeam
Epic struggle! Good thing Tony does not give up. The partial stump must weigh about 250 pounds! Maybe the part that remains could be carved into a little perch or bench.
It was very very heavy Gloria, but it still would have floated away in the flood!
Thank Heavens you must have been very very frightened I had a massive tree that nearly took the side of my house down I had it cut down but they left a massive stump I hammered piles of copper nail in it after twenty years it is gone that’s why you got cracks in your bread oven I had the same the builder laughed all the way to the bank he charged me a lot of money better doing it yourselvesxxxx
Oh dear Pat, yes these things are very expensive if you can't deal with it yourself
Tony!!!!!!! I was grunting, pushing, twisting, cursing! That was the hardest stump to get out!!!!❤❤❤❤
Hahaha Carolyn, that's your workout for today then LOL
Great plan Tony has in place for stitching the wall together in that odd corner. That tree wanted to put up a fight but it was on its way out already.
Back to post river updates 😊☀️🌊
Thanks Tony👍
I am so happy for you....what a relief for you both! I had to laugh along with you as I watched Tony trying to get that chunk of tree unstuck...unbelievable!!
😁Thanks Norma, always good to make people laugh x
BEST WISHES TO YOU
Jane you mean Superman versus tree- Tony what a job! I hope Tony had a stiff drink after that.
Glad the waters receded Jane. 🙋♀️ 😘 😘
I’ve seen people drill holes in those stumps and put salt and vinegar and I think something else solutions down the holes every few days, just a thought! Tony scares the crap out of me thank goodness he hasn’t gotten hurt yet! Good job! ✌🏻💞😊
Someone else suggested the same Lynette, thanks, gonna try this
Yay!
Hurray!
Tony won this battle with the tree. Keep that trunk as a souvenir and use it as a seat or put a planter on it.❤
Good idea Peter x
Seeing the vlog on the flooding first really gives some perspective on just how high the river got. Tony wouldve been damn near waist deep cutting that stump! 😮 Hopefully mother nature has gotten it out of the way for the next 20 odd years 🤞
I do hope you're right toots x
Well done Tony. What about burning the middle of that trunk?
Might try that too Joke
Tony is a marvel!
Thank you x
I’ve sussed it…………. You’re deliberately taking a long time Tony, to cut through that tree. To make a full long vlog 😳
I cut it and cut it and cut it (not the tree LOL)
💜💙💚
Thank you Tiamat x
Now you will have to do a new intro video maybe Patrick and Stuart can help you design one :) now that you will have a new roof in the fall and 2 new outbuildings ;) just a thought. Once the water recedes I am sure you will have more progress on your outbuildings with a bit also of repointing will help. Tony is such a hard worker just listening to your convo as he is working adding words in for you vocally Jane ;) I am glad you are practicing your French as makes me smile a lot to hear you :) maybe some miniature roses. The bark is pretty strong.
Thank you, yes I will have to think about updating our intro soon
Hallelujah. I wish you could get the bread up and fix, so you can fix bread or pizza.
We will get it up and running again at some point Raynona, that's the plan anyway x
thumbs up :) twice hehe
😁Thank you thank you
Maybe a segment cut on the side you want it to fall, would have made it easier. lol next time 🎉 well done for your perseverance 😊Tony.👍👍👍
Thanks for the tip Pamela
Jane you have one determined young man there! Nothing will beat him. I am still thinking about 40 rooms to restore. 😫😫😫
He'll love that Susie, the YOUNG man bit. Well we have done a few of those 40 rooms Susie, but still lots more to get on with!
The flooding is so upsetting. Especially the bread oven
Thanks Marilyn, we're trying to save it and nature is trying to destroy it!
It probably weighs twice as much as Tony!
Well he didn't move it until it was almost floating off when the river rose, so the flooding actually helped him to get it up the steps Helen !
No Monsieur I like my river view,
finally gone!!!!!!!
Merci Lesley-Anne x
Man versus tree, I think man won, but only with the help of women lol. Phew! I'm very glad to see the water has relented ❤
love that Cheryl, behind every good man as they say.......
Tony was not going to let the tree win 👍👍👍
Man (Tony) 1 Tree 0 , thanks Denise x
If you put salt into that trunk it will kill it Good job not falling in the river!😂
Thanks Jackie, yes we're going to try using salt
Thanks, Jane. While I do get nervous watching Tony as you do, I know he wouldn’t be a happy man without working on his projects.
He'd get very bored and drive me crazy Diana!
Carve the remaining trunk into something
with the chainsaw? LOL Monique x
That was a mammoth task well done Tony. Glad the water has gone down ❤
It was Nelle, thank you x
Hand saw. Great video. Heather
Thank you Heather x
