With a deep bow, thank you for these wonderful visuals. May the goddess bless you for caring so much to present this place to the world. It is my opinion that if there was no Eleusis, the Divine Liturgy and mysteries of the Greek/Eastern Orthodox would not exist. There is so much to uncover and remember. We have amnesia.

I'm watching this again a year later and it still is, for some reason, extremely powerful for me. I vow to visit and sit quietly in this sacred place, maybe with Demeter Herself...

Sounds to me like this is the ultimate evolution of the religious rites of which corn dollies were associated. Where the last straw of corn was twisted into a figure or shape and was the repository of the spirit of the corn. Held in a sacred place over winter, to be planted in the soil in the new year with the sowing - Persephone. I wonder if the "Venus Figurines" were also of this origin??? It would certainly be testament to the age of agriculture if so. The raising from the dead by Pluto seems to have echoes resonating through Christianity as well. Excellent video, and superb, thought provoking music.

Many years ago I watched a documentary in which a researcher traced the path of the procession. I forget the name of the documentary, but the presenter not only talked about the Eleusian Mysteries, but actually walked the entire length of the pilgrimage. It was quite the undertaking. I wish I could remember the name of the video. Can anyone help? It would have been produced in the late 80s or early 90s.

Very nice. Though no mention at all of either the fasting of the participants on the way to Eleusis or the breaking of this fast by consumption of the kykeon. Odd to be so detailed in other respects yet omit this well characterized element which even derives from the Homeric Hymn to Demeter.

So have you read the new book The Immortality Key: The Secret History of the Religion with No Name
Before the birth of Jesus, the Ancient Greeks found salvation in their own sacraments. Sacred beverages were routinely consumed as part of the so-called Ancient Mysteries - elaborate rites that led initiates to the brink of death. The best and brightest from Athens and Rome flocked to the spiritual capital of Eleusis, where a holy beer unleashed heavenly visions for two thousand years. Others drank the holy wine of Dionysus to become one with the god.
      Enjoy the new insights.

Excellent video! It gives me a better idea of what went on during this particular festival. However, I notice that you didn't mention the part where the people brought suckling pigs and where they bathed themselves and the piglets in the Bay of Eleusis as an act of purification. Also, didn't the mystery-goers have to pay some type of monetary fee to the sanctuary? I read that about that somewhere.

Greeks had have similar calendar than Hindus have still today ?? Every month is celebration and cities have their specific festivals during year, then is every three and every 12 years etc deferred feasts, Hindus calendar contains also what to eat and sacrifice, not eat. Keep people busy. Vacations weren't invented :)
Then is personal celebrations. PLUS weddings, funerals, child birth, initiations, namings .... really busy city life.
