    Can you select a particular frame in the VDB's animation and remove the other frames?....like for example a VDB file of nuclear explosion - you only need the one frame where the mushroom cloud is showing not the initial detonation. I only need "still images/frames" for illustration purposes and not the actual animation.

      This is obviously quite old, but if you are still interested in an answer, you can simply import just that one file as a volume

    the vdb looks so bad in viewport how can i raise the resolution plz.

    You need to set the tile size in the performance section of the render engine tab to 256 or 512 when rendering with the gpu

      This feels like more of a performance improvement tip, but not a necessity...

      @@TheCGEssentials there's a right way of doing things and a wrong way. Many of your viewers will have weaker gpus than you and the extra render time will be frustrating and could make them give up. Also when it comes to animation which many of your viewers are interested in, it could mean DAYS of wasted render time. The earth is not flat, dinosaurs were not put here by god to test us. Man up and do the right thing instead of whining like a baby, excuses are for pussies!

    I enjoyed the tut, but have a of question. The VDB files seem to be huge and for the tut example it seems that we could have used the Blender manta flow to do the same job almost as quickly. I can see where with complex scenes VDB gives you a jump start. What should you consider when you choose VDB import vs Blender.

      So first of all - not going to claim to be an expert in this area - that being said, I think that some tools, like EmberGen or Houdini are really known for their volumetric simulations, and probably create them better than Blender's tools, even with Manta Flow. This gives you the ability to use those specialized tools to create effects that can then be brought into Blender, which also expands the kinds of things you can make in Blender.

      The main attraction is saving time. Baking simulations with Mantaflow can really take a LONG time...the Embergen workflow bypasses this step so you can go straight to shading and rendering.

      More accurately it uses GPU for a lot of its calculations which is a ton more efficient

    Ive seen dozens of blender vdb import videos and this has never ever worked not once. I import the VDB and create a shader and BAM nothing . i increase blackbody intensity and guess what? NOTHING. Invisible in any mode. The VDB was downloaded from embergen and openvdb. I can never see it.
    Is it because I have an AMD processor? Im giving up on VDBs. Its been 6 months of failure.

      For me, every damn explosion is really blocky and ugly, unrealistic inside Blender, I've always tried to make a good explosion but no, they're wonky, unrealistic and ugly. I use cycles, render resolution doesn't change a thing, vdbs don't change anything too.

  • @maxplusmillion3d
    @maxplusmillion3d 4 роки тому

    Is there a reason why you didn't render using "adaptive sampling" in cycles?

      Seems like motion blur in Cycles. Why is that? makes me render not as interesting! Unfortunate! Let me know if you find a way around this! Appreciate it
