I like the concept, I’ve heard of some people having issues with the products and then having more issues with customer service. Good to see you haven’t had any bad luck!
I have seen one guy on Facebook saying something about a defective unit, but haven't seen much else in terms of negative on these. Hopefully just an anomaly and the majority are quality without issues. 👍
Alex, really enjoyed your thorough coverage and explanation in your video which was very well done. I just placed an order with Amazon for the 9K btu heater to use in my golf cart, so I will bypass the tilt mechanism when it arrives. Thanks for helping me make up my mind.
I live in a state people are claiming is home base like there labeling it some kind of base or something . For some wild idea trial thing people haven't been able to get heat or electric for the whole entire winter time and it has dropped to -15 degree range few times so always good to check out these great ideas for alternative heating since some people have been unable to get heat or electric.
Most other heaters say to use a filter(keep out oils from propane 1 lb. cyl/hose breakdown) or regulated hose from a larger tank. I am wondering if these heat hogs need a filter or are they regulated at the unit?
Mr heater big buddy (18,000 BTU) show better numbers on paper, I own one and never had a problem with it, the double tank capacity is a wonderful feature, I must say ,some of the features on the heat hog 18,000 are great and I wish mr heater had them but I rather have double the running time than electric ignition.
I'm thinking of replacing my Mr Buddy heater that I primarily use in my shop. Lately the Pieozoelectric starter has been giving me fits, not igniting the pilot. Checked all the lines with a full 20 lb tank still no go. So I'm thinking of upgrading and the Heat Hog 18K looks like a good choice/heater. Thank you for this review... Peter
The heat hog has WAY better reviews on Amazon than the Mr Heater. I’ve had nothing but problems with the Mr Heater Little Buddy, and I used the recommended Mr Heater with a 20 lb tank. I don’t understand how my propane water heater and my propane barbecue..what’s with they can’t make a dependable space heater. There are SO many Utube videos about people having problems with Mr Heater units. So Amazon reviews and Utube indicate the Heat Hog is better. My Mr Heater plugged up or something last night and after big popping sound, it caught on fire out the grill and out of the area above the the non removable inlet filter or regulator, whatever that bulb thing is where you connect the propane.
don't know, but it sounds like your buddy heater have a problem with the anti-tilt switch. it seems to be common with the buddy heaters. I have mine connected to a 20lbs tank and it wont light.. the pilot comes on but the burners don't. I found it was the MR.HEATER hose. it won't work. I tried a different brand hose and it works fine.
I noticed the tops of the grates have the curved pieces. Possibly to discourage using it to heat things up? Would be convenient to have a flat top to the grate to set a kettle or something
Is there enough clearance underneath the back panel for a hose connection to pass through or do you have to keep the back panel off the entire time to properly use a hose connection?
I have a big buddy heater and the dagum thing won’t stay lit! How do these preform in the wind? My big buddy won’t even stay lit in my garage…(doors closed) but works perfect in my house. Brand new 1 lbs tank. Thinking of getting the large heat hog as I’m usually bringing a 20lbs tank anyhow. When I run and gun I’m just outside and use my shack as home base. Then if I find a new spot ill move the shack
Doo you know on the 9000 Heater - On the 20lb hose - do you need a regulator to hook up to it on not - I see the hose they recommend does not have a regulator on it like the hose for the 18K heater - I am confused if it is needed why didn't they just recommend the heater hose with the regulator on it thanks Great Video
I might do a comparison video in the future to other competition, but this was focused on showcasing the 3 new heaters Heat Hog came out with and the unique features they have on them. Up to you if you think they are worth it or not. Lots of good stuff out there. These 3 I have used and recommend in different scenarios based off what you are trying to do. I primarily use these heaters when out ice fishing so a couple things that have me wanting to use these over any other heaters out there is the tilting design: a lot less heat hitting the ice causing a pool of water, the fold down handle: get it out of the way of the heat so it doesn't melt - my other heaters have had this issue, wide open back: easy to clean & maintain rather than needing to unscrew a million plastic pieces to get to stuff, Heavy duty grills: they are built strong and can take a bit of roughness without snapping into pieces (like some other brands I have used). Let me know if you have a specific question or specific brands you are hoping to have them compared to and I can look into it!
I appreciate your comparo's of these portable heaters. Can you compare these next to the mr. Heaters? I got the portable buddy and am on the fence about that 9k heat hog. I just need to be as most compacts as possible. Thnx.
You have done reviews on both the buddy heaters and the Heat Hogs now. now that this review is a couple years old and you have used both products if you had to choose between the big buddy and the Heat hog which heater would you choose? have you had any issues with your heat hogs since this review?
I will be putting out a comparison video with now using both plus the Flame King brand for a few years. If I could only have one, I would go with the big buddy heater bang for the buck, but the Heat Hog is a close second. Each has pros and cons
Heat Hog only specifies that the heaters should work with no issue to 2,000 FT, above which you may run into the heater not burning as bright or sporadically shut off due to the lower levels of oxygen. I would say your somewhat reliable zone is probably the same as other heaters with similar components and reliance on oxygen which is up to roughly 7,000 FT.
Wish they would build a fan into the unit that would be prolly the best portable heater on the market if they added a rechargeable battery pack and fan just saying
I just bought the big unit as emergency heat for the bedroom/bathroom. However, now I want to go ice fishing with a Youper while drinking Labatt’s. Or, I’ll just watch ice fishing videos, ya, doncha know.
the 18k holding a 2nd tank isn't a bonus. first tank will always start cold anyway and spare tanks will heat up with ambient tent temperature before the first tanks empty. If anything it could be riskier if anything went wrong. it would've been better if they both just socketed in
Isn't there anyway to use a 20 pound tank on the big units. I know Mr Heater's Big Buddy heaters and even the Lil' Buddy can be hooked to a big tank with a hose and filter.
Heat floats up so your toe theory is compromised it's better to warm your toes if the Heat's going to go up anyway the heat don't stay down at the bottom with a heater buddy but I'm sure that tilt would come in handy for other things like structures being in the way and needing to angle it
Once you dig a bit deeper into how they are built and the features I have found they didn't just copy another brand, but added some useful features to the established functionality of the portable propane heater. Buddy Heaters are great and I use them, but there are differences for sure
@@AlexTimm Since you have used Buddy Heater before, why can you show the advantage of this one over Buddy Heater in the first place? And the the prices of this new units are way over priced than Buddy Heaters. What a waste ~~
@wholesome == 猴神 Buddy heaters are garbage and tons of them explode every year. So for an extra $20 if I don't have to quit ice fishing because the heater has quit working and my hands are freezing or my ice hub is up in flames I think its worth it.
That seems like a great feature but I do wonder how long the gas valve would last being opened and closed repeatedly and if there are any safety implications.
All these heaters are too hot I stay in the Chevy van I have to get up every couple of hours and turn it off then an hour later turn it back on I can never get any sleep they're all too hot don't they make a little one it'll also use a lot less propane I'm going through four bottles a night might be cheaper to stay in a hotel
I will never understand why all these portable heaters, all different brands and styles, Don't come with carry bags. Or even really have them available. Especially for the ice fishing crowd. They get covered in snow, ice, mud in sleds and truck beds. Lots of little things that could be kept together in a case (hoses, cooking grates, spare propane tanks, small assortment of tools if it breaks, lighters, a small fan, ect) lots of stuff comes with a carry bag that just gets tossed. These seem like they should and it would actually be useful.
Honestly, if I'm bringing a heater of this size out, I'm going to be running it off of a 5, 10, or 20 lb. tank. I dislike running any of these bigger heaters off of 1lb. cylinders. You spend too much time changing cylinders for my liking, and they aren't all that cheap anymore.
@@mushroomcapd11975 I'm not saying the big tank isn't convenient but the big buddy holds 2 one pound bottles and one you're running and gunning and moving your shack every 10 min or so the hose and bigger tank is heavy and bulk 2 one pound bottles last all day if you're not running it on high and I refill the little ons for cheap off a big 20lb tank
