Lyrics:
Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence

Sound of silence by Paul solo..... I never.... NEVER thought I would hear this. He nailed it.
I was fortunate to be in the crowd that night. Spine tingling, crowd sang along like a hushed prayer.
"..the crowd that night...sang along like a hushed prayer." - your words, sheer poetry...wow.. as good as the song
What could it possibly be like to be Paul Simon . . . the voice of a generation . . . with the crowd singing along with his anthem?
One of the greatest ever. A man and a guitar, nothing else. No special effects, no laser show etc. This will never die!
Best of bests
Hopefully not 👌👍💪
You can see in his eyes he feels every note of the music.
And what a guitar.
We were all psyched to see a concert of Johnnie Rivers at the University of Florida but then we hear Johnnie couldn’t come. We had to see a replacement group that none of us had ever heard of with a weird name. Simon and Garfunkel. They opened their mouths on the first song and we all wondered Johnnie who? I’m 78 now and have seen so many wonderful concerts in all kinds of venues but I will never forget this one.
Queria ter vivido isso . 🙄
the most authentic Paul Simon I ever heard
OH!!!....
One of the best songs ever written
Yes.❤️🎵
It really is brilliant
Respect
R.I.P.
The way he sang it this time is different and it just gets better as it ages... he sang it with so much sorrow... regrets of past mistakes... sadness of the enough time that he hasn't spent with the ppl he loved... he sang it with all the beautiful memories from the past... he sang with a great hope for a better future... but mostly he sang it to heal his own soul before entertaining any of the audience... this is how legend artists performs.. this song is eternal gold.. respect ❤
83 years today. Happy Birthday, Mr. Paul Simon!
The longevity of The Sound Of Silence is phenomenal. Sounds as fresh today as it did in 60s when it was released. Awesomeness.😊
The message screams as loud then as it does now.....
@@dustywelchcraneman6614 shouldn't that be the other way around 🤦🏻♂️
Fenomenal. Chalo Lagrange (Rosario/Argentina).-

@dot suk As a Mental Health Nurse, to me this song, with it's first line of "Hello, darkness my old friend" is about chronic depression but, ultimately hope. So beautiful.
It doesn't take too much listening to hear the true genius/talent of Simon and Garfunkel.
After 55 years, you can still make me cry...
Paul Simon always looks as if he knows what everyone is thinking.
Thanks. We all love and respect Paul Simon. I hope he is well and happy and still writing wonderful songs.
CONGRATULATIONS Simon for 8 decades. We love you a lot here in Brazil. Thanks.
Truth!
The Sound of Silence is such a classic, it never seems to get old or outdated, if anything it gets better every year.
LOL I was thinkin the same thing and laughed when I saw this.
“Hello, darkness, my old friend”
Goosebumps. Best opening line ever. And he sings it like he’s really saying hello to darkness
His most creative space was in the bathroom with the light off. True story. It's where the lyric came from.😂
Genius. Simply genius. That’s Paul Simon.
Yes, we are all getting older and older...but the music is always the same.
So true xxx❤❤
There are few artists that produced a body of work like Paul. Very few.
🩵🎵
Leonard Cohen
@@garymurray8903 of course and a few others. Paul tried a lot of different stuff. Anyway, Leonard is a giant.
Bob Dylan
A man, a guitar, a voice, a great tune, fantastic lyrics and the world says yes
You Are True Legend Mr Simon
This does not get old! Ever! Love you Paul Simon! Legend!
legend is alive
Paul Simon...a True Legend!
The way the crowd sing along. Brilliant from start to finish. What a talent.
I wish I knew why but I'm always in tears every time I listen to this
Without a doubt one of the best american song-writers of all times, if not the best! Paul Simon is a treasure of humanity. Thank you for all the tunes
Oswaldo Lafee so ur willing to say that Paul Simon is a better song writer than Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Prince, Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, James Taylor, Willie Nelson, Billie Joel, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Nicks/Lindsey Buckingham, Neil Diamond, Michael Jackson, Brian Wilson and Carol King? I’m a huge fan of Paul Simon but to put him at the front of the line in front of all of these people would be an insult. I’m sure a few of these, Paul Simon would say he wasn’t better than.
Ben Vasilinda not really, I think he’s right. Paul Simon is a GREAT song writer, DEFINITELY one of the greats of our time, no insult to anyone saying that, it’s called a compliment. So wind your neck in
Nobody ever says the name of the actual best songwriter of all time, Elliot Smith
Other than classical composers, has anyone ever contributed more to music than this man? He will be a legend for hundreds of years.
The Beatles.
@@jasonmarques1480 that men...not man
Yes the Beatles
@@manny4552 Which man? I said man.
@@justliveandletlive yes you said who would equal this man meaning Simon . I gave you my example
Imagine writing a song this good.
Paul this was and is the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard, your message still rings true today. Much love Jules
This is what live music is all about... How the singer is feeling and how the crowd knows..
The older they get, the better they are. A legendary performer.
Je t'aime Paul !
Better than the original ! Paul Simon was and still is a wonderful artist !
I was there with my son !!! WONDERFUL ! Thanks Paul !!!
Paul Simon, I don't wanna leave this world without see you sing this out of this world song. You are the greatest.
I can listen to the song ten times a day every day and still get chills every time
WOW. IM BREATHLESS. 50 years later, and this? I can’t breathe.
Beautiful!
It's amazing how the crowd sings as one. You can hear them follow the rhythms and melody from the studio recording even when Simon changes his up a little. Speaks to how memorable the song is.
Good point. But I honestly despise when crowds sings a song. I get that it's hard not to sing along, and every once and a while it's enhances the performance, but it's actually one the dumbest (using cruel language for effect) things ever. Why in god's name are you paying to see an artist but not actually listen to him. Why would you shout and jam-out to the sound of silence. I'd rather hear a pin drop than a bunch hoodlems sing along. Take the music in! (again, speaking bluntly for effect, and willing to discuss further, but I feel strongly about this)
@@123456pfloyd I think they feel compelled to sing along. I probably wouldn't be able to control myself from humming along.
@Garnet Tanner - I would too!! And I do sing, at least from time to time at a show. But I cannot stand when the entire audience sings the song word for word. At a certain point, you're not listening to the artist. Yea I understand that you could say, "by singing the song, we are apart of the music," but I didn't work effortlessly for years and years to create the song (if I did, I'd be on stage). I attend the show to listen to experience the art, not create it. The first time I became very annoyed was at a Roger Waters concert in Quebec: 20,000 people shouting the lyrics; during the intermission, 2 people from the city noted that many people don't even understand the lyrics (being French). We couldn't hear the artist over the audience! Everyone wants to grab the hanging fruit, but you must do so at the right time.
Actually thought the crowd should shut the hell up! if there is any tune to be quiet and listen its that one! But beer and all eh; what can you do. Good times for sure! AWESOME ;-)
@@123456pfloyd You're absolutely right. Also, an effect that's really annoying is when a crowd sings, each one person probably has a terrible voice, but collectively, you get it right.
Also, doesn't it kind of annoy you to hear the choir sing it properly and Paul Simon sing it with way too many changes to the song?
Wonderful.
Thank you so much my dear friend.
God bless you and your family too.

Dear Paul, thank you for defying the sounds of silence 👏. I’m in awe.
You know it is great music when it only takes three-four notes to recognize the tune !
I loved this song fifty years ago and I still love it.
One of the greatest musical achievements humanity has to show. Just that

@Paul Simon lol. 😂
How is it "his cover" lol he wrote it
A cover is when you do your own version of someone else's song. This is simply a performance, and a beautiful one at that!
WITH PAUL SIMON, FOREVER . THE BEST
Very powerful. Moved me to tears.
Paul has such a knack for making it look easy (when it's not). This song is still as haunting and relevant as ever. He is such a brilliant song writer, lyricist and musician.
Bravo...long leave...thank you somuch Paul..
Beautiful.
It's like he has a conversation with the song itself. it's meaning, his personal history with it and the numerus versions that are out there of it.
Thanks Mr. Paul Simon
Even almost everyone there can sing and sings this song.
Paul still sings all song, he wouldn’t do such thing like put mic to all audiences.
He is really the best performer.
The best song that I have heard in my life.

Studied the lyrics of this song in class some 50 years ago, It has stayed with me, haunted me and continues to give me meaning half a century on. It reveals significance with every visitation. That, is art!
This song will never fade..!!
It's a sound that is planted in my brain which sometimes i sing it silently in my heart.
Even money can bring them together. But Paul is the genius behind them. And we all know that.

Absolutely beautiful

The song is still remains in my mind.
A legendary song
Greats artists !
