“You’re faster than this. Don’t think you are, know you are.” -Morpheus
I think all fencers can relate to this video. We’re never as fast as we think we should because we just aren’t putting our hands where they need to be, we are too busy trying to put our hands where we want them to be. Economy of motion and using pattern recognition is the way to get faster, not trying to push the limit of reaction time.

Crazy valuable. people often say i'm a fast fencer but I don't really know how to explain why. It was something I had innately that i couldn't break down, but I wanted to lean into and clean up; and this video put me on a good direction. Thanks !

This was a very informative video. I hope you do more in this format. I would really appreciate a video like this on offline footwork and triangle steps. Keep up the good work!

    Interesting sidenote on example 3.
Your opponent made you push your hands towards your hip. He doesn't simply just parry in Ochs, he winds into it and pressures you with a little cut into Ochs(his short edge might even make contact with your upper arm). This forces you to push your hands down, which robs you a tempo, opens you up and propeles his sword even faster.
It's a picture perfect example of Lichtenauer fencing by connecting two attacks without losing the Vor.
Sometimes fast fencing is about controlling the opponents pattern.

Really good stuff. It really dosen't matter if you fence saber or longsword, this still applies.

2:50 same side counter is also a classic when throwing hands

interesting foot work on both of you. it seems like a south paw vs orthadox styles. wow you did the boxing counter to his jab or stab.

"Every time you parry on the outside" This is a bit confusing. Inside and outside exists for single handed weapons, but how does it translate to two handed ones?

Its based on your dominant hand, same as with one handed weapons
