RTL is one of the biggest and richest broadcasting companies in Europe. They're a private company, they just act as a public broadcaster because of a recent agreement with the Luxembourger government, so they're not bound by any budget regulations or anything. That's why the selection show was grand like that, even though Luxembourg only has a population of about 600k.
I think it is also because Luxembourg is generally rich; by GDP per capita, it is also richer than any of the big five each. we are talking about 100,000++ euros for Luxembourg compared to maybe a max of 50,000 euros for Germany (slightly less in other big 5 countries).
This whole national final was basically Luxembourg telling us "we have money and you don't!" Also several past winners performed (Vicky Leandros performed her 1967 song with Alexander Rybak playing violin) and all the LESC contestants sang Lux 1965 and Waterloo together. Luxembourg definitely wants that 6th win soon (it's very likely not Fighter tho)
"I buy a lot of expensive things because I have a lot of money. You can't afford expensive things because you don't have a lot of money." - Jon Lajoie, "I Kill People"
that with the violin was even a suprise for Vicky Leandros. It was a spontanous idea from Alexandre Rybak (maybe already did it already in rehearsals to have a little joy on stage)
I really love this entry! The girl clearly can sing and has sass! The French part is what I really wanted Luxembourg to send! It’s like a combination of Cyprus’s efforts with a French song and the muscle dance is iconic! This is a girl bop and this year is definitely going to have a LOT of girl bops in the semi finals. I've heard Malta’s song and I can already tell you is a girl bop but Talli’s song is a LOT more original than that! It’s not trying to be the next Chanel, instead give us a different French flavour that I am here for! Currently my number two! If Talli moved around more and controlled her breathing a bit better this would be my winner! However, this performance was done at the end of January, so there’s still PLENTY of time to perfect this by May. I can easily see this going through! The song is quite hard to sing so props to her for keeping up especially on the French sections!
For a first entry since the early 90s, this is fairly decent. I'm not sure it will stand out too much once we have the full lineup for this year but I don't mind it at all.
Videos are great as always Rach, love hearing your analysis. This is a cool entry! The Post-Chorus is so cool, like it’s spiralling out, with control though… well executed. some Holly Valance/Liberty X vibes, with the singer reminding me of the Latin Artist, Emilia, a little looks-wise but vocal timbre definitely…
this is my top favourite of the Luxembourgish selection, and I am happy that it wins. a seamless blend of French and English (Frenglish or Franglais) and catchy instrumentation, even though it is a sound heard many times before.
This song is a total bop! Probably my favorite this year so far. I can tell Luxembourg wanted to make a strong return this year. My favorite part is when she sings a descending harmonic minor scale (j'avoue, j'avoue, je sais pas). It's really musically interesting because the notes constitute the F# minor scale, but she starts and ends at C# (and skips the E#/F in the scale). Little musical details like that really tickle my ears.
This is interesting. I'm currently have a back-and-forth with somebody on Reddit who is telling me that "Fighter" is 15 to 20 years too late to Eurovision. I prefer the way you phrased it, though, when you said there was something nostalgic about it. The odd thing to me, however, is that I can't hear anything particularly dated in either the songwriting, production, or arrangement, but I guess his point is that we can't get pop at Eurovision anymore unless it sounds like it came from the Swedish radio hit machine? Personally, "Fighter" and "La noia" are in a virtual tie for my favorite pop songs this year and they're both amongst my favorite songs of everything this year, and neither one is something I'd expect to hear on... I don't know... US radio. That's a good thing from my perspective.
I think the old school bangra production is what reminds some listeners of Turkey and Greece in the early 2000s, and also the UK with Javines "touch my fire". It's in that style but without the more schlager elements some of those songs had back then.
@@Rik77 I mean, maybe you're right, because I've seen a lot of people make this critique, but I always loved what countries like Turkey and Greece were sending back then and I've missed that sort of content from Eurovision. It doesn't feel like something that's old to me; more like something from which we were just taking a break. Well, in any event, I enjoy it.
i can't work out if you're a generous listener or if i'm harsh, lol. this is a solid 6/10 for me but i'm just so delighted to have them back after 30 years. also if you have time then you should totally react to the benidorm fest entries, melodi grand prix was pretty good too though they really crank that autotune. look forward to more reactions!!
I like it. It’s a good song and it’s not a bad performance. I would think this can qualify. Is it innovative or a standout in any way? Not really. But I do enjoy it. Not a winner… but I am still glad it’s there. The lack of breath control is a little distracting for me - but I can live with it if I have to. A fine return to the contest.
When I saw the photo of Tali on Instagram, I hoped this would be a good song. And then it turns out it's just a Euro-bop pop song with nothing to really elevate it above others of a similar nature. I have admit I'm disappointed by it, but then I'm not the European voting public, who may well love it. And I think Luxembourg deserve to qualify for the final on their return.
Honestly I don't see this song going through to the finals - but what do I know? I am older than most Eurovision fans! I have been following Melodifestivalen and have not been impressed so far ): Hoping there will be a real winner in the later heats... Spending time this morning watching ThePeaceAround videos and getting ready for MALMO!!! (:
Interesting to see that several earlier reactions of colleague vloggers mentioned the breathing problems but you obviously wasn’t disturbed by it. Any thoughts about this?
Welcome back, southern pals and fellow microstate! I've always wondered what a Luxembourgian return would entail, since I wasn't even born when they last took part, and I gotta say, they've hit the ground running. I too feel it's very nostalgic, but still very modern (the lyrics especially). Nicely picked I'd say! Plus - we will also have our first ever Lux televote. So it's exciting stuff all round.
Please react to Spain’s entry… she does not have the best voice, but the whole act is a ton of fun. Also, she is an unknown singer and this is her first time on the spotlight. 🙏🫶❤️ also the message of the song is about female empowerment.
Hello Rachel I am Missing your Maneskin reactions… If you have not listened to the newest from Rush album, could you do TRASTEVERE , Valentine and “the driver”?
I really wanted them to select Krick so bad but that’s not why I don’t like the song as for me its too much bubblegum and fo me its too easily forgettable, its a shame because I really wanted to get behind Luxembourg and sadly I can’t 🇱🇺🇱🇺🇱🇺
I mean the song is good but not really special (especially compared to Krick), so probably bottom 5 in the final? I'm still sad, that Krick with Drowning in the rain haven't won, such an fantastic song (favorit song from this nf season so far).

The choreographer is Mor hamami. She did also Unicorn choreography last year
Yes I can see the familiarity with unicorn performance!

Luxembourg is in our semi, I will vote for it. I love this song ❤

Yes!! I can see what you mean there, really nice 😊
Such a good job as a vocalist. It's a really really hard song to sing and there's not a backing track supporting vocal to be heard. Really good
I hope you react to some of the Benidorm entries next; you'd LOVE Dos Extraños
Structure of this song is good
I agree with the reggaton reference and I’d imagine a Chanel production if she did reggaeton. Welcome Back 🇱🇺 Bienvenue encore un fois le Luxembourg

Looking forward to your next reactions! We also have Ukraine now 😉
Will you react to the revamp? It Is so good!
you have to watch waterloo performed by all the finalist of the luxembourgish finals. it is goose bumbing
and one little fun fact, Tali got her winning trophy from the former entry of 1993 for Luxembourg
Guess who produce this ? Durdust, same for angelina mango song 😍🇮🇹

It's growing on me but I'll never get over with Krick's losing in NF, with right staging that would be such an epic return by Luxembourg 😥
Malta reaction?? Luxembourg is back! And they are decent
I'm so excited to hear what you think of Ukraine!
I like it. It’s a good song and it’s not a bad performance. I would think this can qualify.

I don’t think it was too obvious, I thought she controlled it quite well

They probably should've ended the song like that cause the actual ending which you paused before is really clunky imo.
I need your reaction to Spain 🦊

Krick was overhyped as was many fan favourites this year
Polished? But not a word of Polish was sung. _ba dum tss_
hahaha
😂😂
The song gets boring fast... Before its even over. Like the guitar though.
