  • A demonstration video created by Performance Garage & Davies Craig on our Electric Water Pump (EWP) and Digital Controller. We also highlight the various EWP's available in the rage including the EWP80, EWP115 Nylon and EWP115 Alloy. We also discuss our latest product, the EWP Header-Adaptor Kit and its applications. The video concludes with an actual demonstration of the EWP and Digital Controller in application.
    Why the power the EWP uses is much less than the mechanical pump
    The EWP is designed for maximum efficiency at its maximum speed of 2250 rpm. Being in nylon, the impeller can have aerofoil cross section with associated lift, and the tip clearances can be very small. The mechanical pump has to run at 600 rpm and 6,000 rpm and it cannot be efficient at both those speeds and all speeds in between. Furthermore, as the power the pump takes increases as the cube of the speed - when the mechanical pump is operating at the higher speeds, as it does as an engine passes through its gears, it is taking power of the order of 6 to 10 kW. The EWP which uses say at maximum speed 9 amps x 13 volts gives 120 watts at say 30% efficiency from the alternator to hydraulic power means about 0.4 kW to drive the EWP, when it is operating at full speed which is usually less than 20% of racing time.
    In addition, with the old mechanical pump and a thermostat set up, the thermostat is partly closed most of the motoring time and in a cool climate at highway cruising, it is always about 90% closed. As a consequence, the flow and pressure being generated by the mechanical belt driven pump and paid for with power and torque, are choked at the thermostat and wasted. This system has worked reasonably well for a long time but it is not smart. With your EWP and digital Controller, power and torque is never wasted as there is no choking (no thermostat) and only as much flow and pressure as is required is produced.
    We are starting to see the allowance of EWPs in formula racing mostly to prolong the life of engines with the run on after hot shut down to eliminate heat soak. In any case we cannot stop progress, nobody in racing runs drum brakes or cross ply tyres these days!!

    So when installing this using the PWM system, I will remove the existing thermostat?

    Can you run this full tilt using a simple on off switch?
    If so what is the recommended run time using water sub 30 degrees celsius?

    My cars ecu controls the fans. With the proper relays,and sender wire the pump into my system? Thank you for the reply

    With regards to the comment below, I was under the impression that the mechanical drag created by the alternator generally isn't impacted by amperage/voltage requirements (with the exception of moments at idle/low RPMs, if the ECU finds it necessary to increase the RPMs to assist in providing the necessary voltage): For most of the time, the voltage produced is a function of the current applied to the magnetic field, either via voltage regulators or more recently, the ECU, and mechanical drag isn't impacted one way or another, as the rotation of the alternator is usually more than enough to create the necessary voltage provided the correct amount of current is applied to the magnetic field. Is this not correct?
    Either way, I really like your water pumps. Hope to purchase a few for myself one of these days.

    just the motor is brushed motor, if it can use BLDC motor, the efficiency will be much higher, it means much lower power consumption...

    Can these be used on a daily driven engine as an intercooler pump with pwm control to extend the life and not need to run full speed all the time?

    • @DaviesCraigPtyLtd
      @DaviesCraigPtyLtd  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, they are often used in daily drivers as directly replacement for the old outdated mechanical water pump. They are also used extensively in intercooler applications especially in the USA. Our digital controller can manage the follow of the pump whilst often intercooler applications might use a time switch.

      @@DaviesCraigPtyLtd Glad I found this comment. I will be ordering it now. Need it for intercooler application in Canada :)
      What I cannot find is how noisy is the unit? I know many racers do not care about noise. But this is a offroad trail vehicle. I do want minimal noise. The music in the video makes it hard to hear but it sounds very quiet.

    keep in mind the E-waterpump use electricity from the alternator which will produce drag same as a belt driven pump!!! because its the "law of physic"

    • @Dollsofgod
      @Dollsofgod 6 років тому +2

      Yes but the thing is a belt driven pump is moving coolant 100% of the time the engine is on, even if the engine doesn't need to be cooled. with an electric pump you can control the cooling process more accurately vs belt driven.

    • @einzelmotorsport6711
      @einzelmotorsport6711 6 років тому +2

      Not the same drag since you need an alternator anyways. Its not like the alternator will have the same drag as a waterpump over the 10a extra it has to produce for the elec pump. You'll just drop a little bit in voltage

    • @mihaiilie8808
      @mihaiilie8808 5 років тому +2

      Einzel Motorsport your right.the alternator is producing electricity even if its not used .And this pump its a brushless pump ,verry efficient as it looks and impossible to damage .

      What if it was powered by a seperate battery in the boot, like one of those externally rechargeable lithium batteries, a "lithiumax" ? And the electric fans as well? I'm interested to increase the hp/torque performance of my bf falcon without boosting and came by these pumps by way of researching electric fans (I got told not to bother using them) I also wanted to run a harmonic balancer but got told like everything else that it taxes the altenator "it's not worth modifying a n/a barra" "leave it stock" Stronger altenator or seperate power source? A lithiumax battery can save up to 5kw drag on the altenator (so they say) No one uses these batteries because they are "pricey" but they can last over twice as long as a regular battery. Between electric fans, e water pump and harmonic balancer there is a considerable drag taken off the engine for a n/a engine
      "Not worth it"? Neither is a cheap Chinese turbo. What that pump looks like

    Please delete the background music.... It does not allow for a very good understanding to the words being spoken, therefore It is not a worthy example of displaying the information you wish to portray.
    I would like very much to be able to understand what is being spoken not a bunch of background noise,
    Thank you,
