The most amazing thing to me about this song is how Curry uses his voice to make you FEEL what his character feels. This is one of the few songs that genuinely gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it, that amazing combination of elation, regret and fear of the unknown...... just hits me everytime
After over 300 (yes, 300) viewings, this song hits me everytime. My friends and I had bets about who would view this movie the most. It was the midnight movie when I was in high school. I still watch it occasionally now and still get my kicks from it. Don't dream it, be it!
I think Tim Curry is an often overlooked and underrated actors. Frank'n'Furter, Pennywise, Doctor Petrov on Red October (among many others) are such different characters and he did all of them brilliantly.
Wow!!! Shocked at this one! My favorite song from the movie! It’s always overlooked when people talk about this movie. It’s the last one I’d expect a reactor to react to. That’s why I love this channel!
I've never really been able to pick ONE song, in this entire movie... they're all so specific to movement of the movie. It's easy to fall into the ones everyone else knows, but for me, they're all stand alone.
In Austin TX they've been playing RHPS every Friday night at midnight since 1976. The theater that hosted it longest had a mountain of dead reels they wore out over the years.
When the multiplexes tried to force the independent cinemas out of business in Australia, I know of one cinema that had a print of RHPS that was 18 minutes shorter than the original because no distributors would sell them a new one.
The same in France with the Studio Galande in Paris. 2 sessions of the movie, every friday and saturday night since 40 years ! This is the last european theatre to do this.
In the mid-80s (I think), there was a double LP of the whole film soundtrack with audience participation. So when Tim sings "'cos I've seen...." My mind automatically summons the phrase" Brad naked "
Omg that is hilarious! I would have died hearing that live 🤣 It reminds me of Billy Idols "Mony Mony", during his live shows when he can cuss he changes the lyrics by adding a chorus of cusses between the lines of the song 🤣 "Here she come now singing Mony Mony *HEY MOTHERF*CKER GET LAID GET F*CKED!* Well, shoot ’em down, turn around, come on Mony *HEY MOTHERF*CKER GET LAID GET F*CKED!* Hey she give me love and I feel alright now *HEY MOTHERF*CKER GET LAID GET F*CKED!"* It is always the best song during his show because everyone losses their minds knowing that part is coming, especially for those of us who have been to a few of his shows. It is hard to sing it now without all the MFers in there 🤣
As a boy, seeing Pirates of Penzance for the first time, It was my dream to become a musical theater performer. Sadly whilst I didn't achieve that, I did manage to become my next choice.... an accountant.
Great video! This is one of my favorite Rocky Horror songs and it brings back such great memories. I played Dr. Scott and, when needed, the Criminologist in a RHPS shadowcast for a few years back in the mid to late '90s and I'm Going Home was always my favorite part of the night because, after having a pretty large role for the second half of the show, I finally just got to sit back and watch from one of the best seats in the house, Also, thanks for the insight into musical theater. I have to admit that I'm someone who made a lot of those common assumptions about musical theater performers, but now I realize that a lot of it came from seeing quite a bit of community theater in college, not from seeing it on a professional level.
Back in early mid-1990s I was a 14 year old aspiring actor in the Atlanta theater scene. I would often usher at a professional theater in town called The Theatrical Outfit. This particular season they decided to do the Rocky Horror Show, the actual stage play. I had gotten familiar with many of the staff including the director of the show and he told me a few days before opening that they were having trouble keeping the chorus, the transylvanians, in line (they didn't like the fact that their parts were basically chorus parts) . So I suggested (at 14 in a professional theater) that the ushers Also play the Chorus. He loved the idea but didn't see it possibly coming together due to having to train the ushers, which typically change daily, what their parts would actually be. I was at the time going to a performing arts school in Atlanta and the next day suggested it also to a few of my friends and my drama director. And they loved the idea. So two days before the opening of the show I got together about 10 of my buddies and fellow classmates, took them down to the theater to sign up as ushers for the entire run of The Rocky Horror Show. The director was over the moon and blocked us all in that afternoon . Though we didn't get paid, many of my classmates got the opportunity to perform on a professional stage for the entire 4 week run of the show (it had been extended). And a funny bonus, RuPaul, who was from Atlanta was cast and played Riff Raff (this was pre-national fame by about 4 years)... he was a Freak, in a good way. The paper wrote that the show was fantabulous, the cast was awesome and she was mega surprised that the kid who showed her to her seat ended up on stage, singin' and dancin'.
I still remember the first time I saw RHPS. I was 13 and my dad and I watched the movie together. Have seen it live countless times with him since. Love it so much.
Tim Curry has a few albums to his name, that came out in the 70's and 80's. A bud of mine had one(can't remember which), that he lent me to check out...it wasn't bad...Tims vocals are distinct and unique, so you will always know when you are listening to a Tim Curry song(don't know if he wrote his own material or not). It's too bad he never put out more albums, or got the recognition he deserved for his talents (in the music industry)

I saw RHPS for the first time when I was around 20. What was is like watching that as a kid? I mean, I love the movie but couldn't imagine my kids watching it

I have loved this film my entire life. I went to a show a number of years back and it was spectacular! As a cool bonus to the experience I spoke to my parents about it and they were exchanging stories with me and telling me how amazing it was with the original cast back when they saw it. Apparently they used to allow the audience members to participate with water pistols in the "Over At The Frankenstein Place" scene, health and safety would've had a conniption fit!
I felt weirdly proud when you said "You can hear he can sing" like a proud mama 💙 Perhaps not the best song to "review" but great to listen to what you said about it anyway. I love Tim Curry so much.
Ok, so I am late to the party, but nonetheless I'll recommend you take a look at Tim Curry's performance of "The Pirate King";1982 Royal Variety Performance; simply magnificent
Tim Curry put out an album way back. I don't know anything about music, but I like it. Birds of a feather is a good example of how, much like Shatner really,, he doesn't really sing traditionally. I guess he's more of a performance singer like you say here. But, I mean, he has a lot of great stuff if you like the way he sings. He was in the 80s Annie film, as well. I think he did one or two songs in that. He's an amazing actor and performer.
You gotta listen to Tim Curry's solo music career. He made three albums - Read my Lips, Fearless, and Simplicity. He's a fantastic singer!! Please check him out when you get the chance!!!
There was a Brit tv show called Rock Follies where he guest starred in an episode as "Stevie Streeter" a rock star and he made so much out of a small part and of course his singing was awesome.

This song is very special in the Rocky Horror Picture Show because it's where Frank n' Furter is at his most authentic. During the whole film, he's always putting on a show, playing a role. And even though he is shown here (in an obvious fantasy) performing in front of a very respectable, older audience, he shows true emotion (for the first time maybe in the story).
I’m enjoying the image in my head if someone who has never seen the movie watching this reaction and being super confused. It’s a super weird movie but he really is the best part of it.
my community theatre did the ROCKY HORROR SHOW twice, and it was such fun! Our Frank was a MASTER MIMIC! he really nailed Curry! (I was the Narrator and didn't have ot do much, except tell the story and shoot lines back at the audience!)
As a former Riff Raff (300+ "shadow cast" performances in the 80s), I can't begin to tell you the joy of remembrance I felt watching this (although it was odd not hearing the audience lines.) Thank you Beth! "Be it - don't dream it."
Tim is so versatile, he can handle anything. Even a bad movie is good if he's in it. He is so much more than Rocky Horror. I'm glad he didn't let that role pigeon-hole his career. Love to listen to him sing Toxic Love.
No matter what one thinks of the show/movie, there are SO MANY wonderful songs in this show!!! This one is such a heart breaking song. Once in A While ( Motion Picture version) is also a very touching song. The original cast recording of it though was more upbeat and enjoyable with a slight emotional tinge. As I recall, Tim Curry said that the voice they ended up with for Dr. Frankenfurter was partly the Queen, and partly the affected voice his mother used when talking on the telephone
I saw RHPS as a play in Dallas years ago and the scene where Frank-N-Furter kills Eddie was depicted as him chasing Eddie around the theater with a boom box playing Barry Manilow songs until Eddie died from exhaustion. Very creative! Was a blast.

I know I'm late to this reaction but you really really need to watch the screen version of "Sweet Tranvestite", It is a great performance which adds so much to the song. The whole movie is worth a watch. After it finished its release run, it became a cult classic playing in thousands of theatres across the world in midnight showings for years. A lot and I mean a lot of people dressed as their favorite character which means some of them had to show up in raincoats or trench coats till after they had bought tickets and entered the screen room where it was playing. Beth, back in the late 80's when I was a senior in H.S., I played the character "Eddie" that was so brilliantly performed by Meatloaf. I'll always have very fond memories of playing that part because my best friend at the time was also in the cast. Every Saturday night at midnight I'd show up in my outfit with my friend and proceed to act out the character on the stage in front of the movie as it was playing right behind us. Those poor guys that had to clean that theatre after the show though I have the upmost respect for. Hopefully they got hazard pay after we completely trashed the place. Ahhh good times. 🤣😂😂🤣
It’s amazing how Dr. Franknfuter can go from villainous to emotionally sympathetic. A movie with a transvestite stereotype nearly made me cry. This movie deserves to go down in infamy.
I've seen the movie 600 or so times and the stage play 4-5 (SoNo! Norwalk! Best place ever) found myself doing audience participation lines while watching this, I can't help myself, it's burned into my brain. Rather see Beth react to Meatloaf's 'Hot Patootie'.
He is very much like David Bowie (Heroes/Lodger era) because he hangs around in the lower register a lot. He can go higher, but that would ruin the mood of the song.
I'd be interested in seeing a video of Beth analyzing Tim's performance of "Sweet Transvestite"
+1 :)

One of the few songs I feel deeply ...especially when I am far from home
Such a sad song that made me realize Frank’s whole character
This song is a masterpiece🥰🥰🥰
I've seen the movie 600 or so times and the stage play 4-5 (SoNo! Norwalk! Best place ever) found myself doing audience participation lines while watching this, I can't help myself, it's burned into my brain. Rather see Beth react to Meatloaf's 'Hot Patootie'.
Possibly also the sexiest man ever in a bustier and fishnets 😍
The sexiest man ever period
As a kid my first experience hearing tim curry sing was Toxic love from Fern Gully. As an adult still my favorite villan song
My favorite movie!!!
He is very much like David Bowie (Heroes/Lodger era) because he hangs around in the lower register a lot. He can go higher, but that would ruin the mood of the song.
Look it's Betty Ford
There's Gerald Ford, and Her Majesty The Queen.
