This is Elton at the peak of his career. NO ONE can sing like Elton did back then. Almost no falsetto at all. Brings tears to my eyes, even after all these years...

No back up singers and no echo chambers. This is better than the version released on the album. Just Elton and his piano...Its amazing.

WOW... The has to be the BEST VERSION that I have ever heard of this classic. His voice is so strong yet so soothing. What an artist and performer. Going to see him for the 32nd time this November 12, 2013 in BOSTON, Can't wait. Elton always puts on a great show and I can listen to his music everyday.

I really wish I could have seen Elton perform in his prime. He's still great, but his vocal range and the sheer level of creative output in the '70s will probably never be repeated by any solo artist again. He is a living legend.

There are people who spend a lot of money with lights, eletric instruments, people dancing in stage, in a very crazy ways... To see this kind of Elton Jon's presentation, just by himself and the piano, make my heart very calm, because it means that, in this word so superficial, it does exist real sensivity and talent. I'm proud of hearing this guy for the last 35 years of my life... All my love to you, my dear Elton.

+Hppyhppy2 Easy to understand why this song is greatly admired by Elton's fans. So much emotion went into writing this song. Taupin
wrote the words about the time before Elton was a star, when he struggled with whether or not to go through and marry a woman he had felt he loved, along with battling his strong feelings of desire he felt towards men, and giving up his dream of a successful career in music to take a job and support a wife and kids, …it led Elton to try and kill himself. Elton read the words that Taupin sent him (the lyrics in this song) and he broke down and went over to a piano and wrote this music.

I wouldn't call Elton John my all time favourite musician but without doubt I reckon he is/was the most talented mainstream musician over the last 40 years period. The piano is an instrument that portrays every human emotion and he does it with such ease. You can't get bored of this song - Classic

Elton John was engaged to be married in 1969 to his girlfriend, Linda Woodrow. John & Woodrow shared an apt with Bernie Taupin in East End of London, hence the opening line "When I think of those East End lights." Elton was having serious doubts about the looming marriage -he even contemplated suicide. His friend, Long John Baldry, convinced John to abandon his plans to marry in order to salvage & maintain his musical career. Taupin wrote Baldry into the song -referring to him as "Sugar Bear".

I'm just glad that I'm not missing it. Elton saved my life when I was a teen struggling with my homosexual identity, thank god his music was there to help me get through. There's never been a male singer in popular music that has touched my soul so much with that beautiful falsetto & upper soprano tenor as Elton John used to have in the 1970's Nobody can sing & play piano like that nor will there be anybody that will come close to the beauty he has created in Music!

Classic, Epic, and Incredible all unscore the power of this song. The genius that is Elton John shines in this amazing memoir.

great video! he has still got it today at what will be 64 years old! 25 people who dislike this can't appreciate real music and have no soul. I'm so tired of everyone criticizing him because he's gay and not very attractive. Listen to that voice and flawless piano playing! Plus the song lyrics have such deep meaning unlike Taylor Not So Swift's depressing songs that all sound the same. If you go see Elton live, you will appreciate him so much more. Keep it up Sir Elton John!
