As a mother of 2 boys that have, as we call "super powers", one who is 10 with Aspergers/ADHD/ ODD and Adjustment Disorder and the other who is 7 with ADHD, your videos have helped me more than you know to have a better understanding of how they process things differently and I would greatly like to thank you for that. You are amazing and have given me lots of hope for a brighter future for them both.
appreciate your channel brother. youre helping a lot of folks. I survived cancer twice while having half of my face amputated in the process.. a tumor destroyed my jaw and changed everything I once knew.. I decided to start my own channel to inspire others who feel ugly and not good enough for this world..I moved to Barcelona to build a new life. I want to show others that it's all about positivity and energy.. and that with the right mindset, you can overcome any mental or physical hurdle if u just learn to love yourself! positive energy trumps any physical shell! go check me out and subscribe if u want to help me reach my goal of helping others who lack self-love.. it would mean the world to me!!
My 11 year old has just got an ASD diagnosis - I have never felt more useless, more clueless or worried. He has been skirting around the diagnosis since very youg so I've always known he is different but the diagnosis hit me like a ton of bricks because I instantly started extrapolating what the rest of his life will be like. Or realising how little I know about what the rest of his life will be like. I guess he's 'high functioning' (I don't even know yet if that is the correct term) but I can't even comprehend how he is dealing with the diagnosis - but I'm consumed by thoughts of all the things I've been doing wrong, have I been making things worse insisting he eats healthy(ish) food, cleans his room, do his homework etc etc etc like his younger brother and sister have to. Just wanted to say thankyou for channels like yours and Kevin - content I can now consume on my own terms and can start to get some breathing room in my head, rather then the little advice from 'official' sources i've managed to assimilate so for.
When Kevin talks about his fears with his son growing up, I just recall -- to not be too personal -- a relative of mine who took care of her disabled son for his entire life. She got help from a school that specialized in disabled adults, but she simply cared for him day after day. She loved him, and felt that he was a very important part of her life. Now I'm sure Andy will be able to contribute to his own livelihood, but in the worst case, these things do happen and people grow and adapt and figure it out and I'm sure you won't be alone.
Planning far in advance... even as an adult with Aspergers, I still need that. I am so angry right now cause the person who tells me when I have appts told me I have one tomorrow and she is angry with me it seems as she tells me life doesn't give 48 hour warnings, but I need that for how my sleep cycle is, I need more prep time. I am so angry with her right now. I want/need that far planning in advance, but so many people are against it, unaware of how angry it makes me to not have enough time beforehand. Good for Kevin to understand that, thank you Kevin!
This is a great idea :) especially as many people on the spectrum might have children on the spectrum too! It would be great to see a video about your life before your diagnosis :)
Hell yeah. It is known to be in families. But like cousins and all. Because kids are more likely to be diagnosed now. Its thought to be genetic. But just havent been identified.
Thank you so much for sharing Kevin Chapman's channel. I am always looking for fellow parent's channels and, of course, UA-camrs on the spectrum like "Aspie World". I would love to see more of these and possible be part of a collaboration with you in the future. I have a few projects coming down the line, but I'm sure we could come up with something cool.
Fantastic video! The difference in audio between you and Kevin (I don't know how to explain it 😅) made me jump a bit but otherwise it was a fantastic and informative collab. Hopefully there will be some more! It's interesting to see the parent's point of view, Kevin seems like such a great and supportive parent 😊.
Thank you for this. My own 12yr old hasn't gone to school since September. She only tolerated the first three weeks. Her anxiety levels are very high. She has just recently started on anti anxiety medication and are waiting for it to achieve therapeutic levels. She won't sleep in her room. Her food intake is limited due to extreme particularities due to texture and taste. It's all very difficult to stay positive. I turn to your videos for hope for the future.
Hello again, so review, single mom 10 yr old son we both have aspergers (recently diagnosed). My son also has narcolepsy with cataplexy so we battle with sleep and weight gain. On top of the sensory and social difficulty. I want to thank you guys for offering a support to the public. It definitely helps to know I'm not alone. Please keep posting.
I would love to see a parent who has seen the first signs of autism and how/who they got the diagnosis and what supports are in place. Yes its not easy to parent/ co parent a child on the spectrum but each child is different
Can you do/have you done a video on how to tell people that you're on the Autism spectrum? It's something I've been having trouble with because saying words to people is already hard and I don't really know how to bring it up.
Carrie Baum Great idea! I'm booked to have an assessment and haven't even been able to tell anyone, even those closest to me. I just have no idea what to say or how they will react.
I get it. I'm also waiting for my assessment and that makes it even harder because I don't have the documentation of having it. I've told a few people and some don't believe me.
It’s great to view your earlier work here, and to see you stating your goals for advocacy. This interview is also a great reminder to us parents to keep asking for resources and solutions to help our kids, even after we are told no initially. It’s exhausting at times. I am requesting support from our local regional center as a recently diagnosed parent myself. There is so much paperwork and bureaucracy. Keep on doing your work for the community. It’s appreciated ❤️
It's nice to hear it from the perspective of a parent, this sounds selfish but I've always known my perspective but I never realised how much extra work goes on in the background, I learned a lot, thank you
Awesome guys! I am coming from both sides : raising my aspie 12 yr old son, AND in realizing his diagnosis also figuring out that I am also aspie. Trust me when I say being an aspie does not exactly make it any easier to raise an aspie! We have lots of similarities but a lot of differences too. Things that work for me don't always work for him. Ps- my son always had to have headphones on to go to a theatre or it would be too much for him. Now he's 12 he can do it without but usually chooses not to go.
Love this colab soooo very much! So looking forward to y'all doing more together. As a momma of an aspie child these two videos were what I truly needed; the 360 view of life.
As a parent who is just starting the journey of having our son diagnosed. Your Aspie world vidoes are great for both my son and I to watch. Really liked this video for me to watch. Thank you! so much!
Nice video I have faced similar things with the medical world where they don't understand someone like me with Asperger's at all, but I have been blessed to find a very nice GP who refers me to doctors who are so caring and helpful which I am grateful for. I also managed to find a nice hairdresser and dentist who is also caring and understands what I am going through and keeps me calm and they talk quite nicely to me.
No I'm getting the total opposite my boy wouldn't go to sleep until late it's been like that for years and the social workers are atrocities I'm on my 6 one my boy has no friends really eather not good ones enyway my heart is breaking for him please keep doing your video x
Fantastic video with Kevin. Really wish Kevin so much support, love and success with his family. Parenting children with these issues is so heart-rending and difficult. I felt so moved by his experience and Dan's interjection with his views on things was brilliant too, with tips on how to deal with anger, sensory overload, anxiety in Autism etc and how he has learnt to deal with issues as he get older. Loved it. Thank you to you both for posting it. Will subscribe to Kevin's vlog.
Great Video! I am currently going through the diagnosis process, and one of the biggest things I have been thinking about lately is how ASD would affect me as a future parent. I would love to see a video regarding the struggles and tips for parents who are on the spectrum.
I find these types of videos extremely helpful. I have just watched part 1 on Kevin’s channel and subscribed to him too. PLEASE do more videos of this nature! ♥️
I have the same thing with my son and the doctor. He has cystic fibrosis. And they phone me to ask about his medication lucky I know then inside out. And he never goes to see them. I phone and ask for more antibiotics as I have double them for a treatment (with advice from hospital) and they just say OK and fill it with out checking with the hospital xx
I was told in my therapy session that I do have autism. It kind of hit me hard. I always kind of knew, but being told bluntly really shocked my system. Can you maybe do a video about the reaction you had?
Hi Dan and kevin great video together i have 2 children may eldest is not on the spectrum but my youngest is he is only 3 it is hard to be a parent to 2 totally different children trying to explain to my daughter that her brother doesn't understand things like sharing and taking turns is so hard. Family gatherings are hard as his social skills are not great.
My son is four he is beautiful but so hard to help he will not eat any foods other than junk foods how ever hard we try he is very under wait for his age he has extensive speech problems he gets very little help no matter how much we push I feel like I'm going to get crushed under the strain of just him from sunrise to sunset
Well the anxiety discussion was interesting. I have a non verbal 10 year old that I thought was having impulse control issues. But maybe it’s anxiety 🤔. Dan I love your youtube challenge and Kevin I need to subscribe to yours. I also have an 8 year old who has Aspergers.
Stripes & Camo what's critical is determining what is over stimulation and what is actually "being naughty". To this day (I'm 37) I still have a hard time knowing how I'm feeling and communicating how I feel is even harder, so reaching a communication barrier often happens quickly and then the frustration comes thru and its interpreted as angst or bad behavior. I couldn't even clearly identify anxiety until I was 30. Once I learned how to recognize it, the better I could manage it. Still learning all the things that cause it.
Didn't have any lasting friends till I was twelve, and didnt actually develop truely meaningful friendships till I was about fourteen or fifteen, and even then many of them fell out of synch due to their and my choices
Wow i am in that spot now my son is 7 years old i came in at the age of 6 woth my daugjter who was 7 months old but already rasied my ex's kids to teenage hood and I am trying to figure out how to disapilen him with out sounding like i am mean but he picks on his baby sister and he extremely rough. And his dad my husband think i am this mean person and that i hate my son. I just have no clue what to do with him. He just will not listen to me when his dad is around!
My granddaughter has many issues one is autism. But her anger and never stops back talking or just plain talking is always there, is this part of it? Her parents are good in trying to have a schedule with her, and work with her, but it’s so exhausting mentally and physically, and suggestions?
Good video as I am losing my patience with my girlfriend’s son. I really get tired of hearing the following: “He has a neurological disorder”. He can’t help it.. A disorder is not an excuse to mis-behave. Help
Help please!! I've just come to realize my 16 year old son and my 51 year old husband probably do have aspergers. They both tell me " well even if we do, what's an expensive diagnosis going to change?" I ( heather/mother &wife) am Nuro typical and have been pulling my hair out for years. Now I feel Like I have some direction. One question is: why is the official diagnosis important? Two: is it just for my sanity or will it really help the possible aspies in my life!!!
Heather Young I just got my diagnosis at 32 year's old. For me, it was important to get a diagnosis, but I also understand your husband's perspective... Because it really hasn't changed anything. In fact, I think had I known earlier, I may have limited myself in what I could achieve. I work in sales, for crying out loud. I don't think I would have even tried that had I known. However, if you need things to change, understanding where they are coming from, may help you negotiate those changes more effectively. A formal diagnosis might not matter, but the perception change could be invaluable!!!
Its more important for your son to get a diagnosis. Your husband himself doesnt need one and seems to have figured it out. A diagnosis grants me. A 16 year old girl with it. The ability to take tests and more importantly exams in a room alone. So i will not get stressed out by like the big hall. The seriousness. Those things. It has allowed me to actually get more help in school from teacher for free, because of that simple word. Making me like pass. If i am.struggling and i say to my teacher my planning failed. It's not ptoblem and i can hand it in later. Others just get points of or an F. But also teachers knowing thus noticing. When i drift of completely focusing on something else. They'll start to talk.and walk in my direction. Or during work come up to me and ask if i.get it. Cause if i don't ill zone completely out staring into the void infront of me. All the advantages you get are actually kind of small. But they really really add up. And if you'd see it as a disadvantage for say getting employed. You arent obligated to say you have it. Cause it is irrelavent. And they arent allowed to discriminate with it.
I have a 16 year old daughter with ASD, she was diagnosed and saw a naturopath at about 10 years old. Not sure whether it was the diagnosis or the naturopath but we went from 3-4 hour long meltdowns each day to 1 a month. For several years things calmed down but we moved to Mexico ( which she loves) but she started to regress. To the point where she is having major meltdowns regularly again and ends up a screaming heap on the floor. She often can't identify what is wrong and can't communicate during a meltdown. She just knows something is wrong leading up and then all hell breaks loose. Any specific ideas of where I can find ways to help her? Actual strategies for avoiding meltdowns and helping her cope with life. She is hyper emotional and feels feelings very deeply. Currently shes still crying a week after seeing End Game like someone actually died. She is having trouble eating and sleeping caused by the movie. Im at a loss as to how to help
I have just subscribe to your channel I have a boyfriend who has got autsim and other autsim related conditions I found it difficult to get the help and support that he's needs
Hello there , I have a few questions. My son is 5 years old. He is on the spectrum and i have a hard time getting him to use the toilet. I brought him a toilet seat but he hates using it. Any advice. Also he hates taking baths. He bites on his toothbrush when he has to brush his teeth. He is still wearing pull ups i am trying to get him into big boy underwear. He hates feeding himself and he is a picky eater. Thanks for reading......
Great videos which are a godsend for a newly diagnosed HFA. Do you have any videos or info on being an autistic/aspergers parent? I've just been diagnosed at 42 and trying to come to grips with what it means for me and my family. I am particularly interested in finding info on how my HFA affects my role as Mum to my 2 very cool little kids. I don't cope well with change or surprises, I'm intolerant of noise, and don't like visitors. I've crafted a life which works OK for me but I'm now realising how limiting some of these things are likely to be for raising happy healthy kids! So far I've found loads about raising autistic kids, but nothing about being an autistic parent. Any ideas?
Hey! I love you channel 💖. I was wondering if you could talk about Aspergers and Video Games. Because my 6 year old is an Aspie and I was just wondering how video games will affect him if he played or if it’s a good idea to let him play at all?
I would like to know if their are any tips to parents that have Asperger or the extra challenges of parents that have to struggle with their Asperger's and raising kids.
Omg just what I need... As a parent with autism (asperger) i could definitely use your help. Idk im confused..back when i was in middle school i was diagnosed with asperger...recently i got a new evaluation, which states "mild autism" i noticed in the report i think they used DSM-5 or something cant remember. But i did see that it says I DO NOT have language delay so maybe its aspeger? As irememher you say high functioning autism people have speech delays where as us aspies do not
Do you have a link to that sunlamp you were talking about? I am very interested in that :) I think it is so hard to get out of bed in winter when it's dark outside. Does it help you get more energy in winter? :)
This morning : Aspie mom; oh shoot almost forgot you have got swimming lessons today Aspie son: why didn't you tell me!! Aspie mom: I forgot about it myself.. Both kind of panic Me cause it was not on my schedule ( the one in my head) My son because he needs a warning the evening before. Luckily my panic is hardly visible anymore so I can calm him. This was all around 7 this morning . The swimming class does not start until 11.11
Hey I'm over from Kev's channel Had a friend at school who had aspergers Had no idea what it was he was very clever so child me thought aspergers meant clever
Hey!!! Welcome to our family here, the most accepting family on UA-cam!!! Well people with Asperger’s usually have average to above average intelligence so you are right in a way. Thank you so much for coming to my channel awesome to meet new people!
People!!!!!!. I saw right now in this video the advertisement of red dead 2: I'm in love with that game. I've played red dead 1 and I was in love. I am glad that I've watched this advert.
Love your channel but Don't care for his...He allows his StepSon to Do what he wants with No Consiquences!! He Gives in and allows him to Not go to school and rewards him with church and elevator visits...He Seriously Needs More Help and Teaching before he can Have a Channel About Autism!!! Just My Opinion but I Know I'm Not Alone!!!

Help please!! I've just come to realize my 16 year old son and my 51 year old husband probably do have aspergers. They both tell me
" well even if we do, what's an expensive diagnosis going to change?" I ( heather/mother &wife) am Nuro typical and have been pulling my hair out for years.
J Mm thank you.
Oh man, that can be tough. Thank you so much for the comment! Please subscribe to my channel to see more videos from me :).

You guys are great. Way too many adds though
Hey thank you so much, I have done a video on it: ua-cam.com/video/082JIoEmLC8/v-deo.html
The Aspie World Thank you so much! 😊

I would like to know if their are any tips to parents that have Asperger or the extra challenges of parents that have to struggle with their Asperger's and raising kids.
I want to do a series on this subject.
Nice video Danny.
Thank you!!!
"TRY" Sounds like every parent teacher meeting I've had. I was trying they just thought I needed to try harder.
As irememher you say high functioning autism people have speech delays where as us aspies do not
✌🏼 - Aspergers is characterised by certain traits and one of them is not having language delay.
I am a 52 year old Mom, I have adhd and autism. I have 3 Children that have the same, boy 28,girl 27, and baby Girl is 8 is

Do you have a link to that sunlamp you were talking about? I am very interested in that :) I think it is so hard to get out of bed in winter when it's dark outside. Does it help you get more energy in winter? :)

This morning :
Aspie mom; oh shoot almost forgot you have got swimming lessons today
Aspie son: why didn't you tell me!!
Aspie mom: I forgot about it myself..
Both kind of panic
Me cause it was not on my schedule ( the one in my head) My son because he needs a warning the evening before.
Luckily my panic is hardly visible anymore so I can calm him.
This was all around 7 this morning . The swimming class does not start until 11.11

Also you should make that video on your special interests and talk about it :)
Im starting to think Kev is worse than Katie Price
What?
Love your channel but Don't care for his...He allows his StepSon to Do what he wants with No Consiquences!! He Gives in and allows him to Not go to school and rewards him with church and elevator visits...He Seriously Needs More Help and Teaching before he can Have a Channel About Autism!!! Just My Opinion but I Know I'm Not Alone!!!
