If I told Finn I listen to 3.92 hours per day of power metal. He would deduce that I am most certainly European, and he would be right.
I think most of the world outside the US listens to European metal more though. He talks about the metal European festivals as if they were this one off strange thing, when people from all over the world go every year. No one goes to American metal festivals because there aren't that many to begin with, and most except Maryland Deathfest, are pretty awful.
I live in central US and listen to a massive ton of European metal, from power to folk to whatever. @@MoonOvIce

I lived in the US more than a decade ago so it's weird to see many of these youtubers almost deny actual reality where many people from all over listen to metal from all over, it's only a North American lense which os strange and I don't think represents reality. I love Finn's content nonetheless, this just always catches my attention with him, Nik Nocturnal and others. Tank the tech though, he speaks about most if not all metal and doesn't deny the existence of 70% of it, and he's American as well.

Being unironic, I do love the Spotify (or Apple Music) wrap, because I think it’s cool seeing either people’s diverse taste in music, or comparing similarities on stuff we matched on. Idk, I think it’s fun 💁♀️

1 more breakthrough band this year: Knocked Loose. After Coachella, they broke 1M on Spoitfy, they were at like 6-700k before that. For HxC, crazy.
And that's great for them. But I saw them live and I really don't get it. I didn't find them interesting at all.

I don't know if I agree with my Spotify wrap. King Gizzard was my top pick and that was correct as I really got into them this year. The rest was questionable although slightly accurate. I did enjoy over 25 genres last year. That was interesting to see. Who cares what's hip. I love Radiohead. Name a more emotionally stirring song than "Pyramid Song". Hip is just a standard. I see hip and I think, this is going to be easily digestible and safe. Some artists can be both. But that is extremely rare. It's like sifting for gold and I like the big nuggets.
Yeah, I recently got into Amorphis, though I had known of them for a long time due to my older brother. Who cares they've been around for 30 years? they keep releasinf albums and remaking their sound, which is amazing to me.

DUDE! I'm the "Volbeat" Guy. I had literally never heard of them and for like one month I listened to them a bunch and somehow they became my top artist.
I think a lot of the high numbers on Spotify are not all music. I had over 40k, but I also had 25k listening to podcast. I always listen to podcast when I take a walk, and I used to listen to a lot on job.
I wonder how many of the people that have 80k are either listening to music or podcast when they are at work.
I don't have a streaming service.. primarily just listen to (burned) CDs and old LimeWire downloads! But my top 5 *Most Played* songs on iTunes are:
"Don't Worry Baby" - Beach Boys, "Hellbent" - New Order, "Ain't No Sunshine" - Al Green (incorrectly attributed!), "When the Levee Breaks" - Led Zeppelin, "Shake the Disease" - Depeche Mode

saw august burns red touring with killswitch about a year and a half ago. first time I heard abr was that day live, they were incredible. Some of their songs are quite complex. Its some nice variety.
@@StarJoker2 they're my fav band of all time. They have never released a bad song and their music has evolved and changed over the years much more than people give them credit for imo. No other band gives me the same feeling when listening to them as abr.

I am a girl and would fit the spooky list, I like all those artists 😂 I mean, my wrapped for this year was : 1- Bad Omens, 2 - Oddko, 3 - Käärijä, 4 - Motionless in White and 5 - The Birthday Massacre. I am also in the category of people that have Bad Omens as number 1 artist for this year lol

I listened to Atreyu 50x more than everyone and that was exclusivly their album The Curse. Lmao
Bummed I missed this. Finn would have had a good time with mine. Mine had Hollywood Undead in top 5, along with Just Friends, Blink, Youth Fountain and Point North. I think though the real gem would be Two Weeks by Barenaked Ladies in my top 5 songs. I would have loved to be roasted.

I discovered Bilmuri this year and between his 15 albums and an addictive personality, it was number 1. Bilmuri, 2. Linkin Park and 3, 4 and 5 were artists featured on Bilmuri songs because I listened to those particular songs so much that Bilmuri took up 4 out of 5 slots lol.

I absolutely love Silverstein! This is How the Wind Shifts to this day is my absolute favorite album from them but again, I like their whole Discography. Chevelle Rise Against and Linkin park I’m more of a casual fan. Jars, Audience of One, and Numb are my favorite songs from them respectively. Chevelle’s new recent track Self Destructor is really good tho.

@finn: I listened to Spotify one day last year so my list was just a single song by several people… it was no indication of what I really hear, but it did post a few fishbone and Melvins stuff. I mainly listen to songs from my iTunes. ✌🏼🤘🏽
This year I bought a new TV and we share it with ny partner, so there's a Spotify and google account made specifically for the TV. Since we put Spotify premium on it, I started using it on my phone as well.
Needless to say, there's a mix of many genres of metal (mainly European), 90's grunge (more her than me), 80's hard rock and heavy metal, and a lot of Depeche Mode, Tangerine Dream, Plini...lots of atmospheric instrumental music...
weird mix and somehow, it all makes sense 😅

taking hardstyle as an example, if you were to compare lineups from q-dance (europe) to insomniac/basscon (USA), you do see some of the same names, but you can also tell each locale has their respective regulars.
same goes for bass music: rampage (europe) has considerably more drum & bass acts than lost lands (USA). someone said it feels like today's dubstep artists do one show in europe for every 100 in america.
i personally think it's because european ravers seem to be more care-free. they have fun. they're open to other genres which leads to more diverse lineups.
