    "Gravity" would be different between the center and the edges of the flat plane. For example, the center of the plane would be closer to the center of rotation, lowering the centripetal force, and thus the perceived gravity (compared to other regions of the plane). The edges would be the opposite, where "gravity" would be higher.
    A Halo shape fixes this by bending the plane (which then, is no longer flat) so that every part of it is the same distance from what it orbits.

    • @SpontaneousProcess
      @SpontaneousProcess Рік тому +19

      I think the world could be curved around the center without becoming non-flat (assuming that we’re willing to allow “flat” and “planar” to be two different things). As long as it’s not an orb, toroid, cylinder, cube, or some sort of other closed polyhedron, I think we could say it’s flat.

    • @Starnite_

      @@SpontaneousProcess or if the sun and moon both orbit the world, then make the world orbit from some point really far out, you could make the forces the same more or less across the whole plane. so lets say a distance from the black hole sagitarius a to the earth and a plane the size of a minecraft world would be more like a point on a theoretical circle. to counter balance so as to not need as strong and impossible anchor either the nether or another world could be on the same spinning axis but opposite the world. as said the sun and moon would be tethered off of the minecraft world then and not typical to how its in our world. we also dont know the gravity on either so they can be flat planes closer to the world

    How to debunk the ludicrous cosmology in this video in 3 easy steps:
    1) Start a new Minecraft world
    2) Start punching trees, as one does in a new Minecraft world
    3) Notice that the upper logs do not fall when the ones below are removed, thereby proving that gravity as we know it IRL does not apply here and thus the entire latter half of the video working from premises of IRL gravity physics is entirely inapplicable.

    You can create a nonspherical gravitational field by having matter underneath the bedrock. More of it is on the edges to counter the inwards pull of gravity. You'd also have to account for the corners. Given that we don't see matter under bedrock, it's possible that it's in the form of black holes being contained.

The only acceleration is inward, being the centripetal acceleration due to the rope things. 32m/s² is terminal velocity in earth's atmosphere. Anyway, gravity in most video games (minecraft included) isn't a result of mass. It's just downward force applied to objects. Usually there is a modifier that is univerally applied to all objects, but can be modified independently by individual object, object types, areas of the map, etc... this happens even in games set in space, where gravity is effectively zero, and the physics engine really only has to account for velocity and momentum.

    Centrifugal Force is not a thing. It IS NOT A FORCE. It’s an application of inertia, not in of itself a force, but the result of the CENTRIPETAL FORCE yanking it toward the center of a rotating axis while Inertia wants to fling it into a straight line in the direction of motion. This results in Centrifugal Inertia, the thing many still call a force, but it is NOT.

    2:30 aaaaaand you just described a torus, not ball. unless of course your world border is the "opposite pole" to spawn, but then walking in a straight line *next to* spawn would have to keep turning you around it, which doesn't happen.

  • @robobuilder1335

    2:37 I just want to note, but two of the faces would loop back onto a different point on themselves. Like how going to the north pole doesn't teleport you to the south pole.

    I think it's elegant. It even solves the issue of "falling" out of the world when you break the bedrock. Normally, you'd think gravity would pull you back, but if it's spinning, the source of the gravity makes so much sense.

    Yes! A long gripe of i’ve had with your (very entertaining and educational) serious is that you ALWAYS use the physics of our universe, even when the game obviously has different physics.

    Wow…seeing Austin illustrate and explain all that goes into flat Minecraft…no…Minecraft is not flat…it is either a very large sphere, or a cube…and I will hear no arguments to the contrary

    Here's a weird science thing I thought of, Austin:
    With chest boats being added to Minecraft, what is the bouyancy of each kind of wood, including bamboo, and thus what would the impact of this be? Considering there is no displacement, this infers water has a shifting mass.

    ~3:00 I guess because Mojang didn't code so generation match at borders that's why they also didn't make it so Minecraft world loops.
    I wonder if there are mods that make it appen.

    There's one glaring issue. If the world was rotating, flying up in the air then dropping to the bottom would have you land somewhere else as the world rotated out from under you. What we see is that no matter the height you fall from, you always fall directly down in sync with the world landing in exactly the same spot meaning it can't be rotating and your first model of rockets strapped to the underside is the more likely one. The sun and the moon would be orbiting the earth with your unbreakium tethers and every minecraft world is doomed to die from proton decay as time and space unravel around it

    So if we just ignore the centrifugal force idea, how dense would bedrock have to be to account for the x3 gravity?
    Like bedrock is nearly indestructible and holds the entire flat world together, so you would assume it would be insanely dense.

    • @xotlxoltyna
      @xotlxoltyna 7 місяців тому

      specifically because centrifugal force is not real, but is actually the result of inertia. I would rather consider the absurd density of bedrock. In all reality, the thin bedrock layer needs to account for a mass several orders of magnitude greater than the rest of the world.

    It is also due to relativity that you will never reach the speed of light no matter how long you accelerate at 32m/s². But of course explosions are not pleasant.

    there's a solid chance that the world border is just that, a border, the map keeps generating to give the illusion that there's more there, which insinuates that we COULD be on a globe, just on a teeny tiny part of it
