The Battle of Crecy animated like you've never seen before! Join King Edward III and his valiant son, the Black Prince, as they lead the English forces against the might of the French army during the Hundred Years' War. In the video I tried to depict the action and moments of heroism that defined the conflict, to the best of my abilities. My animation attempts to vividly portray the chaos and intensity of battle, offering a glimpse into the bravery and sacrifice of soldiers on both sides. It is an attempt not only to tell the story of the battle but in a way make you participate in it as a spectator !

📌The Battle of Crécy took place on 26 August 1346 in northern France between a French army commanded by King Philip VI and an English army led by King Edward III. The French attacked the English while they were traversing northern France during the Hundred Years' War, resulting in an English victory and heavy loss of life among the French.
The English army had landed in the Cotentin Peninsula on 12 July. It had burnt a path of destruction through some of the richest lands in France to within 2 miles (3 km) of Paris, sacking many towns on the way. The English then marched north, hoping to link up with an allied Flemish army which had invaded from Flanders. Hearing that the Flemish had turned back, and having temporarily outdistanced the pursuing French, Edward had his army prepare a defensive position on a hillside near Crécy-en-Ponthieu. Late on 26 August the French army, which greatly outnumbered the English, attacked.
During a brief archery duel a large force of French mercenary crossbowmen was routed by Welsh and English longbowmen. The French then launched a series of cavalry charges by their mounted knights. These were disordered by their impromptu nature, by having to force their way through the fleeing crossbowmen, by the muddy ground, by having to charge uphill, and by the pits dug by the English. The attacks were further broken up by the effective fire from the English archers, which caused heavy casualties. By the time the French charges reached the English men-at-arms, who had dismounted for the battle, they had lost much of their impetus. The ensuing hand-to-hand combat was described as "murderous, without pity, cruel, and very horrible." The French charges continued late into the night, all with the same result: fierce fighting followed by a French retreat.

That took a LONG time, I know...
Crecy was probably the most difficult battle to create, technically speaking.
It has almost everything to make its digital recreation a nightmare.
Crossbowmen, huge cavalry charges, cannons, archers, infantry.
All put together into a coding and artistic puzzle.
I did everything I could to present this battle both accurately but also artistically appealing.
I really hope you like it!
Can you also do more modern stuff.
@@HistoryHaty Which period would interest you?
@@historybattles3D Napoleonic War👍
@@HistoryHaty I would seriously love to make Napoleonic Era Battles.
I already have the battle of Austerlitz "directed" in my head. The only thing that I'm missing is appropriate animations for the era though and unfortunately I haven't found a single pack on the market.
No cannoneer animations and no musketeer animations. So my only solution is to some day make them myself.
@@historybattles3D Oh. Thats a shame.
Bud made his own medieval 3 total war in order to make this video
The cinematics have taken on an incredible quality, even so, it's funny like in the videos and the games, the soldiers cut through their armor as if it were cloth, the reality was that the fights were extremely more aggressive, with the soldiers piercing the heads of their enemies with the pommels of their swords and their shields, throwing them to the ground to stab their heads through the vices of their helmets, breaking their limbs and stepping on their necks until they break. Was really wild, not at all chivalrous, not at all honorable.
You are quite right, indeed.
This was something that I would really like to represent somehow on screen, but until now I'm lacking the proper animations.
I would either have to find them somewhere and buy them, or make them from scratch which would be a gigantic undertaking.
If the channel becomes bigger and more profitable I intend to buy a motion capture set. I would then be able to take the animations to another level in terms of accuracy.
@@historybattles3D Let's go for it all 🔥🔥
It's quite understandable since the great majority of these sort of video game makers have little to none understanding of medieval martial arts/swordsmanship. Besides that, it's much easier for the video mechanics to just do it like that. There's only one video game that I know of who's realistic in that aspect, and that's Hellish Quater.
As for what medieval battlefield combat might have looked like. We really have no concrete idea how it actually was done, or which kind of techniques were used. There are some possible theories out there, and yours might not be that far from the actual reality (it's very possible).
So far the medieval accounts and sources don't mention exactly how it was done. All we have are the medieval treatises for armour combat, but those are in the settings of one vs. one judicial type duels.
Certainly combat in the form of grappling with weapons in hand, was conducted. That much we get from Fiore di Liberi treatise "La Fior di Battaglia", in the armizare section. Also there are techniques at half-sword which could have been easily employed without having to resort to grappling.
One thing is for certain, the combatants of those eras (specially the men-at-arms and knights) were excellent athletes. People who would have dedicated their whole life to exercise and physical fitness. Like a modern combat sports athlete!
This was truly a very crecy battle.
Well it could have been in Somme 🤣
this channel's quality is so freaking good, can't believe how small this channel is
Thank you !
Well, I think one of the reasons that my subscriber count is still quite low is because of the few number of videos I have uploaded.
It is an unfortunate side-effect of the workload each video requires.
Hopefully, If I'm not replaced by AI, I might eventually gather a large enough audience !
The book the archer’s tale by Bernard Cornwell describes this battle perfectly. Incredible book and incredible battle
It sounds very interesting. Definitely going to check it now.
I’ve been interested in this time period lately, watching the Kings & Generals 100 years war video and reading Ken Follet’s “A World Without End”, and i was intrigued by your recommendation because I’m also a fan of Cromwell from The Last Kingdom series. Went to check out the archer’s tale AND IT WAS FIRST PUBLISHED ON ME BIRTHDAY! I see it as a sign man im gonna get it and read it asap :) Thanks for the recommendation!
@@historybattles3DSo you’ve never heard of Bernard Cornwells books? Wow. Back to the drawing board for you I’m afraid.
If this was a game, i would buy it in a heartbeat. Great video!
Not in a playable condition at the moment, but tthank you very much!
@@historybattles3D at the moment means that it will maybe be a game 🤨
Great video! The most interesting version of Crecy I watched and I've seen many versions.
I love to see all the battles of the hundred years war made like the battle of patay. Excellent video always looking forward!
PLEASEEEEEE MAKE THIS A GAME SOON😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
That would be great if possible.
Unfortunately, at its current state is 100% non-playable.
We are talking about Frame Per seconds.
Amazing.... love Edward the third and especially the black prince what a Time in history wow well done
Thank you!
Another fantastic production.
Your animation skills get better with every video.
Thank you!
I tried to improve the shots in this video. Glad you liked them!
I discovered this channel just yesterday, and i am obsessed. Keep it coming!!!
Thank you very much and welcome to our merry band!
Bravo ! It's almost like being there ! Very excellent work ! Looking forward to seeing the next one !

Feeling that you were there was part of my intentions when I was making the video, so I'm extremely glad that you think so!
Production excellence, and first rate historical research.
I salute you sir!
Thankyou for all the effort you have put into this.

Well, I would really like to move onto Ancient Greece at some point.
So, Marathon is certainly coming, not sure when though.
I wish I could work faster and have one or two videos finished per month.
Creative Assembly better watch this.
The video editing just keeps getting better and better and the quality🤫
Thank you very much!
Great video. Amazing detail to the combat movements
I've been following since the first videos. The animations have improved and become gigachad... the narration is great, I'm waiting for the new ones, thank you!
That's wonderful to hear. Thank you very much!
I'm glad that you think animations are getting better. But surprised to hear that you like my narration, pleasantly of course!
I'm trying my best with each aspect of the video, but the narration is what I'm more anxious about, to be honest.
Keep going man! Every battle is more polite than the previous one! Greetings from Argentina!
Thank you very much !
That's the beauty of the internet. I wouldn't dream of having people watching my videos for so FAR away!

Watching this with my boys, keep’em coming.
Thanks, I will !
@@historybattles3D Thanks. We just watched siege of Malta on another channel but the boys were underwhelmed because it barely showed any battle scenes. Just maps basically.
Great animations and maps. HB 3D thanks for mentioning the English cannons in the battle. I wonder what impact it had on the French forces. Now artillery is one of the main forces on the battlefield but then it was a new super weapon.

I'm trying my best to improve with each video. I also try to increase my video output which isn't easy.
please never stop making these videos it’s so frustrating how youtube works quality content like yours can take months to make and they don’t like that they are okay with some shitty scumbag shitting out 6 shorts a day they push that stuff to the moon i hope one day you have the ability to hire people to help you so you can push out more videos and get the youtube algorithm to actually help you out much love keep up the grind content like yours is what the site was made for not what google is making it

Super nice video!

omgggg the cinametics are crazy ! if any game would look like this im buying it XD
A teenager that had been raised to be a knight and trained by the best masters since he could walk
we're back!
the animations feel like they was done by the guy who made "death of hope" for warhammer
It's nice how the animation shows what the longbows were really good for, namely weakening the force of the cavalry's charge
You must have watched Tod's video of the effects of the medieval longbow and arrows on armour. Not as effective as much as it was usually believed to have been so, but damaging enough to cause a distraction and weakening to the attacking force.
In the hands of skill archers, they would have been able to find the weak spots on the armour. And if not right away kill the knight, wounded him enough that he could have been easily taken down.
Thank you for noticing!
I'll certainly try to improve the animations in the future, the setting of which is probably among the most time consuming aspects of video creation.
If the channel becomes bigger and thus more successful and profitable I will certainly purchase a motion capture set to make the animations as realistic as possible.
@@tatumergo3931 In the right place at the right time, the longbow could be decisive. Counterexample is the Battle of Grandson, where the longbowmen had zero effect.
@@historybattles3D . The good thing is that there's plenty of material to take from. Specially like the videos from the different HEMA groups that engage in realistic stage combat. Those types seem perfect to motion capture combat actions.
@@currentofthesnake8486 . Yup! As always the case in warfare, strategy over tactics can win the day.
P. S. In all the instances that the war longbow was successful, a series of obstacles and barriers were used and employ to give ample opportunity to the archers to make their shots effective.
Wish yall had voice acting roles that needs filling because I would definetly do it
My typical answer to this is that when and if the channels grows to become successful and profitable I'll probably need and hire some help for sure.
Making these videos is very time consuming and hiring some help would have been great if I could afford it.
GOT MY SUB! 🔥🇫🇯
Welcome aboard!
Great video! May I ask though, shouldn't Prince Edward have darker armour? He was called the "Black Prince" due to the black colour of his armour/shield so I would've assumed his armour darker. Perhaps you did it as best you can as I'm not an expert in this. Again, great video, love seeing these battles come to life.
Thank you!
Well, here the Prince of Wales is yet to get his moniker "The Black Prince".
It is very early in his life.
Having said that, I believe that historically it is not entirely clear why he was named "The black Prince". There are various theories.
@@historybattles3D Oh I see! well thank you for the explanation
The English raids into French territory were called chevauchée in French.
Will you make a video on the English Crécy or Agincourt, such as the battle of Patay (1429) or Castillon (1453)? These were decisive French victories which decimated the English archers and allowed France to triumph in the Hundred Years' War.
Yes I'll certainly make these battles at some point in the future.
@@historybattles3D Thank you very much, dear sir!

Can you please put an Narrator, whos English can be understand .
Most of the Video i cant understand. Thumb down.
How is it difficult to understand what I'm saying though, really curious to know.
I can't hire a narrator right now due to the channel not being profitable enough.
So, unfortunately I'll have to use my own narration until the channel grows bigger.
His English is perfect, and I'm English ok. In fact it's better than most English people. The problem lies with your inability to understand anything other than American sitom English, not with the narration. I did my degree in the early 90s in English and if you can't understand this you can't understand English and need more lessons
@historybattles3D I urge you to totally ignore his/her comment. I am English and to my 'English' ears your English is perfect. If he can't understand it he needs more English lessons. It's that simple. His deficit isn't your problem, so I'd pay it no mind. I'm also pretty sure any Englishman would agree with this. Then again Americans often need subtitles to understand actual English people speaking, urm, English. If these people are so lazy they can't understand anything but second rate lazy English it is their problem.
@@historybattles3D'whos (sic) English can be understand'...I rest my case!
But the French still won the hundred years war
