Can you do Battle of Sufiyan one of Shah Abbas the Great best victory
that's a pretty shit game
Hannibal please continue up until his end 😢
I hope HistoryMarche will do a bio on David McCallum.
Very good to see so many of you guys showed up for the defense of Padua, let met brief you on our plan called "your lives for our flank."
Dudes laid their lives proudly for Padua 😂😂😂😂
Two important lessons can be extracted from this video, that the best European mercenaries of that century were English and French veterans of the Hundred Years' War, and that the only ones who benefited from the conflict were the Milanese. I welcome the fact that you talk about more of the conflict of those times in both Italy and Spain, since there are several interesting battles that are not known, for example the intervention of the Black Prince in the Castilian Civil War, to give an example.
The Black Prince campaigned in Spain???
@@juanzulu1318Read the Battle of Nájera of 1367 and the story about the First Castilian War from 1351 to 1369. This conflict is considered part of the Hundred Years' War, because it had active participation between the English and French crowns, to gain Castilian support and its military fleet; I recommend that you read it, because its consequences were reflected in several historical events later, both in the war in France and in the future.
He contracted the disease in Spain that ended up taking his life if I am not mistaken.
@@juanzulu1318Yes.
@@TheStrategos392 Yes, that's right, besides that they ended up on bad terms with the king of Castile. The English supported the wrong candidate, Pedro de Castilla was very arrogant and did not pay the English aid as they deserved, which ended with the abandonment of support and the French taking the lead with the usurper Enrique de Trastamara, who won in the end. The consequences were so serious that it cost the Black Prince his life, in addition to being an economic disaster due to the expenses of the campaign and all despite the fact that the Battle of Najera was a resounding victory for the Spanish-English side; however, They did not manage to put an end to the rebellion, so it was Pyrrhic and ended with the Castilian fleet supporting the French fleet throughout the rest of the Hundred Years' War.
love to see 14th century free companies and John Hawkwood get some coverage from such a great channel! Thank you
Also, look up the manga about Hawkwood, it's pretty good!
I also find it very interesting to see the origins of the Free Companies which inspired my fantasy Empire army for WHFB...
If I get seriously into historical wargaming, I will DEFINITELY refight this period at least every few months...
GRIFFITH! wait sorry, wrong band of the hawk
@@frankkobold I think he is known as "Griffith" in Japan. Or maybe you are refering to another one?

Now that's soldiering
All great leaders lead from the front
Gian Visconti deserves his own video. A classic scheming Machiavellian.
Props to Ubaldini for that sneaky move!
Absolutely good job!
And as always, can't wait for the return of Hannibal's series, the greatest enemy of rome!
The Greatest Enemy of Rome, was Rome itself
Fascinating. What a interesting period of Italian history.
And English haha
I've heard a lot of interesting things about John Hawkwood. That man had a really adventurous life.
He deserves his own movie

Yes please, more Italian battles medieval/Renaissance, such an interesting period
I would pay very good money to see this channel cover the wars of south america. We do not have many military history channels here and theyre all light years from HM. Theyre all such interesting conflicts. I really hope it happens one day
I don't know much about your continent's wars but I would love to find out more. Greetings from Croatia
@@natkojurdana9673all 4 of them
Is there documentation left from pre-conquistadores wars? Really curious
For someone interested about John Hawkwood there is a 49 chapters manga about his employment in France and the campaign he joined that ultimately led to the battle of Crecy. The art is excellence, the strategies and military maneuvers were extremely well depicted and so you should check it out now. Unfortunately the manga wasn’t popular or else it would had received a longer runtime. Anyway it is almost like Vinland Saga in term of art but with Medieval France setting, Hawkwood and the Black Prince as the main duo, and the Royal French Army as main antagonists, so what more could one even hope for?
Funfact: Griffith and the Band of the Hawk in Beserk is inspired by Hawkwood and his White Company.
Stfu about your Nonsense, we don’t care about Maga ok trumper
I would love to see more videos on medieval or Renaissance Italy. Such an over looked region
Overlooked by Anglos maybe.
John the astute did indeed become legendary! You're the best man! And please consider making a video on Ferdinand III the Saint of castile and Leon! One of the Reconquista greatest figures!❤❤❤❤❤
Such a good quality video. And, as an Italian, I am impressed by the good Italian pronounciation!
12:00 Imagine being one of those militiamen and realizing only too late that you're just bait and will die to let your commanders make his military maneuver.
Yeah thats thousands of families who had little to celebrate that evening. All glory for great men is built on foundations of bones of common people though, and its better than being pillaged after losing a siege for sure.
One of, if not the best history channel on UA-cam, everything is spot on in what I love about history documentarys
John Hawkwood. Classic case of “I play all sides so I always come out on top in the end.”
Hawkwood acted honourably its the political elites that led him to leave
well and in defense of the political elites, they were put in a stranglehold financially by the mercenary groups so u cant blame them.
Very intriguing and compelling video. Was great to see a video covering one the key battles, that showed just how import and influential the free companies were in the history of Italian city state conflicts during this period. Plus great Job Paduan leadership in respect of how to throw away the fruits of victory and then get outplayed by the viper in Milan.
Imagine being one of those poor Padua town militia basically being used as a distraction and sent to your likely death.
Then after the formation breaks apart, you somehow managed to run towards the nearest city gate, while being pursued, only to find the gate shut because the enemy can't be allowed in either. With nowhere to run or hide, you get run down and killed...
It was so kind of the Paduans to let them fully deploy. Imagine that, 1500 mounted veterans waiting for 4000 scrubs with wooden pitchforks to get in line.
I have been seeing these videos as shorts. I am so glad that I finally got to watch a full video. This is amazing! I love the fantastic way we get ot see historical battles.
Honestly Every time I watch another video it makes me want to play bannerlord and test the tactics and formation in the video Great Video 👍
Great video Mago! Love that you cover these often overlooked part of history
It's good to see italian history more than Rome, WW II and Napoleonic Era.
Incredible, learn something new every time.
This was just full of tragedy. Such a good video.
Thanks for another great video! ⚔🔥🙌
Your city is under attack and you volunteer to aid the defense to just be used as a sacrifice while the real army attacked from the rear as you took the full blunt of the attack and were slaughtered. Brutal tactics by Ubaldini.
We were never told who was chosen, could have been all the old men and they knew what they were doing
@@jimmychase8494 yeah but then dont you think they would make that clear. I figured they chose the biggest and strongest of the bunch idk tho.
@@John333Scout I think they would have taken the people most likely to actually do it.

Thank you, for showing the wars in northern Italy in this period.
This channel is by far the greatest war reenactment channel on youtube. I relish these vids. Suspensefull.
Great video! Sir Hawkwood is one of my favorite mercenary gernals
Very nice video! Thanks!
what a massive blunder woahh . Verona had such a massive reserve but the banner being captured just destroyed the morale
And now you know why "capture the flag" wargames exist!

I'd love to see more videos about the medieval history of Flanders, it's really interesting
almost a million subscribers. Awesome Channel Been listening to this since Michel the brave.
Great video I learned a lot. Padua were silly letting their best commander walk, crazy. It was ultimately their undoing along with being naive.
Now this was exciting to watch how the experience and boldness of a man resolved a stalemate situation. - Reading "mercenary" in the title I thought of Conrad of Montferrat (died 1192) whose life / history march was likewise astonishing. He was the very protector of Tyre against Saladin. A good survey is by Werner Goez (cf. th German Wiki article). Conrad would be really worth a video.
just pointing out that the town of Legnano indicated on the map is actually Legnago. Legnano is in fact a completely different location, where another important battle took place.

I see that in the Middle Ages, the Italian city-states tended to form a league again and again. But they never thought of actually reunify the peninsula? Like why? What stopped them?
Freemasonic subversion and lies it seems
You have answered your own question. Whoever tried to reunify the peninsula was met with a coalition of other city-states.
This was a combination of factors, on one hand you had the struggle between the HRE and the Pope, each city state would select who to support in base of their rivalries and on the other hand Italian unification always came with the question of who would be the legitimate ruler to unify Italy under his banner. This and the internal instability of the governments of each city wasn't the best recipe for Italian unification.
To quote one American GI "There were only two directions: Up the hill, and down the hill."
Italy may have large cities but it's broken up into hard-to-get-to localities. For this reason much of Italian history has been either coalitions of city states, or large failed stated ruled by shadow governments known as mafias.
"Italians will be Italians"
I bought the Osprey book on this battle when it came out a few years ago, I keep meaning to read it, especially since Kelly DeVreis is the co author. I think I will start today after seeing this.
The Campaldino book is really good by Osprey too.
That Ubaldini move was fantastic.
Please do a episode - life/bio of John Hawkwood.

One thing I would love for you to cover some day is some of Swedens earlier military history. We've had beef with the probably since viking times, and there are many interesting battles and seiges there. The destruction of the impenetrable fortress of Marstrand is a personal favourite.
*beef with the Danish
To integrate I hotly recommend Schwerpunkt as the best channel about Medieval Italian warfare and history
He mumbles a lot instead of getting to point
He's got good info, but he's long-winded, doesn't structure his material well, and goes off on too many 21st century political rants.
Historymarche is way better tbh

There is a game called Mount & Blade Warband, and Hackwood Famous White Company is there.

There's no white company in the base game their mate but you can recreate the white company there

I feel like a chapter of the story is missing at 9:45. Ubaldini is chasing Serego with a larger army, however during the defense of Padua and afterwards Paduans are outnumbered by the Veronese. So I'm wondering what happened to this army? I can understand they might not have made it to defend Padua on time, but where did the army go after? Did their contracts expire, was Padua unable to pay them?
So good.
I wish that dude that made the carthage game woukd make more. I need a 4x bro. Come on lets get this done. I love that game. Tho short its dope.
Carthage game?
@@sirmagnifus7350 it's awesome it's called :carthage bellum punicum: it's about 4 bucks on the Play shop or the apple store. I got it on the play shop. But it's a small battle sim that uses the same kinda blocks for units as the videos. It has a campaign mode and a few historical fights. It's not a huge game but it does have a small economy mechanics, with a upgrade system and technology tree and a basic to hardened veteran skill system. It's kinda sweet for 4 dollars. It's like a really small total war campaign. That has carthage invading through the top of Africa into Gaul and threw the alps to Rome itself. I thought it was cool. You can set up units and employ old battle commands with messengers and stuff. It's kind cool I think. It even has a few sneak attack battles.
What are the editing apps you use for your videos
Please do more modern battles eg Oudenarde and the genius of Marlborough
The Band of the Hawk! (Had to get that Berserk reference in there!)
You had me at Polenta, Ferrero, Carrera and Ferrari. Just kidding.

The map at 5:03 is incorrect. Ferrara was under Este (Niccolo II), not the Papal States during that time
With a name like that *John Hawkwood* must of been of Anglo-Saxon stock!
