Jbugs videos are simply the best! You've helped this novice install a new trans core, a new engine, new disc brakes and fix many things along the way. All of your videos are so helpful! Thank you!
I went to a car show a couple of weeks ago, and the retaining clip that holds the pin into the master cylinder brake rod must not have been peened over. The pin fell out and lost my brakes pulling into the show. Luckily, I was only goingn5mph and used hand brake.
We've never had any issues with DOT3 on street cars. For more performance oriented cars we run DOT4, after making sure that all the DOT3 fluid has been flushed out.
Not typically, no. "Universal" calipers (calipers that fit the left or right side of the car) will have two bleeders so the caliper can be used on either side. The upper bleeder is bleed as air bubbles will be at the top.
The process is the same for drum brakes, but yes, we have done a few bleeding tutorials as people seem to struggle with it. Here's one - ua-cam.com/video/qt3WQmv8SX0/v-deo.html
No spacers between the two chassis sheet metal panels. Not surprising. But not replacing these important parts is very cheesy. They are there for a good reason. Light torque on two 8mm bolts (not 13mm) to not crush sheet metal... I think one good panic stop will shift your master cylinder and make it loose.
You are correct, the spacers absolutely should be installed. As our car was and is in the process of being restored and not driven regularly, and didn’t have the spacers in when we pulled the original, we couldn’t put them back in. Regardless, the spacers should be installed.
Nothing online as of yet, we do have our interior restoration DVD which covers the installation of a conversion style headliner, seat upholstery, door panels and the front and rear carpet kits.

I followed this procedure step by step and it worked. Thank you JBugs!
I wish I had this video 15 years ago also.
Better late than never? Except with brakes and stopping perhaps....stopping late isn't ideal.

I’m putting new front brake drums on my 1963 VW Beetle my question is could I still utilize my old bearings on the new brake drums?
Yes, if the bearings are in good shape absolutely. The hard part is removing the bearing races from the old drums.
@ Thank you 👍

Bleeding the master cylinder is not required?
BENCH bleeding the master is not required, no. The whole brake system does need to be bled like normal.
@@Sam_Mebane This works best with a vacuum pump initially? The two person method has not been effective for me.
@@nholland8737 it can definitely help!
@@Sam_Mebane Follow up bleeding drum question: Should the shoes be adjusted tight against the drum when bleeding?
@@nholland8737 they should be adjusted normally, no need to over tighten them.
Thanks for the video... why not DOT 4 brake fluid?
We've never had any issues with DOT3 on street cars. For more performance oriented cars we run DOT4, after making sure that all the DOT3 fluid has been flushed out.
If there are two bleeder valves per wheel do you have to bleed both?
Not typically, no. "Universal" calipers (calipers that fit the left or right side of the car) will have two bleeders so the caliper can be used on either side. The upper bleeder is bleed as air bubbles will be at the top.
What brake reservoir are you using? Do you have a part number for this one, and do you sell it?

Is there a tutorial for drum brakes (rear)?
The process is the same for drum brakes, but yes, we have done a few bleeding tutorials as people seem to struggle with it.

When turning the disc with NO brake pressure, how much drag is acceptable?
Should the vent in the cap be sealed,or capped off to prevent leaks?
The vent has to "vent". Do not block it off.

What type of solvent can I use to clean up brake fluid?
Soap and water will clean up brake fluid, no need for solvents.
do you have a carpet kit installation video?
Nothing online as of yet, we do have our interior restoration DVD which covers the installation of a conversion style headliner, seat upholstery, door panels and the front and rear carpet kits.
