Brian Lee, have you ever read any Preston & Child books? I think you would like them. I see them mentioned alongside James Rollins a lot. Their Agent Pendergast series is super fun. The first one is The Relic, which was the basis for that 90s movie, but it's a classic case of the book was better. I'm gonna give Rollins a try. He's been on my tbr for a hot minute.

James Rollins is one of my absolute favorite authors. I love his books and he's a great guy!! I hate the oblong size paperbacks also!!!

I DNF'd Map of Bones and Sandstorm but I totally agree with you about the shitty new "tall" paperbacks. Not only the height, but new mass market paperbacks are such shitty quality, paper, spine, etc. The new fancy dune MM's are so crappy.... Sad to say that MM's will probably vanish in the next five-ten years.
