    If you have voltage on the bios battery connector, you may also have current leak when the Laptop is not charging. Maybe you should measure the current from the bios battery. It should draw several Microamps.

      It's just this silly design... the main battery was 2V so the bios battery was switched in to power the cmos and eventually that small battery was used up too. Most likely the laptop had some kind of bios glitch where it stops charging the main battery. I have a Toshiba Z30T-C laptop that did the same thing and could only be fixed by removing the main battery then putting it back, then the EC chip would be reset and the battery would charge again for a few weeks but the fault would happen again and again. Fortunately the manufacturer fixed the issue with a bios update.

    Sorin, don't be that cheap, just buy some CR2032 batteries and just reuse the wires. You can remove the metal tabs attached to the battery with pliers and then just use tape to reattach it. Also your "new battery" is kind of low, a brand new battery should have around 3.3V.

      You can buy CR2032 with solder tags already on them and you solder to the metal tags. It is possible to solder to any battery but you must scratch off the coating to reveal bare metal in a small area. Then add flux and quickly solder the wires without over-heating the battery.

      That's absurd as even if s battery has sufficient voltage you must understand that's because it's not under load ...when a battery is bad apply a load and check for high resistance, over time the internal resistance builds until the battery is dead also its capacitance decreases over time as well...when their dead, throw them away sheesh 🙄.

      @@Timpano_Francesco_Repairs I've followed Sorin for years, he IS an expert technician that's not debatable however yes the battery he attached may have the same voltage but being smaller it may not have the same capacity....does this matter? Doubtfully considering it juices itself from the laptops voltage when powered on. The battery he had was a good battery he said, if you've ever watched him test batteries in the past you'd know he knows what he's talking about, I've seen him revive batteries from the dead 🔋 ☠️.
      Here I'm certain he was joking when he said he'd keep that battery, I'm sure he tossed it. He only cut the connectors and attached his good battery because he said that's the only one he had rather than the standard 2032 in that laptop. That laptop will work fine, "proper good " no harm and no foul. But I took understand many that hasn't been in this business 20+ years would frown on swapping different components or flicking off a bad capacitor without replacing it but once you have had skin in this game for years and your an advanced in electronics components and repair methods you too will understand there's simply no need to waste customers time and/or money to order something as simple as a small lithium battery that will do the same thing the one on hand that's smaller with less capacity will do. 🔩⚡

    The battery drains faster when people use their laptop as a laptop. I always run my computers on the mains adapter. Then the battery lasts longer. I only need a laptop battery if I can turn everything off when the computer shuts down. The battery protects my operating system so that everything is shut down properly when work is finished.

    • @supergeekjay

      Problem is, by the time you NEED the battery, its wear level has dropped too low if you keep it on mains! My Dell 7390 battery has gone from 20% wear to 70% in just over a year. I hate non removable batteries, you can't easily swap spares out like you could older ones.

    LifeSaver Video!
    When you measure the BIOS battery, the voltage is dropping constantly. You measure 0.5V without the battery inserted. In this case, I think this job could potentially become a recurring issue in the future.
    My question is: Should there be a higher voltage to keep the BIOS battery alive for a longer time?

    • @g4z-kb7ct
      @g4z-kb7ct Місяць тому

      The voltage at the bios battery (when flat) was coming from a transistor. There will be a circuit connected that switches when the main battery is low and then the bios battery can power the cmos. This little battery is only there to keep the settings when the main battery is changed. It is not there to hold the cmos settings in normal use over a long period. It can supply power to the cmos for maybe a few hours at most, but in normal operation the bios battery is disconnected from the circuit by a transistor or something similar and is not used at all.

    I think in general I would not say charging a battery with any voltage is ok. You need to understand batteries, than it is safe to do, but even that case I rather limit the voltage. Li-ion cells over voltage is dangerous. When you try to charge a fully charged battery with high voltage and 3 amps, you can overvoltage the cells. BMS will prevent it probably, but if there is a minimal chance of an accident I rather not advise to do it.

    Didnt know you could charge a non-rechargable CR2032

    • @waynesallee-com
      @waynesallee-com Місяць тому

      Yes. All "non-rechargeable" batteries (power cell) are rechargeable. They just don't want you to know it. But the amount of power required to charge them is not very efficient, such that if you want a rechargeable battery, it's better for the amount of electricity it takes to recharge them, to use rechargeable batteries. Also once those batteries get old and weak, they won't hold much of a charge anyway. Also recharging "non-rechargeable" batteries requires a much more attention to battery temperature.

    I think you are a bit wrong about the bios battery, it is used pretty much all the time, but the current is so small that they typically lasts for 10 years, usually longer than a normal lifetime of a computer. Perhaps there is another fault using too much current from the bios battery?

    • @g4z-kb7ct
      @g4z-kb7ct Місяць тому

      No, there is a circuit that disconnects the bios battery and it is not used except when the main battery is low or missing. It is there only to save cmos settings when changing out the main battery. This problem happened because the main battery was low and not charging due to a EC chip glitch.
