    I like this. It goes somewhat further than just being a ration pack. Well put together and ideal for sticking at the bottom of your pack or in your vehicle. Thank you for the taste tests Eric.

    Pretty darn good for an emergency. Gives you some starter food and a way to get more food. Personally I would include 4 Nails (to make a racoon trap), a 1 liter water bag, a flat-pack stove (a la Russian MREs), 4-5 Water purification tablets, a couple more bullion cubes, and 2-3 cotton fire starters. If I opened it I would also throw in a small flashlight and a basic swiss army knife (although the derma safe razor is good in a pinch). Cheers.

    Peanut Brittle!😘 Not a bad looking kit! Maybe a little bit overpriced but kind of a lot of variety of things. It's kind of a bonus to have a bit of survival and first aid stuff. The inclusion of the boil pan is a nice touch!

    This would be a decent addition to you emergency bag, has some great items and the smaller food bar is a great idea. Thanks for sharing.

    Really enjoy your reviews on the survival/bushcraft kits. no nonsense and to the point. when you pay for them yourself, you don't gloss things over and give an honest review. Keep up the good work and stay safe.

      On another note, I've tried the Apple cinnamon survival bars from u.s.t. And they're probably the best tasting of all the bars out there. If that's even possible cause they all taste pretty crappy lol

    Really good to see that aluminium container to enable the boiling of water and very basic cooking, the outer, reinforced, sealable bag as a water container is also good.
    That peanut bar is exactly what would be needed, and the important thing to consider is to ration the amount you eat so that it will last as long as is possible until you can supplement your food with something you catch or trap.
    This is also one of the most difficult things to do, because we usually open a snack and eat it all in one go, but those valuable calories need rationing.

    I wish they would make these kits with foods that don't go rancid. Peanuts or milk products should be the last thing they use.

    I really appreciate the way you look at survival kits and what things you add. I look at things differently now with my kits. I liked your video on the $10 Walmart knives. But knives have always been the most important item in a kit and I just cant see a $10 knife being the one main tool I might be stuck with. I have recently found Oerla knives which are $20 to $29. I only have one so far but their fit, function, capability, and how well made they are is far superior to their price I believe I have finally found the knife I can both leave in a kit for years and feel very confident in their capabilities as I do with my more expensive knives. Since I started watching your videos I have also bought the razor knives and stuck them every where. You have saved me money too because I have wanted to buy some of these kits and watching you open them I have realized most of the time there isnt anything new or necessary above what I have.

      This depends on your situation. What emergencies are you most likely to face? Has your country done an assessment of its power grid should there be an EMP attack or a CME from the sun? Are you living near a coast? Are there sometimes forest fires in your area?
      What could go wrong determines if you are going to shelter in place or bug out. Do you have a second location you can go to? Are the people there ok with your animals?
      Best bet is to have food for 3 days for them if bugging out. If you are sheltering in place you could store up to 3 months worth of food, so it doesn't go bad if there never is an emergency.
      You could also buy or make a pack for the animal to carry. I would like to see the video of you making a cat wear one.
      Cats will let you stuff them all in the same crate btw. They act like they wont, but you turn that bish on its end and put them in from the top, they will have a new respect for you.

    • @james0000
      @james0000 3 роки тому

      My suggestion is to simply treat your pets as more people and individuals as well as emergency food ;) By that, I mean that you should evaluate each one's needs and wants. Prioritize the needs while making exceptions for morale boosting wants. If your cats love you, they will also bring you food in bad times, perhaps yours already bring you small kills. I suggest you always reward them for those gifts and then prep them and feed them back to the cat.
      I only ever had one cat and it was an alley cat that adopted me. I never tried to take it camping, but it would go on long walks with me without any leash or such. I doubt it would have worn a pack, but I don't doubt it would keep up with me on it's own.
      My last dog had a backpack/carrier/vest and went hiking and camping with the rest of us. He carried all of his own food/water/gear in that backpack and loved every moment of it as far as we could tell. When he saw that pack come out there was no stopping him, lol, not even deep snow... possibly because he had severe weather boots too and knew it.

    Looks like a pretty good kit, overall. I'd like to see your opinion of this, versus the BCB equivalents.
    About the only things, that I'd like in both, is some multivitamins.

  • @Jaybird196
    @Jaybird196 3 роки тому

    Btw, a number of rations, can have a significantly longer shelf life than stated for CYA purposes. Thing is, you MUST store them properly. Without that taste, texture, and vitamin content dwindles rapidly.

    Dont feed that nasty thing to that cat! Thats animal abuse. Lol. Great review Eric. I field tested a more advanced version of this years ago. Mine had a mylar blanket twine duct tape more food and gear. But did have that disgusting peanut patty. The extra boullion cube was nice when the cold settled in. I carefully opened the second threw the patty in the trash and repacked it with more food and gear plus leftovers from the test model. Lighter ferro a spoon real knife and better compass more cordage tinder flashlight etc. It took several tries but got it all in and sealed it with gorilla tape. Nice to have but bulky and weighty in my hydration pack which i gave away to a kid. Good to see a copy on the market.

    I recently found your channel. I've been having a great time watching all your videos. Like you, I am very interested in survival kits and gear. I live and fly in Alaska. So I am always looking for items to carry in my plane.
    There are two items that I always carry. First is a .44 magnum revolver. (Big Bears around here!) Second is a Surefire brand flashlight. To me, if there isn't a Surefire, its not a survival kit!!!

  • @davidbarclay3651

    I expected that this kit would have included at least one of those emergency water packets/pouches. Even if this ration kit is only supposed to help you get pass a day or two, isn't it said that water has priority over food?

    Hey, does the outside of the kit have the ‘best by’ date of the food items inside? I think that might be something to know before opening it.
    I did an experiment with the mainstay bars once. Opened the package, ate one cube and left the others in the wrapper. Ate one more after two weeks, and the last of it two weeks after that. Yeah, I didn’t notice any difference. They will last for at least a month after they are opened. 😉
    I started making my own “ration kits” (i.e. mre’s) about eight years ago. I’ve started eating the first ones which had a ‘best by’ date of 2017, and they are just fine. I think a couple of years is not going to spoil much of anything these days, as long as it isn’t stored where it gets hot.

    I have to disagree when you say it's not meant to be a survival kit, since a Frenell lens, fishing kit, button compass, "survival" knife, snare wire, a whistle, a pencil and a first aid kit aren't food. If it's not a survival kit it's trying real damn hard to look like one...
