    I got the Tiny Survival Guide a while ago and actually took the time to read it through a couple times, and gotta tell you, it is a very well laid out and thorough guide - actually quite amazing given its size. If nothing else, reading it gets you to think rigorously about all the aspects of different emergency situations. There's nothing else remotely like it out there.

    Needs a shelter item. Like a mylar blanket.

    The tins are available on Amazon for significantly less money. You can also buy the Bento Box style kits that Erik demonstrates. Like the French mess kits. You will not find a French mess kit for love or money anywhere

    I bought the mini survival guide and mini first aid guide for my homemade survival and first aid kits. I was trained in the military,and an avid hunter and camper, but the advantage of having reference material cannot be overrated. When your in a highly stressful situation, taking a moment to step back and plan your way out cannot be overrated. These guides are well written and contains a lot of information. They cannot take the place of prior training, but worth the extra once of weight.

    I had a world's worth of fun putting my little EDC together last weekend. It ended up weighing 500gms and is about the size of a largish sweet potato. But it drops into my handbag neat as anything. It holds almost 100 items including a foldable fire pit and a foldable cooking pot. Anyway, I did it really just for the fun. Finished it Sunday night. There were quite a lot of seriously miniaturised toiletry items, me being female. Well, that was Sunday. Monday night I was being helped into an ambulance by two nice medics, groaning in pain and holding my tummy. I had my handbag. Plus my EDC. It was a LIFESAVER.

    That knife takes a long time to sharpen. But the card is useful as a last resort. The survival kit leaves a lot to be desired. But I'm glad to see it comes with a water bag.

    Great video as usual, the cork goes inside the little spool of fishing line, it's apart of the survival kit in the MSK-1 knife that fits inside the handle.
    Thanks for sharing 👍

    When you're away from civilization any piece of steel you can get your hands on can be useful. One that is precut into useful shapes will save time.

  • @HollywoodTacticool
    @HollywoodTacticool 3 роки тому +3

    clearly those cards are not meant to be much, but it's better than nothing. and you can use it to sharpen a stick as it were. it's also a bit of a morale booster, the sense of confidence it gives you in a state of panic that even if woefully lacking you have SOMEthing rather than absolutely nothing. thanks for that mini card the first one, i think i'll invest in that

    Why not just cut a thin sliver off the widest end of the cork? Having a float is still a boon, even iff you have other things available, so it'd still fit in for its intended purpose.

    I didn't get a Fresnel lens with MY Tiny Survival Guide. By the way, since Monsieur Fresnel was French, the 's' is silent.

      ... and it's FRAYN-EL or FRAY-NEL or finally... FREZ-NEL... but that's just how THEY say you should say it, lots of family names get mispronounced... and it often depends on what part of the family hears you, some may say it one way while others say it another.

    I used to watch UST when I was young and he really got me excited about survival. Now I know a little more I think he was more into selling equipment rather than actually reviewing kit.

    Re: the "weak" compass kit compared to a simple button compass. I think I remember reading somewhere on Dave's literature that Tiny Survival was never able to find an affordable button compass that would consistently and reliably point to magnetic north. The floating compass kit with magnetized needle is no doubt a PIA to put together and use while navigating overland. But the idea is it's a compass that reliably functions.

    • @gordontyree9858
      @gordontyree9858 2 роки тому +3

      Yeah, well said. I watched Dave’s video on the floating compass and it is quite impressive in my opinion. There are some button compasses out there that are quality compasses that are sold by Survival Resources. They are made in Japan, not China, and are well made and reliable as backup compasses. I would keep Dave’s compass in the kit as a backup to the backup, just in case! Also, it looked like fun to put it together, at least to me it did! LOL! Love Tiny Survival gear! They just introduced a Tiny Survival First Aid Guide the has the same format as the guide! Already ordered it from Amazon! Just my two cents!

    Got a video idea for you inspired by this compass.
    If you have a dial watch that works you can fake a crud compass using the watch, a string and the sun.

    Thanks for showing the last kit. I would never buy it. You would have lost the ferro rod if you were using it outside. The compass option is ridiculous. It is like they were to cheap to put a button Compass in the kit.
