That's my song which is playing in the background, folks. I'm Mark Longworth but I use the pseudonym SaulTiberiusNads on UA-cam. Craig recorded a superb cover of the tune, and it's his cover that's being used for the purposes of this vid. Good work, Craig! :)
First time I was surprised by how better perform Sonar on Vista rather than XP. Next time I was not so surprised seeing even better Sonar performance on Win 7. Now I'm using it on Win 8. Absolutely awesome performance results! I'm glad that being a programmer I know why it is so, and how hard people from Microsoft had to work to achieve such an excellent goal. Thank you, guys!
This is all very interesting... however, what I (and a lot of others) would like to see is a video where you tell us when you're going to fix all the bugs with the VS-700C integration that we've raised with you
patience, I'm sure the unusually long development time of x2a means we'll get a slew of fixes. this might sound hopeful but something tells me cakewalk will pull an early stable version out of their sleeves, we might not have to wait til x2d this time.
Another function that would set Sonar apart from DAWs if Sonar had true mastering function like Spectral Cleaning and the ability to produced Red Book-compatible CDs that can be can be configured to include copy protection, UPC/EAN, ISRC codes, pre-emphasis, and CD text with POW-r dithering, Import DDPand 2.00 Image Files (loadback) Cue Sheet (cue) support CD Architect CD image support Drag and Drop of Zip files with DDP Image Display of PQ-codes, ISRC, MCN, CD text RedBook compliance checking.
Thank as always, Craig. The Sonar documentation recommends putting the channel emulator's first in the chain, but you recommend at the end of the chain. Also, by default Cakewalk puts them at the end of the chain in the Pro Channel, yet, again they've said to put it FIRST in the documentation. Thoughts? :) Gavin
Old thread, but I havent seen the question elsewhere. So...the stated reason for having console emulation first is that it will affect everything after it, incl the ch insert effects (so deselect POST button).
WOW! I already heard that from Apple CTO answering question of "what you think of MS Surface?". He said "I personally didn't try it, but other people told it's not good enough". Dear friend, remember: Mac is based ONLY on Intel platform (forget PowerPC platform if you knew of that one) that means that the best Intel based product is Wintel. Saying "stable" according to any product don't forget to provide others with reference to a source of this knowledge. Otherwise you words cost nothing!
I do agree though, a dedicated linux kernel will outperform any OS for production use. It's just a matter of getting a company like cakewalk to develop the software support for it.
Sonar X2 has alot of great sounding plugins my only gripe is how Sonar X2 deals with loops because when ever I do a beat in another program and export it to Sonar the beat end being off and I have to line it up with the set loop points and sometimes the beat still be a little off.
There are definitely a lot of obstacles in developing a stable platform for software like Sonar on a platform like Linux, but I do think it definitely aught to be done sometime soon.
The moment Cakewalk announces Sonar for mac I start looking for a PC only alternative. With something like z3ta2 it's understandable but there's no reason to waste any development time on a daw coding for apple's slowpoke tin sheets.
I am trying really hard but can't see the diference... I hear some frequencies go louder when you turn on the emulator but, eyes closed I cant distinguish on and off
They try to make it look more like a mac, it's still windows through and through though. Every functionality that was ever in XP, Vista, and 7 is still there, it just looks different. I've repaired hundreds of PC's including many that are windows 8, it's not nearly as bad as people claim.
For a long time I don't care of MIDI and VST. I'm recording live instruments. BTW question was about Sonar but not Mac or Linux. Probably you have a reason to be so angry on Win 8. I haven't. Good luck!
I've never had a problem with loops not lining up. Make sure your play head is exactly where you want your loop to start. Problem solved. One thing or sure. Andi I can say this with confidence after 15 years with protools sonar x2 is 100 times better in EVERY way
If you don't have any loyalty to either then why does it matter? I'm a software engineer in my day job and what you wrote is 100% false. Mac or PC is simply a user preference. Windows has been very stable for some time now. The reason why Mac has a reputation for up time, is because they test a very limited amount of hardware OEM's with their own products, where Microsoft through their WHQL cert deals with a much wider variety of hard ware OEM's.
i have been using cakewalk software for years but when it turn to sonar it seem that the program cannot or looses its own files that you create. i have lost so many songs because when i open up a song i have been working on it says the audio is lost or does not exist, when i just recorded the day before. just does not work and i recommend nobody waste your time, money and effort on this program. if you try to get customer service you will be going in circles with no help! so unhappy with everything i lost..
Then good luck dealing with Protools and iLock, and paying thousands of dollars for basic plug-in functionality. Cakewalk may make a mac version, but they will only do so if it equals increased sales and profit. The DAW market is pretty flooded as it is.
"how hard people from Microsoft had to work to achieve such an excellent goal." The work would not have been so hard if they new how to do it right the FIRST time... 8 is a bloated mess that tries to me a Mac by duming the OS down to useless level. When 7 is outdated it is Linux Time Full Time, maybe sooner if they ever get Midi & VSTi working RIGHT!
sounds like you're "concern trolling". Sure there is a function on how efficient the OS can handle memory functions which is why Windows 8 has faster boot times than Windows 7 on the same hardware, and you can have a core i7 but if the software is not written to take advantage of multiple cores then it's not nessisarily going to buy you more performance. The rest of what you wrote sounds like fanboy drivel and has no basis in fact. I don't get into fanboy wars, if you like mac, go use a mac.

Yea Matt if Sonar had more pro mastering features and could work with loops more effectively it would be one of if not the best DAW's out.

can we say its the best sounding daw actually?

I think you might be mistaken, or have read an incorrect doc. I'm pretty sure i remember they said put it at the end (which also makes sense)
The current Cakewalk docs do suggest it go first.

Please post a link to your work so we can hear how a pro does it. Thank You.

Why would cakewalk want to throw money in the garbage like that?
i wonder how this compares to steven slates console emulator

thanks
from what i read samplitude pro X is still the best choice
Ok, thanks =D
I think it's more a question of getting a hardware company to develop drivers that have to be baked into a GPL-ed kernel.
