*More Tips:* For those who cannot get an Open NAT. Here are some additional tips:
1. Ensure UPnP is enabled on your router.
2. Reserve an IP address against your console via DHCP.
-- Doing 1+2 above helps give you a more stable UPnP experience, and a better chance of getting an Open NAT.
3. Try loading an older game, Call of Duty Ghosts, for example opens the NAT everytime.
4. If all else fails, use port forwarding. Visit portforward.com which lists the ports you need to open for your game. It will also give instructions on how to do port forwarding on your router.
*Additional Tip (Feb 2017):* Having personally experienced this issue again the only way I could get the PS4 to open ports via UPnP is the following:
a. Shutdown PS4 and unplug it from electricity.
b. Power off any network switches between your home router and PS4
c. Power off your home modem and router.
d. Wait 1 minute
e. Power on your modem; wait 1 minute.
f. Power on your router; wait 1 minute.
g. Power on your switch (if you have one); wait 30 seconds.
h. Power on your PS4
i. Your PS4 will open up ports automatically upon sign-in. However, newer COD games still do not make proper requests. Old games such as Call of Duty Ghosts opens the port everytime.

That suggests that your friends have a NAT type issue and/or one of them is using a netduma and is blocking you via the geofilter which will cause a false NAT type error message to be generated.

what that it mean when you make a party and when your friend joins it says they cant talk because of nat type
When you rebuild database does it remove everything from your ps4 such as apps and your progress in games?
+Zetzii it does a filesystem check. So short answer is no. If hard drive relatively healthy and filesystem you won't lose anything. It resets the dashboard and so you have to go to Library to launch your game first time round. If hard drive dieing or filesystem seriously corrupt then you have lost data already and just don't know it. This will be rare, and in this case the rebuild database will expose this to you.

When I go on black ops 3 and when I try to join a friend's lobby it says I can't because it's says NAT Type: Strict. What should I do?
I had something similiar tonight. I powered off my PS4 completely, rebooted my router. Fired up my PS4 and launched COD Ghosts, which opens port 3074. I do not understand why the newer games (or ones that just recently got an update) are not making the proper upnp request; but it seems to be a trend at the moment. Anyway, if you cannot get it to work still. Manual port forwarding is the only way to go. You need to port forward to your console's IP address, port 3074 for UDP. Visit portfoward.com on instructions on how to do this for your router.

The rebuild database worked for me. I usually play ion Xbox One but fired up my PS4 this morning to get Black Ops 3 for free and had a moderate NAT. I know my router has UPnP on so I tried this method and it's now open. Thank you brother. 👏🏽👍🏼✌🏼️

Nice work in finding the fix, It now works for me i did have to rebuild database a couple of times, Power off my PS4 plus reboot my Duma but the magic port 3074 has returned, Sony need to sort this issue out, Cheers Sim

I can’t put on my online mode Because for me it say That i am online but not for my friends and when i want to talk party it says nat type on all of them. Plz answer its been like this for 3 Months now
So about a month ago me and my friend were in a party chat and everything worked fine. Now we tried to get in the party chat and my friend says my mic wont stop cutting in and out and then out of no where it says that chat isnt available possibly due to nat type. The game we were playing was gta so would theese methods work in my situation?
Yes. The simplest tip to try first is the electrical shutdown (full power off, unplugged) described in my pinned comment. If that does not work; then try the rebuild database. When you rebuild the database (filesystem) it resets the dashboard, so all your games are still there, you just have to go into the library to launch them for the first time.

+olivier van geeteruyen all you need is NAT type 2. I have never seen nat type 1 reported on the PlayStation. So yes this video and the pinned comment with tips will help.

Does the PS4 report Nat Type 2 on the network test? Have you see my pinned comment which lists the games that open up the port correctly. FYI - Infinite Warfare doesn't; hence need to load another game first that does. Fantastic hey! :(

From looking at my pinned comment that starts 'PLEASE READ: Additional Tips', here is the extract relating to games; so fire up Destiny, Ghosts, Advanced Warfare, MWR, get to the multiplayer screen where in COD it says open nat. Quit that game, and then launch Infinite Warfare.

@callmesim is it okay if my ps4 is loud when I play games, like the fans get loud but I took it to the shop I got it from and they said it overheats in silly amounts but I don't know what to do to make it any quieter
Yeh, like the PS3, the PS4 does appear to fill up with dust, and that is why the fans are working overtime. Generally the case for more intensive games. My XB1 on the other hand that looks like a VCR, is obviously bigger and a lot quieter than the Xbox 360 which had overheat problems, i.e. the infamous red ring of death issue. I guess it depends how much it is annoying you. If your PS4 is older than 1yr (i.e. outside its warranty), there are guides on youtube etc. on how to clean. I've never done this; but care is required, special screw drivers etc. I've been tempted to do this with my PS3 as that can compete with a vacuum cleaner in the summer, but it is an original, and probably like you, I'm concerned about breaking it. Generally once I've finished gaming, I leave the console on for a good 5 minutes before shutting it down.

The tips in the pinned comment gives some additional things to try that have helped others, if you have not given it a go.
ive used the port 3074 , but my friend that lives with me needs to do the same, but the router wont let him use the same port. any suggestions on what port would work?
Yeh manual port forwarding of 3074 unfortunately doesn't work; even if upnp did it, a lot of games these days on PS4 are lazy and will only use 3074. What they are meant to do is grab the next port like 3075, then 3076, as you add another console. Have you tried allocating 3075 to the other PS4? It probably won't work, but it is worth a shot.

PS4 and PS3 have always reported Type 2, even when you get an Open NAT in game. Nothing to worry about.

Nice one sim, this has worked great. I couldn't get an open nat type manually port forwarding for multiple consoles. But this fixed it, cheers.

Cool for checking out those tips. Soz to hear you are having problems with GTA. I don't own the game, so cannot test etc. I take it you've tried manually port forwarding? And double checking you only have one PS4 in your house?
simjc74 I have done port forwarding. Dmz, static ip. Dns. Pretty anything I could do. But one thing remains getting a public ip instead of private one that 80 % solves the issue. I hope it does to mine too. And yeah I only have one ps4

If you've done upnp enabling; done the electrical power off sequence and power on sequence in the order listed and you do not get open NAT, and have no other COD to launch (listed as working) or Destiny; you will have to use port forwarding for udp port 3074. Again link to website in my pinned comment that will guide you through it as there are 1000s of routers out there.

I understand there is a big patch on the way. Have you tried doing a full power off and power on again? Sometimes things like this need a fresh power on/off, to clear caches etc. to bypass the problem.
how do you get nat type 1 when you do test conection though? i used to have on ps3 but since i bought my ps4 and i upgrade fios i get nat type 2 all the time and moderate nat
I've never seen NAT Type 1 ever reported, the best I've ever got on PS3 and PS4, is Type 2. I still get Open with it. The newer CODs with the latest game patches seem to be a bit flakey. If the steps in the video didn't work, and you've tried powering off modem, router and PS4, and made sure your router has upnp enabled. Firing up an older COD generally opens the ports and then you can play a newer game.

This method does not work. Port forwarding is the actual fix. Sony even tells you this if you cared enough to actually do your research.

The electrical power off (full shutdown) sequence described in my pinned comment usually does the trick. The rebuild database option post that then will sort it if the PS4 is still playing up.

upnp is not a setting you can disable/enable on ps4. It is only on the router, which should be enabled by default.

Do you mean that is what the PS4 is reporting? The PS4/PS3 is very inacurrate when reporting speeds. Using a PC will tell you the true speed.

NAT Type 3, wow! You have UPnP on your router and enabled? If no UPnP option visit portforward.com which gives you instructions on how to port forward on your router and open up the ports for your game of choice.

If you play COD, and have an old one like Ghosts, it opens it up everytime. BUT if your PS4 is reporting NAT Type 3... not sure what is going to happen. I assume you've powered it fully off along with routers etc.

Well done for recognising this; a word of advice having been exactly where you are, do not do sub for sub. It just doesn't work. Sub to channels you enjoy, genuinely comment on videos you like etc. and you may get other people following you as a result. Twitter is a must, and link the too. Perhaps also think about doing an Avatar update; your channel doesn't represent the whole of Canada right? Yeh I understand the issue. What should happen is PS4 (number 1) should use 3074 and PS4 (number 2) should use 3075. BUT sony doesn't seem to do this. I haven't tried this as I do not own two PS4s; but what you can try is put one of your PS4s in a DMZ, give it a static/reserved IP address, and port forward to it. The other PS4 leave as is, to use UPnP. This may then give you open nat for both. You will once setup, switch off both PS4s, and then router/modem. Switch the modem/router on first, and then fire up your non DMZ ps4, and then your other ps4. You may have to swap the PS4 switch on order. Anyway, have a go, and let me know if that works. I have internet speed 300mbps download & 30mbps upload. About 3 months I played w ps4 and when I tested internet was okay about 200+ download and 20+ upload. But 1st I was tryed dmz and I think it was same not any differenc in game and when I test internet speed was same too, then I tryed port forwarding for ps4 and same too, and before 2 or 3 days I enabled upnp but I was not checked internet speed and when I check today download goes to 100+ -200mbps & upload 1.0+ -3.0mbps. So what does mean this and its ok or not or what can I do?
Btw Nat type is always Type 2.

I used the first method for COD : Infinite Warfare it says Nat Type open, I can find match's quickly but they still freeze in the loading screen or before I begins the match I get kicked out saying I was unable to connect same with Modern Warfare remastered 😢 anyone got any help?

I heard enabling upnp is a huge security risk, is this true? I don't want to enable it on my router if there is a chance something could happen
+Cass Karns Upnp is a fundamental feature to the way networking works. The only security risk is having a rogue application installed on your computer, i.e. a Trojan horse. That is why we have virus scanners. I have had upnp enabled for over a couple of decades with no problems.

nat type affects matchmaking predominantly, and how the server can talk to you. Thus your online ingame performance will suffer, especially when partying up with friends. Avoid Strict.
So basically, turn it off and on again, but properly unplug it from the wall when you turn it off.
jojopetv yep the ps4 needs to properly initialize its network hardware, which its OS does not do. Hence the powering off of your ps4 and router + modem. Ps4 powered back on last. Take note of the games that require port forwarding to work.

What ei i use when i have a strict nat
ive got a type 2 nat, party chat refuses to work i dont get no errors i just cant talk to my friends and they cant hear me, im in the chat but speaker icon just flashes next to peoples names as if its loading or something but never does, fk knows why? could be my internet people say but then explain how i can play an online using in-game chat perfectly fine yet psn party wont work! if it was my internet NONE of it would work! according to breakpoint my nat is open.

So I did the rebuild database, and I got a screen saying the database is corrupted and it won't rebuild the database. Anything else I can do?
Oh dear that sounds quite severe. You might have to do a backup onto an external drive which the playstation will want to be formatted as FAT32. Format HDD inside Sony PS, and re-install. This is worst case scenario. Step by step guide in ua-cam.com/video/Aau2xKReoCs/v-deo.html

I have a 200+ mb/s connection but it says I have a strict bat type. It's a brand new factory PS4 so I don't get why it's doing that. On my last one it would randomly switch from open to strict. I'm on Ethernet cable btw...

my ps4 says i have type 2 and open nat in games but i cant join others than opens
when I do a Internet connection it says I have nat type 2 but on the game my nat type is always strict how do I get my nat type to moderate
NAT Type 2 from a PS point of view in my experience has always meant you can get an Open NAT. Have you enabled UPnP on your router? Have your turned off your modem, router and PS4. I mean proper shutdown and unplugged from electric? Also have you done the rebuild database thing as per video. I now do this everytime I have a PS4 system update.
I've tried port forwarding and upnp and still nothing... It keeps giving me external and internal ports of 9308 -_- im getting annoyed... maybe it has something to do with the netduma not liking infinite warfare.
No it is Infinite Warfare. Do you have an old COD like Ghosts? This will open up the port reliably everytime.

I would suggest doing a rebuild database; and then follow the tips in my pinned comment; especially the power-off sequence, and I list games (ones i own) which open the ports and those that don't.
I wanted to play KOF XIV online but NAT TYPE 2 is not connecting game. I only get static IP but never forward the ports. could your video method can help to play KOF XIV online? please help me
The PS3/PS4 have always reported Nat Type 2 for the best case scenario. I've never seen type 1 ever reported. If you have upnp enabled, or you use port forwarding it should work. The PS4 just needs coaxing to work properly. The power off sequence listed in my pinned comment at the top really really helps! Be-aware some games unfortunately do not open up ports correctly, certainly in the world of COD. _Sim_

If I do rebuild database, everything wipes out from my system? What about save files? Do you recommend doing rebuild database? My PS4 is from EU launch date, soon 3 years old. Maybe I"ve done once rebuild database.
How netduma fixes this? I have enabled upnp from the settings. I still get moderate nat, but PS4 says Type 2. Does it affect that we have 2 ps4? Much would appreciate your help Sim!
Offtopic: why geofilter on netduma doesny work? I dont see red dots on tje map.
Consider rebuild database like a disk check. It generally does not wipe
stuff. My save games etc. are all still there. However, if you have a
very sick HDD then stuff can disappear because it is severely corrupt
and you've already lost it, you just don't know. So try this first. Then
reboot both console and router, and see how it goes.

Just checking, but I assume you have tried all the tips in the pinned comment, and still have had no luck? If so, have you powered off all other consoles/computers, and switched off wifi on mobiles, and then tried the power off router and console. If it then works, some other device in the house was grabbing key ports.
