I just can’t find more explanation into the downsides of it or risks. I know you’ll be in the dmz zone of the internet but can’t find a video explaining how you will actually be exposed to malicious attacks.
Just a sidenote since I work at tech support in my local ISP.. after following these great instructions on how to get Nat Type 1.. if you do all these steps and still have Nat Type 3 you have to call your tech support of your ISP and you can request disabling private IP adress or turning the CGNat off. After that you can check your Nat Type and if It's type 2 then you are good to go with these instructions in order to get type 1.
NAT TYPE 2 is still the recommended configuration for you to have best of both worlds, security and bandwidth latency. If you do not know the acronym of NAT type, your should probably research more and educate yourself on the implication of opening your device to a public address.

Some Routers lacks settings that do not offer NAT switching options. And it may take forever for your internet provider to make the adjustments (over the phone for me). Also you can find a simpler form of your PS4 information in System> System Information.

What are you all talking about ??? Your Nat type has nothing to do with your internet connection being good or bad as if it's a podium place. Nat 1 = directly plugged into a modem (1 IP address) Nat 2 = plugged into a modem/router (many IP addresses 192.168.....) Nat 3 = restricted (network problem) I made John Glasscock aware of this yrs ago as the video description was misleading.

You probably know this is very dangerous. A better way to improve latency might running a DNS test on non cached websites and choosing the fastest most stable one. Switching to wired from wireless. Finally, opening up the ports that your games tend to favor.
Good points, and thank you for the feedback. The nice benefit of NAT Type 1 is that it can automatically open your system up to ports, which makes it much easier than figuring out the best ones manually via port forwarding.
I like your videos but I don't think nat type 1 is safe. Its a lot easier to be hacked on ps4 if you bypass the firewall. So I wouldn't recommend leaving these settings on for extended periods of time. You can always set a static ip for your consol and open specific ports for the game you're playing. Overall I really like your channel! Its straightforward informative content and you're doing an awesome job 😀

Using DMZ is basically exposing your PS to the internet, basically meaning that anyone accessing your PS over the internet, also has access to your local network if he knows what he is doing. DMZ is the dumbest thing you can use, unless the PS is the ONLY device on your local network.

Currently, I have never heard nor observed any instance that a PS4 was compromised as a result of an Open NAT. To this day it has only helped me with my online multiplayer experience tremendously, especially in terms of matchmaking speeds and lag smoothness.
As a former networking professional. This helpful guy is sorta misinformed. NAT is network address translation and used to save ip addresses and make connections easier. Changing it to NAT 1 could in theory improve speeds because the router isn't needing to process the address from the router to the ps4. The NAT from the ISP to your router is set already by the the ISP and that information includes your physical address.
Yo, just FYI NAT1 is not secured. It’s Open NAT. If your PS4 is out in the DMZ that may be ok. If not you may be opening your network to the entire internet. There are semester long courses on NATing. Making it trivial may be a disservice.

For a gaming application like the PlayStation it won't make a difference. I have never experienced any issues, nor observed anyone else ever having issues, as a result of having an Open NAT (Type 1) on the PSN.

Don't do this. This is a easy way for hackers to steal you credit card information tied to your machine.. if you want to get robbed, go ahead and do this
This doen't have anything to do with your NAT as such,...its just opened all the ports for the PS4....NAT Type is to do with how many devices or sub stations or relays your connection has to go through before it reaches the exchange....you either have NAT Type 1 or you don't, due to the location. It may sometimes be possible go from NAT type 2 to NAT type 1 if you open the ports (DMZ) but if you were not in a NAT type 1 location to begin with, you would stay on NAT type 2. Going on the DMZ does not inprove latency (speed/ping) either, it just allows you to join everyone..even players on Strict or Moderate connections, as you've opened all your ports. The only way to improve you connection speed (latency) is to rent a Leased Line connection but this is Business Class product as the Contention ratio is 1 to 1..unlike broadband which is up to 300 to 1 contention...but you will need at least £250 -£300 per month for 100mb connection in the UK, not sure how much in the US. Also, NEVER put your PC or Laptop, or any network device on the DMZ...you can be port scanned. PS4 is generally safer. Hope this helps

FYI… on the PS4, Type 1,2 or 3 and the in game Open Nat type are two different things.

Nat 1 is less secure for your Ps? what are the risks? or is not to worry about?

Dont dz your pc ip address cause someone could remote freely or "hacked" your pc. Interm of ps4.. since PS4 is more closed system, Only to play games. Doubt someone will hacked it.
I know it's 2 years ago but just because he says he's not heard any issues i have. My brother did this and 3 months later got hacked and all his banking was corrupted since most people have their bank card on ps4 to buy games, they also took all his games to. DO NOT DO THIS, ITS LIKE LEAVING YOU FRONT DOOR OPEN AND ANYONE CAN WALK IN. there's a reason ps4 is set up to NAT 2. Safety. And it makes no difference in gaming online, because the game itself has a safe port to put you in, NAT 1 does nothing. Find what the game runs on, and proceed there. This is very dangerous information you're giving out, how do we know how many friends you have ect. DONT TRY AND FIX WHAT ISNT BROKE IN THE FIRST PLACE. It's easy to run a cable threw you're home, he's obviously too lazy to do this. After all this that's what my brother did, and that in itself made his ps4 run faster.

Hey John I got a question umm so my brother bought skyrim on the ps4 a long time ago and a few weeks ago i noticed I didn't have the game anymore so I went to the playstation store and there was only the vr version and the special edition and I remember there being a normal edition because I even once told my friend about it and I think they deleted but if that happened would my game be deleted too? I'm a bit stressed cause it is Skyrim pls respond if u can
