Hey Jerika! I make shower steamers for my small business :) the key to a strong shower steamer that doesn't break apart is 1. the mixture should be the consistency of damp sand, to test this you should squeeze some of the mixture in your hand and it should stay together, the fact that you said was powdery means it wasn't damp enough, one tip to get your mixture damper is to use witch hazel in a spray bottle and spray about 5-10 spritz repeatedly until you get that damp sand consistency :) and 2. it's all about pressure, you have really press down hard to make sure it's really compact in the molds! And it's best to leave them overnight/next day to dry and set, I hope I helped :)
@@sjastram they would be considered cosmetic like soap but if depends on the use, if its antibacterial or its used for treating something like eczema that would be considered a drug like sun screen is considered a drug
I really appreciate watching the process of a new product.... after reading some of the comments once again I am so appreciative of the willingness to share their ideas and suggestions for further improvement of the product.....this type support can’t be bought......is a real value to ‘the community’......
We use moon cake press Molds and they work great! I would try Try 70% rubbing alcohol instead and cut back on the clay. We love your videos! Thank you so much for sharing all of your info😁❤️
Wow jerika 32k I still remember when I first started watching you and only having 100 followers haha this is great well done keep up the good work your an inspiration
I make shower steamers for my business!! 😁💚 The main ones I make are designed for congestion, and they're a huge customer favorite! 😁 I offer a few different scents, but the congestion ones are the top seller (I add eucalyptus, spearmint, peppermint, and tea tree as well with spearmint & peppermint leaves). I don't put any clay in mine, and I use alcohol-free witch hazel as my binder. They have the perfect texture! I've noticed that the menthol crystals, when melted, bind to the essential oils, making little "chunks" instead of easily distributing them throughout the dry ingredients - that's part of why shower steamer mixtures can be so so dry. And that's why I use witch hazel instead of alcohol because when I'd use alcohol when I first started, the smell was overbearing because I had to use so much (again, because the mixture is so dry lol). Thank you for sharing this with us!! I have faith you're going to get it! 💚
Be prepared to get these questions with shower steamers: can I rub it all over my body, can I use a shower steamer as a bath bomb, why didn’t the steamer work with a cold shower? It is important with helping and educating customers but these questions do make me chuckle inside. Be prepared but I’m sure they will be a hit for you. 💕My customers love them !
I appreciate how you tried something new and shared the experience. You’re a true professional. You worked the problem until you found a solution. This is why your business is so successful. I sincerely hope you figure out how to make shower steamers a new product line for Quence. Best of luck!
Hey Jerika - I have the bath bomb press...I was having a difficult time. Someone suggested I use Only Witch Hazel and add a small amount of oil. The mixture is a tad wet. I used the heart mold - but only weighed in 2 oz and they came out great. Good Luck - Sometimes I find the bath bomb press frustrating - well until you get the recipe right!
I would also recommend using witch hazel as it is a little more sticky. I don't add any additional oils or clays or anything since its really just supposed to release the EO into the shower but Iv'e never shipped them I have no idea if my recipe would break apart in transit. I only sell them at the market or local pickup.
Awesome Jerika, I don't have a bath ( I have a shower) at home for this reason I have not watched any of your bath bombs videos but this shower steamer video is a MUST-WATCH for me
I actually bought shower steamers from a small business after my near death with covid. I had never used some before but that seemed like a good pampering thing to try. Loved the eucalyptus one to help with my sinuses since I did have both viral and fungal pneumonia! I think it would make a great addition to your line once the recipe is perfected 😊
Hi Jerika, we make our steamers with our regular bath bomb recipe and add menthol. We press them in the hexagon mold from the Bath Bomb Press and it works great! Hope this helps!
I use cornstarch as a binder and spray in my water until it gets really hard to stir. You can the citric acid toward the end if you're worried about activating it but it's ok if it does because it's in the shower🤷♀️ I use a cupcake tin for a mold and smash it to death until it's firm. Keep trying, once you'll get it, it's easy 😊 my costumers love them!
Hi Jerika, I like your teaching videos. I would like to make shower steamers for my soap business. If you try adding coconut oil and witch hazel water to help keep them hard. Yes, maybe reduce the clay as it absorbs all the water added. I am looking to get a mould like the black one you used to get started, hopefully will find a suitable one.
Hello! Love watching you guys! I have a small business and use the bath bomb press. I bought a shower steamer recipe off Etsy from TwoWildHairs and it works perfectly with the press. Its worth the investment!
Hi jerika and Kayle . I'm from South Africa and I have recently restarted my beauty products business again and i love your videos and recipes and tips. You are a very motivating person both you and your husband. Been wanting to say for 6 months now really enjoyed Every video and process you go through.please keep up the good work. Unfortunately the. Bath bomb press isn't easily available for purchase in my country due to demand but the moon. Cake press is and so are other options. Do take care and your efforts are appreciated
Hey jerika Iv made shower steamers in ice cube trays a lot easier than bath bomb moulds needs to be like wet sand just press into the trays unmold after 12 to 48 hours hope this helps you 🥰
I don’t use kaolin clay just baking soda, citric acid, a lil bit of poly 20 and essential oils. Mix it all together and spray with witch hazel if it’s to dry. I press the mix into the brambleberry disc molds and let it sit for 24 hours. They have been huge sellers for me
Do these really scent up well in the shower? I bought Dr. Teals brand shower steamers once but was really underwhelmed by the very faded and short-lived scent! Are there things we can do to make them much more aromatic?
Love watching your videos. What else can you use beside menthol crystals to hold scent? I find menthol crystals dominate the smell when using fragrance oils, like blueberry or vanilla, all you can smell is mint :(
You should hold the mixture in your hands and them drop it into your bowl/ container, if doesn’t break you are good to go. I live in AZ and it’s pretty dry here so they are easy to make for me, also I prefer to use alcohol, not water at all, you will get it, they are amazing and people love them Also I use a round silicone mold for my small business
My shower steamers are amazing and I actually use your bath bomb recipe with a few tweaks removing things that aren’t necessary. My mix is a lot wetter than yours was so maybe a tad mode binder will have things smooth sailing.
I think the regular mooncake presses are the best. I've made shower steamers using them.. I use them for my shampoo bars as well as well. You can buy those on Amazon.
you are right they are sort of time consuming even when you get them down pat - also they are something that needs to be used fairly soon - I dont think they would be ok six months from now scent wise.
The Cada website has a great shower steamer recipe. I think yours were not wet enough. Mine feel like wet sand and are very cold when I mold them. Check out the Cada recipe. It is a great place to start! Love your videos.
We all have fails. Don't sweat the small stuff. When you have more time, like in the winter, revisit this. Have you tried the moon press molds that everyone else uses?
I use witch hazel and it’s a lot cheaper than what ra is at least in the states with covid. You can put your menthol crystals in either witch hazel or ra, put it in the microwave for a minute to speed up the process. After incorporating all liquids into mix, then add citric acid
HI. You cannot use water in shower steamers. Baking soda, Citric acid, Kaolin clay, alcohol, polysorbate 80, fragrance oil...Should not be wet at all just slightly damp. Spritz with 91% alcohol but if too wet will puff out. Also you need to put them in molds ad let them dry 24 hours in the mold before demoulding.
I was wondering if it is possible to shown the ingredients aso in grams like the bath bomb recipe because when i look it up there are alot of different weights for a oz and i am not sure which to take to try this...
Hi Jerika! I dont have a bath bomb press but if you like im willing to share my recipe with you to try out. I m able to make 24 steamers in 45 minutes start to finish.
Moon cake molds work wonderfully with shower steamer preparation and because you like the cloud type mold, you can buy one on Amazon... I've done cutie ones in small size for gifting.
Hey JZ! Check out Emilie Lefleur's video on Shower Steamers! Also, Dean Wilson has a great recipe for Shower Steamers! I use the Lotus blossom molds and they are beautiful!! Emilie's recipes are the absolute best! Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/_ppB-6RGn7I/v-deo.html
I use Emilie Lefleur's recipe and method and my shower steamers are my best sellers. HIGHLY recommend. I actually use muffin tins for shaping and they work really well. Make sure to let them sit for 24 hours to fully dry before removing them from the mold

Maybe you can answer. Are they considered cosmetics by the FDA?

definitely not wet enough

I prefer the moon cake molds, that way you can make them in a “1 shower” size, like 50g but also have the option to make larger or smaller as well 👍
Lol I use that size for my multi use ones if you take a 10-15 minute shower lol.
My Favorite UA-camr Jerika 😍😍😍 I love your videos and really appreciate you and how u take time to explain everything

I use 2 TBs of a light oil to help bind my steamers. I have the bathbomb press as well and my steamers are my number 1 seller!
Fail forward and positive way. I have many failures it goes with any buisness. Its all good. U got this hun. Great job.

Love your videos 😇 I’m learning a lot from your videos😇❤️🦋🦉
They need to be wet, like making embeds. I use witch hazel. I use witch hazel for bath bombs too. Rubbing alcohol dry my mixture out.
Hiya. Try putting 4% of a light carrier oil in. I do and they are as easy as bath bombs to make.
I always melt my menthol down in a light carrier oil like apricot and then add to my dry ingredients. It worked with my bath bomb xpress.
Jerika, for bath bombs the mixture needs to be dryish for the press, but for steamers it must be much wetter.

Love see the whole process. Did you try adjusting the psi on your compressor for the press?
I just love Kale's (Cale?) (I'm pretty sure I'm spelling it wrong) support. He's such a great guy!

I wonder if they are really considered like a bath bomb, or more like a candle or fragrance delivery device. Makes a difference for me in my state.

you are right they are sort of time consuming even when you get them down pat - also they are something that needs to be used fairly soon - I dont think they would be ok six months from now scent wise.
Great work
I use a little more isopropyl alcohol and some poly 80 to get a good mixture for hand and moon cake molds.
The Cada website has a great shower steamer recipe. I think yours were not wet enough. Mine feel like wet sand and are very cold when I mold them. Check out the Cada recipe. It is a great place to start! Love your videos.
Hi Jerika, this is the first time I hear about this product. How do you use it in the shower?
We all have fails. Don't sweat the small stuff. When you have more time, like in the winter, revisit this. Have you tried the moon press molds that everyone else uses?
I have been making them and using a moon press mold. They turn out perfect. I also live in Florida where it's hot
Don't use water
I was trying trying these this weekend
I use witch hazel and it’s a lot cheaper than what ra is at least in the states with covid. You can put your menthol crystals in either witch hazel or ra, put it in the microwave for a minute to speed up the process. After incorporating all liquids into mix, then add citric acid

Wonder if the Epsom salts recipe would work and replace Epsom salts with the crystals.. 🤔
fantastic we are from Australia
Jerika have you watched Tyars Essentials video on shower steamers with the bath bomb press? She also gives a recipe for them as well.
Try putting it in the mold you used from bramble berry( the octagon) I made these in there also I added poly 80 in my mix
I was wondering if it is possible to shown the ingredients aso in grams like the bath bomb recipe because when i look it up there are alot of different weights for a oz and i am not sure which to take to try this...
thank you
For me moon cake press works the best.
I just came across this video that did shower melts with the bath bomb press. Tyars essentials
I think if you scale back a bit on your additives / kaolin / cream of tartar ...and use a bit more water and your eos it might be better
Hi Jerika! I dont have a bath bomb press but if you like im willing to share my recipe with you to try out. I m able to make 24 steamers in 45 minutes start to finish.

That’s what happened to me when I tried making bath bombs! My steamers are great. 🤦♀️
i have pollen allergies, im working on shower steamer for my shop.
After watching your video. How about some polysorbate 80

Where do you buy your bulk essential oils? Thanks!
Wasn't it huge!!! I've never seen them so big like that. Usually the ones I see so big like that are just fragrance....major bummer
New Direction Aromatics by the look of the container.
Switch out the water for Witch hazel. 🙂
do your menthoyl crystals before you start - put them in alcohol like 30 mins before hand and they will be ready to go.
IT HAPPENS SOME TIME. ITS OK. YOU WILL FIGURE IT OUT.
Those shower steamers are huge tho.
Not wet enough try silicone mold let dry for 12 hours
Yeah, I also use silicone molds for my shower steamers :3
They aren’t damp enough
Hi
