Had the R1280 and decided to go straight for S880 and skip the R1700 (which edifier cs said to be a direct upgrade). The reason I picked these instead of other speakers in this price range is because the size, since I'm using it as computer speaker and will only be listening to these when using the computer, I didn't see the point of getting anything bigger, 5inch woofers just takes too much real estate on a desktop setup. In terms of build quality these actually feels premium due to wood finish and the white matte case, its very elegant and really goes well with a desktop setup since it doesn't stand out as much. The sound quality, wow what an upgrade from the R1280s, the sound stage is surprisingly wide for speakers in this price range, mid is well defined the highs are crisp, compared to the R1280 its miles ahead. I agree that the lows is not as present as the R1280, but its CLEAR, I can actually hear the tonal quality of the kick drums, in that regards its almost monitor like. I also own some Elac and the famous klipsch R15s, when compared side to side the S880s lack the presence of the bigger 5inch speakers, but when using as desktop speakers and nearfield listening, these are just as good.

Neither of them is bad. S880 is more forward. So it gives a full bodied sound and clarity straight to your ears. 1700 has that oldschool sound profile, warmer tone. It's kinda you're in the same room as the people who played it. Like, in a bar with a live band. This is something i miss from the 80s speakers really. I prefer 1700 over s880. S880 is just the typical clarity you can get in a headphone. Besides, 1700 has fuller range. It distorts a bit, but the imperfection is what makes it sounds "lively". Its just my preference because i like live sounding rather than full bodied.
S880db was set to Monitor mode in this comparison, that's why it sounds lifeless because that's how monitor acts to play as flat as possible. Trust me, I just bought this speaker and received today. When I set the S880db to Dynamic mode, it sounds very similar to R1700BT which is natural and lively. So, S880db wins here for being truly versatile and dynamic.
I tried the Edifier R1280DBs and the sound was pretty good but really too much bass. I had to turn down the bass -5db and I lightly stuff the bass port. After a week the remote control started to fail so I will return it. I assume the Edifier S880DB will have less bass but will sound better.
@@yongsua1989 The only thing that I'm afraid and doesn't make me pull the trigger on the S880DB is bass, how do you find it? Do they lack too much bass? This clip convinced me to get the 1700. The s880 sounds like a studio recording. The 1700 like a live performance, a bit of room distortion but a pleasant feeling of space. For mainly classic rock, acoustic and live albums I like the 1700 sound feels more appropriate. I wonder how much closer the 1700 would get to the s880 with the bass turned down a bit, or perhaps a slight source eq adjustment. Słychać to dosyć wyraźnie w utworze klasycznym. Brak sceny dla mnie jest minusem, za to możliwość pominięcia DAC'a i wpięcie S-ki bezpośrednio poprzez USB to spora zaleta. I bought the s880db in 2024, it made me sell my s2000mkiii, the sound of the s880db is much more natural and clear, the s2000mkiii sounds muddy and muffled regardless of audio preset or bass treble settings, it always sound muffled and muddy especially with songs with vocals, even the treble full open doesn't make any difference and the presets don't help either (I don't understand why the s2000mkiii has such good reviews tbh). The vocals on the s880db are so much clearer and natural, I added a subwoofer and it just sounds way better than the s2000mkiii. Also, the audio presets and bass treble knobs on the s880db change the audio much more than on the s2000mkiii, so the sound on the s880db is much more adjustable to your preference. The s2000mkiii only goes louder more easily but loudness is not my priority. I rarely play over bluetooth, if I do it sounds good, the s880db supports aptx bluetooth which allows high quality streaming.
It sounds weird because it was set to Monitor mode. Change it to Dynamic mode and it will sound like V-shape that everybody likes due to its natural sound.

I totally agree (when I am use my Logitech S523). For that reason I am right now listening using a FIIO K1 (USB DAC) in combination with a Beyer Dynamic DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm. For my point of perspective it looks to me that this gives a fair view about the speakers tested.

Is the bass that much of a difference? When you do the testing, how do you adjust the treble and bass knobs?
Thanks ;)
What did you get. Im into deep house too
@@ginolaxamana1960 I got the S880! They look and sound really good. Not the strongest bass tho.
880 is more defined and that is what matters most to me for desktop speakers
Edifier D12 vs R1700 Pleas!
Bought S880 today, going to return them back tomorrow. So disappointing
@@aliaksandrnaidzenka705 Except that there was absolutly no bass, there was some weird noise from the left speaker on some frequency around midbass, was like something interfered the speaker and it was rubbing. I've tried a lot of sound samples, different sound sources, but this noise was there.
Funny thing, I changed them on S1000, and they have the same problem :) Not like in 880, but I can hear it on some songs.
Słychać to dosyć wyraźnie w utworze klasycznym. Brak sceny dla mnie jest minusem, za to możliwość pominięcia DAC'a i wpięcie S-ki bezpośrednio poprzez USB to spora zaleta. Ciekaw jestem jednak czy elektronika w tych maluchach przerabia pliki DSD.
Would it make sense to buy Edifier S880DB in 2023? Is Bluetooth 4.0 really worse than 5.0 for music listening?
Frankly for me, i barely notice that speakers changed! Very little difference i think
depends on what equipment you are listening to. I listened them on a pair of cheap 5$ headphones and then on Sony and the difference is very clear.
Hi, the S880 have sub dedicated out? Sound like need s9me extra low freq.
I see new model, R1700BTs, this have sub out but not have optical :(
Get the 1850 or even better, 1855 that has BT 5.0. The only thing the 1700BTs has that the 1850 or 1855 dont is Hi Res Audio.
Thx digital Stereophony good review with speaker.
for the 200 less price tag I can definitely forgive the R17
S880DB sound weird. It sound like a 2.1 system with big satellite speakers without the subwoofer.
You mean like the satelitespeakers of the S350DB 2.1, perhaps? :D
It sounds weird because it was set to Monitor mode. Change it to Dynamic mode and it will sound like V-shape that everybody likes due to its natural sound.
The woofer of s880db is the same of airpulse a200?
Both use aluminum cone and similar dust cap, but they are probably completely different, especially that one is 5.5inch in diameter (A200) and the other 3.75inch (S880DB).
Is it the same as my S350DB satellite? Please
@@atle5191 No, s880db is better than the s350db satellite, s350db satellite has a smaller woofer of 25watt and lowest frequency of 160Hz and tweeter 15watt. s880db woofer 32watt 55Hz, tweeter 12watt. I own both sets the s350db satellite sounds unnatural, the s880db is much better.
Edifier R1700BT vs Edifier s1000mk pls
Easy for me - R1700BT. Warmer as opposed to the smaller, clinical sound of the S880.
S880 flat naturel sound.
it not natural
very helpful video
Tough choice - I guess it depends on the preferred styles of music. Where more instruments were involved (New Orleans Jazz, classic) S880 wins hands down. Boom bap is R1700 speciality :) But for the price that is twice smaller, R1700 is great product.
for me s880db on jazz sound distorted..
880DB was sound “thin” to me .. R1700BT has more bass .. but still thin … can’t expect better bass and sub-bass with those speakers .. 😅 headache if you have long listening session with those one ..
Deffinately the S880DB ..is the winner
S880DB wins (clarity due to better cone material perhaps?).
Better drivers, higher quality electronics (DSPs and amps), sturdier cabinets are the main reasons for higher clarity
@@DSAUDIOreview I listen to a lot of rock and metal. Please suggest which one I should go for. Please.
Conclusion for Edifier R1700BT :-
Boomy bass sticks out a lot
Slightly thin treble
Controls need a better finish

Thanks for the review~~~~. Thank you very much!! Digital Stereophony ~!
Can I get the song ID at 2:38

Answer me, please! What do you think is better for a PC: Edifier S880db VS Edifier E25 Luna Eclipse vs Edifier r1850db vs JBL LSR305 ??? (Sound card S.M.S.L m7) I'm interested in the quality of the sound! What kind of model would you choose for yourself! Thanks !!!
Out of these I would choose JBL. My second choice would be S880DB
the s880 seems to have a more dynamic ranger, the r1700 is warmer and bassier. s880 wins in my book.
Love my 1700
R1700BT
Can see r1700 stood out in the boom bang music at the end otherwise s880 wins most with a more realistic mids
R1700BT good
The bass of the r1700bt is totally uncontrolled. What a pity, it could be a very good speaker with the correct amount of bass.
or without bass, like s880.
no bass on the 880
i found funny thing about your comparison, its more easier to tell that which one is better when listening from shit speaker!
LOL
Interesing ;)
Biker You know, I noticed that it was easier to find some differences with my speakers than with my headphones, but I refrained to draw conclusion due to insuficient test, knowledge and aspects to analyze.
Now, because of you, I am forced to conclude and say: my speakers are shit!!!
hahahahaha
I totally agree (when I am use my Logitech S523). For that reason I am right now listening using a FIIO K1 (USB DAC) in combination with a Beyer Dynamic DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm. For my point of perspective it looks to me that this gives a fair view about the speakers tested.
EEEhhhh the S880!! ...dissapointing bass... but at least it has a subwoofer output right? A MONO subwoofer output... definitely not for me.
But still better than not having the option of some bass like most small speakers. It's something.
EDIT: Doesn't have a sub output I remembered it wrong or was misinformed.
S880DB does not have sub output. What You see on the back plate of S880DB is coaxial digital input.
It's true! I was almost sure they had, enough not to check (which I thought about doing)...Well, now they really are useless.
if you want the 880 with a sub there is the S350db.
S880DB is all about clarity and mid range performance, it's not meant for crappy bass heavy music like hip hop, dubstep etc...
1700 the best
1700bt
AirPulse A100 are way better than these 2 awesome speakers.
S-series is already good enough, A-series is overkill for me
Ye, they are also triple the price 🤣
driver is just too small....
i have both of the speaker, if u want super clear sound take the s880db but if u want earth shaker speaker take the r1700bt. The s880db is for video editor or music editor because the bass is those bass that u can hear not feel, even max the bass my table not even shake. The r1700bt is for gaming and movie because u can feel the bass
I listen to a lot of metal and rock. Can you suggest which one I should go for?
@@raghavnagpal9524 Take the r1700bt for mid and low, for s880db more toward high and mid

For me they sounds the same.
I am a casual music listener. But I knew one thing. china speaker never been good. china phone is good, earphone is good, but speaker is like karaoke
