  • There are lots of speakers you can plug into your computer or laptop, but almost all of them sound like they were off the budget or clearance shelf at Walmart. That's why the Edifier S800DB are such a breath of fresh air with their huge, breathtaking sound and vast array of inputs. You can use them with your TV through an optical connection, for example, and connect your phone via bluetooth too.
    Tech expert Dave Taylor of www.AskDaveTaylor.com/ plugs the Edifier speakers into his computer and finds they deliver great sound. But there are some quirks with the design...

    I like them a lot the S880db, but I have muscular dystrophy, I am unable to raise my arms or use the remote control, and the volume dial seems digital, it makes me wonder if I need to turn it on every time I want to use them. The speakers I currently use, I keep them on with the analog dial and control the volume with windows10 and turn them off directly with the UPS to cut off their power, so I don't need to touch the dial again to turn the speakers on again. I don't need them to be on while I sleep. Could I do the same with the Edifier s880db? they reset the volume when the power goes out :( sadly i need an analog switch.

    Very nice review! You seem just as amazed by these speakers as I am. :) I own 2 sets of these speakers they are great, bought both of them used. I use one set in the living room with a small subwoofer and one on my desk. The vocals in songs are so nice and clear on these speakers, a lot better than the Edifier s2000mkiii on which the vocals sound muffled and muddy regardless of the setting!! The tweeter of the s2000mkiii has slightly more detail but it's barely noticeable and the s880db makes up for that with clear natural vocals and clear 3d sound, even the vocals on the s3000pro sounds less natural and more mechanical/metallic to my ears (I sold both the s2000mkiii and s3000pro and kept the s880db call me crazy lol). Of course the s880db doesn't have that much bass because they are small speakers, that's why I added a small subwoofer the Edifier T5 to the set in my living room so the total sound is more room filling. They are a joy to listen to!

    Good review. A couple of things though, you can change the source by pressing the volume button at the back! Also, isn't it better to use the USB-in to connect your laptop? I would assume that the built in DAC is better than the ones in most laptops.

    • @AskDaveTaylor
      @AskDaveTaylor  5 років тому

      Good clarifications. And yes, if the device is supported (not all are) then an external DAC / Amp connected via USB is going to give you better results.

    How do these compare to the Edifier Luna Eclipse e25HD? I've got the Eclipse on my pc desk and they're "pretty good" (disappointed in the bass) but I now upgraded to a DAC/AMP and looking to upgrade my sound to high res. Would it be a worthwhile jump up in quality?

    • @AskDaveTaylor
      @AskDaveTaylor  3 роки тому

      Right, you can't really audition speakers through UA-cam videos, however amazing their microphones may be. Makes it tough to use as a key comparison tool, but there are so many variables at play, least of all original music source played on speakers, microphone used to record the output, editing of that recorded audio, compression by UA-cam, and then quality of your playback speakers too...

    • @AskDaveTaylor
      @AskDaveTaylor  Рік тому +1

      I suggest you touch base with the Edifier customer service team to ask what they recommend and whether an adapter might do the trick. Surprised you don't have an audio out or headphone jack on the TV, though!

    • @keetvhdlimited962
      @keetvhdlimited962 Рік тому

      @@AskDaveTaylor there is headphone jack.but Not that connections colored red yellow and white. I was told that using the headphone jack for speakers is not a good thing. Btw I think new tvs released after 2019 do not have these analog connections. They are surely doing away with these in favor of HDMI and Bluetooth and wifi enabled audio

    • @AskDaveTaylor
      @AskDaveTaylor  Рік тому

      There's no reason that using a headphone jack for speakers would be bad, I can't imagine who suggested that. The biggest issue would be that it might not get loud enough, but if you have powered speakers they're going to have their own volume control. Try it!

    You said we can't change input if we lost the remote. I think you can change the input (as I know for some speakers) by pressing the volume knob. It says "volume/input selection" if I'm not mistaken. Thanks for reviewing this speaker. Planning to buy them.

    • @MDK22420

      You can switch input yes, but changing modes i.e: dynamic, classic, vocal, monitor is dependent upon having the functioning remote.

    • @yongsua1989
      @yongsua1989 5 років тому

      s350db is more for movies & gaming. There's no such thing that it's better with music at least in my opinion. 8 inch subwoofer is overkill for music unless you're bass head. You definitely need smaller woofers for more tighter and accurate bass. Ground-shaking & deep rumbling bass is big no no for music.

    • @Iceburnification
      @Iceburnification 5 років тому

      Thanks for this comment. I was about to ask which is better between the two. I listen to different genres and I also love to dance... alone 😂 so I'll probably get the S350DB.

    • @keetvhdlimited962

    • @luca_rr4660

      They are not the same, the small speakers from the s350db only go to 160Hz (the woofer goes from 40Hz-160Hz), the s880db goes to 55Hz.
