I have loved watching the portayal of Youssef. The first time he's seen, he's busy serving and doesn't realize his clothes aren't perfect. He is loyal to Nicodemus and Shmuel, but he quickly warms to Jesus when he realizes Jesus helps the common people.
He listens; he knows how to read people; he cares about serving them. He discovered Mary was healed because he was out among the townspeople. He knew Jairus was trustworthy- way before the audience did! When Jesus healed Veronica, you could see the struggle he had balancing Jesus' words with the law he knows. But at Jairus' house, he was quick to obey Jesus. (The Youssef and Jairus friendship is also a favorite!)
I also love how he and Jesus communicate just by looking at each other. And that Eden knew he was the rabbi who could give her counsel. Now he's doing something he never wanted to do so he can help Jesus. Yep... love him!
Wonderful encapsulation of his character growth. Love him, too.
Also Nicodemus donated money to Jesus' mission when he decided not to follow him - probably because of his wife.
Interesting that now we KNOW WHO Joseph of Arimathea Is....
Well he's embracing the actual role of a minister and seeing first hand that the rest are only about power and wealth and dogmatically following law to the detriment of themselves and others.
The big question that Yusuf and Shmuel are not asking IS... "So how many other people has the Sanhedrin framed/ demonized and had killed for their benefit?"!!

Perhaps the only reason: they may not have had enough Biblical evidence for an answer... Plus these guys were newbies - they probably walked carefully so as not to 'ruffle any feathers'.
I've seen a lot of Christians give the chosen a lot of grief bc of the made up storylines and not wanting anyone to be portrayed as Jesus but, I've just got to say, I've learned so much informational tid bits and stuff about the Jewish culture through this and people's commentary about it. It's actually helped me draw a picture in my mind when I go to read the Bible. Either way. I would've been a believer of Jesus but this has made me make more sense of what I'm reading.
Yeah, people forget He was a human being. He didn't float around on air all holy and higher up. Theres nothing wrong with portraying Jesus having everyday conversation, laughing, joking etc. Just bc we are sinful, fallen people does not mean everything about our life here is vile and disgusting. My mom refuses to believe that Jesus drank actual wine. She says it was more like juice. Just bc its fermented does not make it sinful. If it were not fermented, then why does the bible say it brings joy? That doesn't make it ok to go get drunk, but still, how does grape juice bring joy? So i dont argue with her. She can think that i guess. Jesus was a man, a human man. He just did not sin. He could have at any moment, but He did not. He wanted to do the Father's will. In doing that, He's showing that we can refuse to sin, but only with the Holy Spirit.

I watched a clip of little james wanting to be healed. I haven't cried like that in a long time. I was born with heart disease. But that's not what I was looking for.
I am not worthy. But shortly after that. I spoke to my bishop and asked if I could go to the temple and take out my endowments.
Im going to the temple August 16th. This show has helped me. I've woken up everyday since excited to see the next episode.
I have a lot to work on, but, through the atonement. With the help from God. I can become cleaner and become a better man.
I dont watch this show for story somewhat. I expect it to not be accurate in some places.
I love the portrayal of Jesus! It's almost how I imagined him. Like a brother/friend. Not just worshipped and giving sermons.
I watch for the lessons to be learned. That I can into my daily life.
And also just something that helps me put my focus on God and remember him.
@@dagavinator6782 I too had not seen it until April when i binge watched it. I havent seen anything non scriptural about it. People have complained about the side stories, which we don't know what actually happened, but they did live life between the scriptures. I think not healing Little James or saving Thomas' love means sometimes, God moves in ways we don't understand, including not healing or keeping someone from death. I think Jesus needed to know Thomas was going to be loyal for the right reasons, and understand that their calling was much much higher than they could have imagined. As much as it hurt to lose her, imagine the souls Thomas help to save for eternity, and still spend eternity with her and Jesus.

I have noticed two of the individuals Jesus intervened with a miracle (water to wine) were the first to turn against him-the wedding father-Raffi? and Kafni, sadly so typical of so many in this world. Kafni would no longer have a way to support his family if not for Jesus and Raffi and his family would have been social outcasts. And yes I understand Kafni is in grief I have lost a child myself but hating someone or something else is like setting yourself on fire and expecting that person to burn. Jesus is the one to turn to not away from when something catastrophic happens.
I was so shocked to see Raffi be one of the townspeople who led Jesus to the cliff!!
Beautifully shared. Thank you. I've lost a child too, and it's is bearable only with Christ. So often, I've experienced folks I've helped had turned on me. It's incredibly sad. These folks who turned in the show must have hurt Christ's Heart so much. Yet, He still followed through with going to the cross in His Great Love for us so we could be saved if we believe in His Resurrection. My deepest sympathies, prayers, and Hugs for the loss of your child.

I never thought of that, but as this story points out, he is trying to get by in his merits and not his family's wealth. And the bible does say Joseph if Ameremathia was wealthy. Imagine the money grubbing that would be happening if they knew he had money.❤

It is! Watching in the app with the closed captions on makes me realize how MUCH I missed when I watched it the first time.
I thought I was the only one… i thought it was because English is not my native language.
I felt Yussif’s reluctance and disappointment that the leaders were being so petty.
I knew he was Joseph of Arimethea in season 2. Yusef is Arabic for the Hebrew name Joseph. I think that the writer's naming him Yusef was a strategy to hidel his true identity until season 4. In season 3 when he said he had rich relatives in Jerusalem it was confirmed that he was Joseph of Arimathea.
I am so amazed, as I watch these "the Chosen" episodes and the workings of the political powers at work in the Sanhedrin and the Roman guard, as to the many similarities and parallels of movings within the US government in these days.
The pharisees and sadducees were ironically quoting scripture about Jesus.

Loved this deep dive into the Pharisees and Yussif. I've suspected him to be Joseph of Arimathea from first season. He is one of my favorite characters in The Chosen.
I love the softness in Shmuel since he went with Jesus and prayed with Him. He seems more at peace. His initial restlessness regarding Jesus has shifted towards his peers.

I didn't notice this before - in the debate about resurrection and an after life, the sadducee said that talk in scripture about eternal life is about the Jews relationship with God's law and it is God's law that is eternal. Later with Mary and Martha Jesus says "My words shall not pass away".

Very well versed in the intricacies of Jewish thought and why their rejection has held firm for this long. Well done.
I'm not sure what or if this might have any significance, but I've gradually been realising how similar the Saducees views are to that of the Samaritans. Both only accepting the Pentateuch and apparently, the early Samaritans at least, didn't really believe in a resurrection either. Mainly just find it so ironic in a way that they agreed on so much, hated each other, because of their background.
Also thought I should point out Saducees were also from the tribe of Levi and so the Saducees were of the Priestly line. Thus why Caiaphas was the High Priest and a Saducee. So the Levites would likely have actually got their wage from the Tithe the people gave.
The Pharisees who were not Levites wouldn't have had that privileged position.

I was eager for Yussif and Shmuel to share their thoughts about Jesus, but I had to slow down and appreciate the writers who do such a fantastic job at building that slow burn, which is actually more realistic. When they do reveal what they each believe it's gonna be very exciting!

Thank you for the explanation of the various Jewish groups, not found among them in this scene are the Zealots. The Chosen has managed to gather them all together for the viewer. It makes a person want to dig into the Bible to find them. The political & doctrinal separations among the Jews is fascinating. & Yet they were for the most part dedicated to Judaism. & They all were looking for the Messiah to come.

This has nothing to do with this episode, but as I was praying today's rosary which is the sorrowful mysteries, I was thinking ahead to season 6, and I desperately hope they do not show Jesus (Jonathan) being scourged. I know it's an important part of the whole story and it will be included but I hope they just record the sound of it and only show the reactions of the crowd and onlookers. I imagine we will not be spared seeing Jesus bloodied, beaten, crowned with thorns, carrying his cross and then crucified but I just can't bear the thought of having to watch Jesus be torturously beaten as in The Passion of the Christ.

I’m wondering if I misheard you because I have always thought that he was the High Priest and a Pharisee 😳 Other than that, I really loved this episode ❤ I really like the focus that The Chosen puts on the Sanhedrin, because not that many of these show, books, etc. have tackled the politics that were taking place in Rome and Jerusalem at the time-and they are crucial to the accurate re-telling of this story. On a lighter note, poor Shmuel ☹ Here he is trying to introduce Yussif to some of the various temple elders and they totally embarrass him with their rudeness 😱🤯🙃

Sadducees were in control of the Sanhedrin because they were actual Levites. Caiaphas was a Sadducee.

During the Sanhedrin discussion of resurrection, the Pharisee was trying to quote Psalms 22:1-31 "My God, my God, why has thou forsaken me?.... This is what Jesus quotes on the cross & imo this should have been brought out as foreshadowing in this video. I hope you'll go back & watch it & reference this Psalm as very important part if the Sanhedrin discussion also.
I heard it and thought about talking my about it, but it wasn’t pertinent to what I was trying to teach here. The video was already MEGA long, so I had to pick and choose what to talk about.

As Judas is said on the show to be Judas Ish Cariot (Judas from Cariot), it may be they put Yussif as Yussif of Arimathea... Both names Yussif and Joseph sound very similar if you get it in the correct accent. "iuh-ssif" and "djiuh-ssef"

I am shocked to learn that Yussif’s sponsor was Annas ben Seth. That man is no ordinary rabbi or Sadducee - he was a former *high priest*, and *the father-in-law of Caiaphas* at that.
In one interpretation of the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, Annas’ five sons are the rich man’s five brothers (the rich man is of course Annas’ son-in-law Caiaphas himself).
Some people are unable to grow beards but maybe it is because of disease. My cousin in Israel who is extremely orthodox, was last year without some facial hair and head covering which he usually has, as he was recovering from treatments for skin cancers on face and head. Could be other reasons for no beard.
I am curious as to whether there was more than one "Sanhedrin" -type political grouping in those days.

It's ironic how Shmuel criticized the Herodians while we've seen him use the Romans to advance in Judaism and stop Jesus.
As far as the "several months ago"...anyone can say that meaning a couple of years ago. I have said "last week" but didn't necessarily mean "EXACTLY last week". It could mean "longer than this week".
QUESTION: I have seen how Yusef is in NT... Do we have a reference to Schmiel ( forgive me for any misspellings - Thank you. )

No he clarified in an earlier section that he’s not in the Sanhedrin as a member. He just hangs around lol.
I can see times do not change. There have always been the elite, wealthy, liberal minded people who misinterpret God's Word because they allegorize it and don't believe half of it, and then there are those who take the whole thing as truth and mostly literal, who are the "common people" as they say, mostly conservative traditionalists. In the Bible, there was never a Sadducee saved (believed in Jesus as the Messiah) that is mentioned, but there were a few Pharisees saved. Yusef of Arimathea and Nicodemus were two of them. I had the epiphany of Yusef during this episode and realized he was the Joseph that the Bible mentions.
He is the GREAT UNCLE OF JESUS Mary's Uncle He had the legal right to claim the body of JESUS { KINSMAN REDEEMER }

Jesus had such a issue with the religious leadership and leaders of the time taking themselves so seriously and putting themselves and rules above the people. Hello my brother. Blessings to you on thy journey. Do you remember the scene on the steps of the Helenus temple when Jesus was taking to Simon when he renamed him Peter? Do you remember Jesus asking Peter if he was willing to follow Him even unto Hell? Now consider this aspect of purview. Each Individual Being holds within their own mind their "vision" of what Hell shall be for them. For Yusuf his idea of Hell is the halls of the Sanhedrin. For Judas being without money. For Thomas living without Ramah. For everyone it is something different.
Many judge me as evil, a devil worshipper, because I was born as I AM with the abilities given me by God in psychic abilities. I didn't ask for them or learn them from another. I AM that I AM. Even you have said as much to me directly during a live feed. I follow God's directions and in Jesus's footsteps using His examples as my guidance. I follow Him even unto the pits of Hell or my idea of it, which is Colorado near Denver. Though the landscapes are beautiful, those Souls burrowed within it are lacking LOVE and LIGHT. So focused on the external they do not see how rotten they are becoming within, just as Jesus pointed out to the priests just before Quintus killed Ramah.
Interesting metaphorical language of the Bible… still disagreements about this today among Christians…the Old Testament as well as the New Testament.

It’s just interesting. My Christian perception is a little bit different. I think both this life and the afterlife is import. To me it’s kinda like this life is College and doing well in college matters depending upon what your goals or Careers are in the future. For me I study and learn hard for a science degree which is necessary for me to progress in my field of choice. Christ is kinda like a counselor who helps guide me and helps make it possible for me to graduate despite the slip ups along the way. Retaking the lessons that I need to pass as much as possible until graduation day. That’s the kind of lense that I kinda view this life and the next. Haven’t been to Grad school yet but I’d imagine heaven is sorta like grad school and I probably won’t get there until I pass this life.
Though I use my personal degree as a metaphor, kinda like I do see in other students over time, God is interesting that He sometimes helps you reconsider changing majors or whatever you were considering planning for your life into something more or greater than you initially imagined.
One more difference between saduccees and pharisees is that pharisees was not an elite group, the pharisees was for the common people, they taught against hypocrosy and wanted to make sure the law was accesible for everyone, and most where average laymen, they where a pretty progressive group for its time, and didnt want people executed, if you want to know more i reccommend the podcast the two cities episode 108😁

Hey! The war is in Gaza, completely isolated to the south west. Where we go it has no effect on our trip. I was just there with my wife two months ago and we had an AMAZING trip!

Well we’re pretty sure He wasn’t a trained rabbi, but it’s possible yeah. Many think he may have trained at some point under Gamaliel because a lot of His teachings line up with the school of Hillel.
