EXPERIENCING REAL DOUBTS IN MY FAITH / a personal testimony from the past two years

  • Two years ago i experienced some real deep doubts about Christianity being true and the God of the Bible being real.
It was such a painful time, but also taught me many lessons I otherwise might not have learned.
My faith is stronger now, but it has taken hours, hours, and more hours of listening to solid teaching, so much apologetics, debates, reading the Bible and prayer.
I am so thankful for the answers I found.
Here is a short list of some of the people I listened to the most during those rough moments in my life.
    Frank Turek:
Frank turek is my very favorite apologist. He tackles huge questions about the Bible, God, and the world, giving great, satisfying answers while still making the concepts and ideas understandable to the average person.
Definitely recommend him if you have questions about how the earth was created, hell, how to talk about God, why the Bible and not other religions, etc...
    Mike Winger:
Mike winger is awesome when you want to take deep dives into theology. He isn’t afraid to study hard topics for hundreds of hours.
He also is great when it comes to hearing solid reasons why other religions aren’t true.
While I don’t agree with his every view, I think he’s still super helpful and totally recommend him.

Sara, I don't know how a 67 year old woman and a young Mom can have so much in common. For the most part your story was mine right down to the sudden death of my Dad from a massive heart attack when I was in my twenties. I just praise God for showing us both that He is real and so worthy of our total submission and love which I too am trying to grasp the full meaning of. Thanks for your openness to share.

Oh wow, that is so neat that we have so much in common. 💕 I am very sorry to hear about your father though.

This is encouraging to me. The period of doubt resonates deeply. It’s a place I hate to admit I currently find myself in. I feel shameful for it and it feels overwhelming. It makes me question my own salvation and wonder why I am struggling to find that “childlike faith.” I have been studying, reading and have definitely prayed those desperate prayers. I’m hopeful to come out on the other end the way you’ve described but cannot in good conscience say I’m there yet.

I relate so deeply to all of these questions and the begging. I love how you searched for the truth and continue to ask the hard questions. I'm currently watching a reading of The Screwtape Letters by c.s. lewis and it's been extremely eye opening for me. Thank you for sharing! I'm tuned in to hear you share more on this topic!

I didn't expect to see such vulnerability on this channel, THANK YOU. You have no idea how much this stranger on the internet needed to hear this from someone like me. THANK YOU.

Oh my goodness. Thank you for this comment! Yours was the first I read after I posted this video and it was really encouraging. I felt I needed to share it, but I did feel a bit nervous on how it might be received. ❤️

Thank you for sharing🧡 I can relate so much. 2 years ago, October 2020 my dad committed suicide. That was the start of a hard season for my husband and I. I was pregnant with our daughter and we already had a little son. A month later we lost our apartment and we had to live with family. I doubted God a lot. I didn't see an outcome and I didn't understand why this was all happening. I started to doubt my faith. I had some really hard questions as well. Now, 2 years later, God has healed my heart and I have grown closer to Him. I am still learning to fully trust Him with my whole heart and soul. I am still learning about who He truly is. I have been a christian for 7 years now and sometimes it feels like I need to learn some things all over again. But that is okay😊 I know Jesus is the Truth and the only Truth. He has revealed that to me so many times when I was doubting Him

Wow! I am so so sorry about your dad! I could not imagine how hard that situation must have been for you!
I am so grateful that God has brought you comfort and healing. ❤️❤️
Oh boy, can I relate about having to start back over and work things out that you thought you always just “knew” before. It is so much work, but I too feel it has taught and grown me so much! 💕💕

Thanks for your openness. Many of us have had similar times in our lives. It's good to question things actually because it makes us more sure in our faith after once we get our answers.

I was also homeschooled my whole life and grew up in a super conservative home. We weren’t allowed to wear pants, women couldn’t cut their hair, jewelry wasn’t allowed, etc.
I relate so so much to your story. When I was around 12-13, I started questioning everything that had to do with the church and the Bible. I’ve spent a very long time researching history and listening to theological debates also. I’ve come out at a different point than you have, but I still love to research, and I’m constantly learning new things :)

Im going through something. Only that these questions have come up out of nowhere. But im experiencing that peace of God and simultaneously battling heavy doubt. Thank you for this testimony.
We will defeat the evil one by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony.

If I may share… as an older mom, and someone who was in the ministry and mission field for years, I can say that I never had such solid answers as when we, as a family, sat down and read through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation- straight through; not hopping around- reading it as one story. We did this last year and we started over this month and we are doing it again. We read through, asking God to show us His truth, and help us to see it through His lens. It has been life-changing.

So true. I have been a Christian for over 30 years and had never read the Bible from cover to cover. For several months now I have been reading as a whole story, and yes, what a difference it makes. It has brought further understanding to me that hoping around the scriptures did not.

@@shirleysmith4614 when we got to the New Testament, it brought such clarity and understanding and context, after having read the whole OT and moving right on to the NT.

@@Shannon.Hazleton It has been tempting for me not to jump to the N.T, but to keep the coarse. I'm in 1 Chronicles right now and all the names are killing me. LOL

That is such a good piece of advice!:) I have read the Bible straight through before, but it’s been a while. 💕💕 thank you for this wisdom! I am continually shocked by how many times the Bible answers its own questions as I continue to read. :)

This is going to be an interesting video...because these doubts sound like all of the reasons I've never been a Christian I appreciate and have learned about many religions and like you say, they ALL believe their version is the "real" one etc.. I personally believe it's because they are all from one source with different interpretations.curiis to see what you'll say as I type this

You should check out the evidence bible by Ray Comfort. Many of his notes come from well known theologians and devout Christians. An excellent resource if you are looking for a new Bible for personal use or for study. ... It is not a study bible so much as a Bible with apologist, historical, scientific, evangelism articles sprinkled throughout.
Thanks for sharing this video! 💕

Sarah Dale, I'm curious what answers you found with catholicism? Is the Christian term "Just have faith" turned into a Catholic "Just do good works" one of the answers?
Thanks, look forward to your reply!

Beautiful! It;s amazing how pain can draw us closer to our Lord. I lost my late husband 8 years ago to a sudden heart attack. It rocked my world! How could a good god do this to me!? I was mad! But God is sooo kind, and slowly walked with me through all the pain and questions. I also want to tell you I had a personal experience with Jesus as I lay on the kitchen floor convulsing with sobs. I saw Him kneel down beside me and touch my head. I know some will not believe me, but I know what I experienced. Today I am stronger in the Lord with a greater understanding of who He is, and His love for me. He is soooo good. Thank you for sharing your heart.

Such a great video. I'm sorry to hear about your dad. Even though we may know where someone is, when we're suddenly without them, that's painful no matter how you look at it. Grieving that is still ok. ❤ I think it's so important to, like you said, not only have good, logical answers for others but also ourselves. Blasé answers to genuine questions don't take the asker seriously in my opinion, and hurts our testimony to the Truth of the Gospel.
I thought I'd share this video below, as I got a lot out of it amidst my own study of why we can believe the Bible is true as a decade-plus-old believer. Love Voddie Baucham. Love Mike Winger too! I'll have to check out the other Bible teacher you listed. 😊 Love your channel!
