As an Italian I think at least four of these stereotypes are actually true.
Also there is another theory that explains why we talk with our hands so much and that's because Italy has always been divided in different states that had different languages, so to understand each other we had to talk with our hands. Even today regional dialects are so different from one city to another that it's difficult to understand someone who speaks a different dialect than you.

J'aimerais bien savoir pourquoi nos chaines TV "gratuites" (TF1, M6, France Tv, etc) refusent de produire un programme sous-titrés ? On est le seul pays Européens a ne pas avoir de TV show sous titrés, c'est ridicule

Il ne faut pas trop fatiguer le cerveau de la masse populaire : il faut qu'il reste disponible pour la publicité. A probablement corréler avec notre niveau lamentable en langues étrangères. Il n'y aurait que Arte, qui est évidemment plus branchée Europe, pour financer ce genre de projet. En même temps, je ne regarde plus la télé, et mon entourage non plus.

Ça vient d'un souhait de protéger le français je pense. C'est bien sûr une méthode très discutable qui a le don de nous rendre mauvais en langue par exemple.
Heuuu non... t'es déjà allé en Espagne ?? D'ailleurs ils font même comme les canadiens, ils traduisent tous les titres de films ! Sinon en France tu peux voir pratiquement toutes les séries en anglais (good doctor, csi/les experts, ncis, supernatural, game of thrones...) tu n'as jamais regardé tes paramètres audio ? Tu le fais une fois et tu n'as plus à changer.

L'impatience dans le sens où ils se fâchent tout le temps? Pq si c'est comme ça je sais pas si tu es français, mais les français râlent beaucoup plus, les italiens le font moins souvent, juste un peu plus fort. Après il la ferment et te laissent tranquille. Je dis ça en tant que française.

It's pretty amazing that a French channel lets you make programmes in English. It wouldn't happen the other way around. I really prefer subtitles to voiceovers, far less distracting and easier for language learners.
I know it is quite unlikely but will it ever be on Netflix?

It will never be on Netflix, but in retrospect, they should have done it on there. Netflix is renowned for giving creators a huge amount of creative freedom, they would have loved to host this show!
And it would have been available for non-France residents ...
It's realy annoying you can't publish the entire serie but it's already cool to watch 1 episode from each country. Thanks a lot and continue like this because this channel is fucking amazing!

Je trouve ça super que tu aies fais une chaîne où tu parles anglais sous titrés français avec en plus, des documentaires sur les différents stéréotypes des pays. J'ai une niveau déplorable en Anglais depuis la 6e et grâce à toi, je comprends de plus en plus les dialogue, je retiens peut-être pas énormément de vocabulaire mais mon oreille se fait de mieux en mieux à l'accent ! Continue comme ça ! 💙

@@aantony2001 That gesture means that your girlfriend is "putting horns" to you that means she is cheating on you (sorry for my bad english, i tried my best)
That's what it means in Greek too, I was wondering whether it has the same connotation in Italy. Though in Greece we use the phrase more than the gesture ("horned" is a common swear word). Your English is OK (you could maybe say "on you" instead of "to you"), I'm sorry for my previous use of French though.

I'm not Italian, but I've always talked with my hands and mimed a lot in conversation, even on the phone. I don't know why. I'm Chinese and I live in France. Nobody else in my family does that hand talking thing. And I looooove pasta. I think I must have been an Italian in my previous life.

J'ai adoré le fait que tu ailles sur le terrain directement, avec les autochtones (je suis contente de pouvoir caser ce mot), et en même temps discuter avec des "professionnels" qui expliquent ça plus sérieusement ! (Même si le psychologue n'a pas servi à grand chose pour le coup :'D pauvre de lui) On apprend deux-trois petits trucs en même temps. Ça fait plaisir de retrouver notre cher Paul Taylor en tout cas !

Also - Italian hand gestures. At work, we took on an Italian/English bilingual (from birth) lovely lady called Ellie(/Eleonora), who grew up in Florence with an English mum, and who is completely bilingual. She told us the story of when she went to see some young British nephews/nieces and when they were eating some sweeties, she confused the hell out of them by putting her index finger at 90 degrees to her cheek and twisting it round, back and forth. Apparently that means "yummy" in Italian. Who knew? She didn't realise it wasn't a British thing.

We use that gesture for say that thing is very yummy "è molto buono"
We get used to that from young age, Also childrens in snacks tv spots do that so you'll learn it by that too

C'est d'un canal français. Pourquoi avoir des sous-titres en anglais?

Because Paul Taylor might want to reach a global audience
But those would need to be added to the video as they are not on French TV, and subtitles in two languages would be too much. People can still use the UA-cam subtitle system to put in English subtitles.

Hand gestures are mostly used in the South of Italy...because of the Greek colonisation as the video is saying.
Northern Italians rarely used them.

In Tunisia, we use that hand gesture a lot. Most times it means "wait". Sometimes it means "don't be hasty". Other times it means "take it easy".

Hmm, je ne m'attendais pas à ce bait and switch, surtout qu'il n'est annoncé qu'à la fin, une fois que t'es bien investi. Je comprends le raisonnement et je suis content pour toi Paul, mais ça aurait été sympa d'être clair là-dessus avant. Dans ta vidéo précédente tu dis "we just thought it would be easier to just call it Paul Taylor and everything, all the work I do with Canal+ will be on here, right, it's so much easier.". Bon après tu dis que la vidéo prochaine (celle-ci) expliquerait où et quand on peut voir les épisode, j'avais assumé que c'était sur UA-cam du coup. Ça aurait été bien plus simple de dire "Je sors une nouvelle série exclusivement sur Canal+ et la semaine prochaine j'upload le début du premier épisode ici mais le reste ne sera que disponible sur Canal+".
Bonne vidéo quand même, très intéressant et bonne méthodologie, je ne peux malheureusement pas payer un énième abonnement.
Surtout que Canal c'est vraiment de la merde
Je sais pas si cela a été édité mais il fait marqué Extrait dans le titre de la vidéo.
@Levin: Le titre original était "Stereotrip - Episode 1: Italy". Suite à la sortie du nouvel épisode les titres se sont standardisés et ont été changés ainsi que la description. 'fin je suppose que c'est suite à l'épisode, puisque le 27/10 c'était encore le titre original. Même si c'est tard, c'est bien plus clair!

I am Italian and I would like to prescise that signs are different following the region. I am from genova so I have never seen some of this sign and others that look essential to me are not present in the video

Sincèrement, même si j'ai envie de voir la suite, grâce à ton explication finale je ne suis plus frustrée, et la compréhension s'installe ;) Contrairement aux Golden Moustache ou Studio Bagel par exemple, qui n'ont pas du tout expliqué leurs lancements de séries sur UA-cam Premium par exemple, tout en mettant juste le premier pour appâter les gens. Ici, on a une explication franche, claire, et 10 minutes c'est déjà pas mal. Il est clair que je n'ai aucune raison de m'abonner à Canal +, on parle d'une seule chaine qui ne passe pas grand chose de dingue qui vaille le coup, à l'heure des Netflix, streaming and co, inintéressant. Mais c'est un bon choix niveau artistique et liberté.

Effectivement il y a ce petit côté frustrant de ne pas avoir la vidéo en entier, surtout quand on voit la qualité.
Je trouve que le niveau de la production a encore fait un bon en avant par rapport à WTF France et What’s up France.
J’apprécie également l’évolution du registre : on quitte la comédie pure pour aller vers un propos qui nous informe et nous fait découvrir des cultures, tout en gardant se ton décontracté et drôle.
