    Just got my Quantam 26X26 Thunderbolt 3 & it is a top shelf economic little unit. Really high headroom & super clarity plus lightening fast latency from Thunderbolt 3. I use the latest IMAC with BIGSUR 11.6 (2021) so none of those 'ten year old Windows' PC problems everybody seems to be complaining about (LOL) Universal Control is pretty easy to navigate but does not enable volume control in the software, Its all in your DAW. the PRESONUS inputs on front are better for small home studios where changing out mic/instrument cables frequently is a hassle with inputs on back. Unit is nice & compact= about 2 inches height, 18 inches width & 6 inches deep. the only sketchy area is the power supply connection. a 1/8 female pin connector that comes out easily if you happen to move the unit. But I'm impressed coming from a Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56 (discontinued) which I guess was originally easily over $1000. Focusrite's mix control was a nightmare with permanent routing glitches they never fixed in the software. I also use the Quantam's main/channel/ headphone volumes @ about 50% .....compared to old FS56 which was close to max to get enough headroom from my mixes. the Free plug-ins & music production suite is a big plus. Sweetwater support is great as always, but they could have sent me more candy ....one bag? LOL

    I've had one for a few months now, and use it with both my Macbook Pro running Logic Pro X and my PC laptop with FL Studio and Reaper (both have TB3 ports). So far, it's been great. I needed extra ins/outs to run tracks out through my analog gear and back into my DAW, and this has been great for that. The send/returns on channels 1 and 2 also come in handy for using some of my external hardware when tracking. The near-zero latency is just as advertised and worth much of the price on its own IMO. I read some of the comments and I think it's not realistic to have some of these asks from a $600 interface. At this price, there are going to be some limitations, but it hasn't been that big of a deal for me. I haven't used the MIDI or optical ins/outs, but knowing they are there if I need them is nice. Having the inputs on the front aren't the most visually appealing, but if you don't have or want to use a patchbay and need to swap mic/instruments in, having them right in front is convenient. Bottom line is, for the number of ins/out, near-zero latency, and nice clean sounding preamps, I don't think this can be beat.

    • @crhkrebs
      @crhkrebs 3 роки тому +1

      Yes, but once you turn off your DAW and want to watch a UA-cam video, you get no sound through the Quantum. This is just like I have it now with my old Audiobox 1818. Please tell me Presonus at least made the headphone jacks work properly.

    • @tonygunz21
      @tonygunz21 3 роки тому +3

      @@crhkrebs That's actually not the case. Although the Quantum does not have direct monitoring, meaning you cannot monitor the mics/instruments that are plugged into your Quantum without a DAW running, it most definitely allows you to listen to UA-cam videos, or any other audio from your computer without a DAW running. I agree that not having direct monitoring can be considered a drawback, but it doesn't really bother me because I only need to monitor my inputs when I'm working on music, which is when my DAW is open. It has two headphone jacks, which work fine, and provide enough power for my DT770s and my Audeze LCDs. I don't have any experience with any other Presonus interface, so I can't compare to how it stacks up against any others.

      @@tonygunz21 the reason I’m concerned is that my current Presonus model Audiobox 1818 also cannot play internet audio when I’m not doing music. Also the headphone jack does not work ever. I have to use 2 outputs on the back of the 1818 and send them to my smaller Presonus and use it’s headphone jack. This is a well known issue at Presonus Support and this is their “fix”. By the way, the outputs are also summed into mono. Totally frustrating. Like you, I don’t care if the headphone jack doesn’t work when I’m not on the DAW. But I’d like it to work when I’m working on music. Oh and thank you for your reply, I appreciate it.

    • @tonygunz21
      @tonygunz21 3 роки тому +1

      @@crhkrebs Sure thing, not a problem. I just checked out the video you linked above. I haven't had that issue, or any others for that matter. It's been plug and play on both my Macbook and my PC running Windows 10. I believe the only thing I had to do was download their Universal Control software, and that was it. That sucks about the 1818, but I haven't had any issues at all with the Quantum 2626. If you were on the fence about getting one, I'd say just go through a retailer like Sweetwater, who has a good return policy and put it through its paces. I've never had to return anything to them, but I've heard they are great about these types of things. I use the Quantum as my main interface at home and also have the Motu M2 for mobile, and both have worked flawlessly. Again, the direct monitoring is something the Quantum should have included, especially since it can be found on much smaller and cheaper interfaces, including my Motu. But for my needs, I never need direct monitoring. If you get one, I hope it works out for you, because for me, I was going to go the Apollo route, but decided to try this and return it if I didn't like it. It's still working perfect. Good luck.

    Unfortunately Quantum 2626 driver/firmware has a lot of bugs and there are many issues with Windows 10 that Presonus support is ignoring. Plenty of Windows users have problems with loosing sound, sudden disconnects and many problems with stable connection via TB3. So if you plan to buy this gear for Windows 10 I suggest to think twice... and buy something with different interface or not from Presonus.

    I have a firestudio 26/26 from 2008, awesome unit - great expandability - 2 ADAT/SMUX IO, SPDIF IO, daisy chain up to 4 units, inserts on channels 1 and 2... 🤔 looks and functions exactly the same as this unit, just different color, different interface (FireWire 400), and poorer converter signal path than the new one. I’m so glad to see that they’ve awoken to how great the old 26/26 was - quite surprised he focused on the pod and not the original firestudio 26/26 that this is clearly the direct offspring of! Any case, so happy to see it arrive at last!

    I don’t like front inputs! They look too ugly in a tidy pro studio, especially with cables inserted and turned behind the studio desk. Most studios are equipped with rackcounts utilizing back connections to patchbay. I feel that couple of front ins are enough. Just a personal opinion maybe I’m wrong 😅

You can record Microphones on all 8 channels, instruments like guitar and bass (TS cable) through the first two channels, or Mic (XLR), and then channels 3-8 have line level (TRS) or mic capabilities (XLR).

    The firepod has a Main and Mixer control. The mixer control allows you to mix the input to the playback so the artist recording can hear more or less of his performance. This does not have this. That Mixer ability is very important to have. How do you do this with just the main?? Please don't tell me to change it in the DAW through a sub or something because you don't want to touch those setting during recording. I don't want to change setting in the DAW for recording and then change them for playback of recording.

    • @monkeyxx

      they have separate dacs but no way to route them. biggest setback of Quantum IMO. You need a cue mixer, I use a Midas DM16 but you could use any mixer. no direct monitoring is central to how they achieve such a good latency performance on the other hand. You know, I could be wrong, maybe the phones are splits off of the monitor dac.

I do have a Focusrite that is similar to this and I use ADAT to connect it to my Apollo. It gave me 8 extra preamps or line ins at 96khz, any higher than that and you can only use 4 of the inputs.

      @@richardaaron4454 I don't personally have any experience with PreSonus interfaces, though I love StudioOne and use that as my main DAW. I see the future of interface chaining moving from ADAT to Thunderbolt just because of the much larger bandwidth combined with very low latency... that or some sort of high speed network. I'm guessing we'll see ADAT slowly disappear from interfaces and be replaced by USB-C (thunderbolt) or RJ-45 jacks over the next decade. Networks seem to be much more flexible in their implementation. Thunderbolt seems to have an overall bandwidth and latency advantage.

    All of these Quantum interfaces seem to be a step down from the Studio 192. Lack of stand-alone DSP mixing and operability is a big miss. Low latency via hardware is often a more flexible solution in a studio. Why not both options in a modern thunderbolt interface?

    • @TheFlyMan3829
      @TheFlyMan3829 2 роки тому +2

      Heres my general idea of the reasoning:
      DSP is extremely expensive to implement as well as not exactly necessary anymore to a certain extent. Depends on what youre doing. For most, unless youre for some reason running 25+ channels of UA plugins ect at 192khz (why?), you’re never going to really benefit from DSP. At least for the money youre paying anyway. Main reason for this is the CPU landscape has changed dramatically the past 5 years with doubling core counts and performance node improvements ect ect.
      I own a 12900ks and will just tell you for a fact that my Apollo is currently doing not a whole lot of processing lol. I have LESS latency running plugins natively on my pc than i do off of dedicated hardware now. Kind of insane.
      The real value of DSP in its current form lies when you either have an older machine or a laptop, however not for long. Laptops are seeing a similar explosion in performance per watt and its only a matter of time before whats possible on desktop becomes possible on mobile. Like we are talking within a year or two.
      DSP tech needs an update IMO to make the extra cost associated more compelling. Otherwise low latency thunderbolt interfaces without it might be all you TRULY need.

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  3 роки тому +2

      Hey, Marshall! Both are solid interfaces if you're just using it for ADAT expansion with your X4. The AudioFuse has a phantom power switch on each channel individually instead of two groupings (1-4, 5-8). It also has metering on each channel on the hardware itself, as well as sync and sample rate control. You can still set everything up and meter the Quantum using the software, though, and the Quantum does spec out slightly better with dynamic range. There are other differences as you dive in to them both, so feel free to contact me if you have any other questions!
