Sharpen a Bavarian Edge with a Bavarian Edge
That would make the world explode
That's gay
It would take a screenshot
I'm really pleased with this! It works like a charm ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ Takes less time than my old electric sharpener because it can take more off the knife faster, and then it smooths out nicely with the finer grit polisher. I don't know how long it will last before the grit wears away, but I wouldn't mind having to replace it every once in a while.

Which one is it mate?! Lol
The Bavarian edge is for honing. Makes the knifes edge straight, doesn't sharpen it btw. Falsely advertised on basically any website you buy it from.
Everything makes sense now, lol. We had this thing purely for sharpening purposes in a commercial kitchen and I used the bottom of a porcelain coffee mug instead to get a working edge.
Yeah nothing beats a whetstone for sharpening. At least for straight edges.
i have one of these and it depends how you angle the blade when your sharpening, handle down is to take metal off and reshape the edge handle up is to sharpen, handle straight is a halfway point, this sharpener is everything you need to get a knife shaving sharp.
that explains why my parents got pissed at me when i was younger for trying to see if a knife could saw through a piece of wood LOL
As a chef, your knife handling skills were giving me anxiety as were the tomato cutting segments.
I love your videos but the Barvarian is more or less for honing. Try some whetstones. Keep on keeping on brother and hope you blow up in the youtube scene
Mitchell McInnis for most people like Tyler, they have great knife handling from growing up hunting. Naturally it is easy for them to handle knives.
Well the purpose of the video is to test the product. It says it is made for sharpening, not 'honing' or whatever you said. Even though it may be better at what you said, he is testing if the product can succesfully accomplish what it claims it can do
I can't watch most people use a knife because they don't the first thing about how to use a knife, and this includes hunters.
Saws are for sawing, knives are for cutting!
That's not how they advertise it, though.

A credit card, a tomato, and a Bavarian edge walk into a bar...
Turns out it was for an trade, and the credit card cut the tomato a deal, it refused, but thankfully the bavarian edge had a sharp tongue and gave the tomato the sharp end of the deal, thus convincing him. All in all, lesson learned, the credit card isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

Now you can repair leaks in pools and spas in water without draining them! Flex Tape is perfect for marine, campers and RVs! Flex Tape is super strong, and once it's on, it holds on tight! And for emergency auto repair, Flex Tape keeps its grip, even in the toughest conditions! Big storms can cause big damage, but Flex Tape comes super wide, so you can easily patch large holes. To show the power of Flex Tape, I sawed this boat in half! And repaired it with only Flex Tape! Not only does Flex Tape’s powerful adhesive hold the boat together, but it creates a super strong water tight seal, so the inside is completly dry! Yee-doggy! Just cut, peel, stick and seal! Best way to tell how sharp a knife is on the fly is by dragging it across your fingernail. Hold your finger out, place the knife at the cuticle at a shallow angle. then drag the same part of the knife to the tip of your nail. If it catches on your nail instead of smoothly sliding it has a nice edge on it. I'm sure serrated knives will have a different outcome.
you know this boy be whippin in the kitchen wit that knife set
I love how he comes out of nowhere in the beginning
Next time use paper to show how sharp the knifes are, it is more clear that way. Also you could try shaving with them as well to show sharpness. Good video though
Yoooooo you make great videos these actually keep me interested without skipping ahead. Keep up the good work my man👍👍👍
when we were using the school kitchen, you had to saw through everything with their knives. So I brought a whetstone to sharpen the ones at my table and got scolded. Apparently they were intentionally dull to the point that it was near impossible to cut anything without squishing it with the blunt knife

The Bavarian Edge: A Serial Killer’s Dream
🤫
How does this channel only have 80k subscribers??? This dude deserves more
Your wish was granted, doubled already
You have to angle it differently to first set the edge straight angle it down while sharpening, then to actually sharpen the knife angle it up while sharpening. Then after that you can hold the stones on the bavarian edge apart with your fingers and gently pass the knife through the open stone straight to hone the blade.
A sharp knife will slice a tomato paper thin in one pass of the blade. You should never have to saw the fruit or vegetable.
yeah this sharpener is one of the only things that actually work as seen on tv, it gets my $300 chefs knife sharp perfectly when most others cant even shape the metal due to how hard it is, it literally sharpens everything you need it to if you actually know how to use it
Love this channel need more Tyler tubes on UA-cam btw your podcast is amazing too
Disclaimer: For all the vegans no tomatoes were harmed in the making of this video.
The Barvarian Edge is just a knive honer meaning its supposed to make the knife more straight. meaning if the knife was off centered it would make it centered
HONING A KNIFE DOES NOT MEAN TO SHARPEN
So thats why his results varied if you were wondering
Hone literally means sharpen
Johnny Bravo Sharpen means to grind away metal to make it sharper. Honing and sharping are different things

I’ve been waiting for a vid thanks
Your the best channel on youtube!!!your channel is growing fast.
Notice that the straight edge has a sticker that says hand wash only dry immediately. Which means the knife is made of a high carbon steel that can rust vs the others which were most likely basic 440 stainless steel. What this means is that the straight edge is a waaaay stronger steel and that's why it performs much better then the others and holds its edge much better. If you ever do a similar test, I recommend making sure all the knives are made of the same steel.
Most people don’t read instructions. The instructions are on the bottom of the tool. You need to angle the back of the knife up or down, depending if you want rough sharpening or fine sharpening. The straight in motion is only for polishing.
He keeps calling it the "barbarian edge"

You should try the wavy knife at the serrated knife angle
Rachel Ciccone
Squiggly not wavy
This is a honeing device not a sharpener. Its made to keep maintenence on your knife so you dont have to sharpen it. These are generally used with knives that yave microscopic serations. The teeth on them will misalign and you run it through this to realign them.
This isnt a honing device. That would be a leather strop or a chef steel. This "sharpener" has carbide blade that shave of bits of the edge to bring it to a sharper edge. So it would wear down your knives pretty quick but to normal use you wouldn't notice it.
It looks like the bit inside moves which would potentially sharpen it. But it does look like a honer.
Smart ass
Either way please don't use this in any half way decent knife they're god awful for your knives
A carbide scraper doesn't count as a honing device in the knife world. Honing at it's coarsest will be a fine ceramic, if not just plain leather or leather with polishing compound.

Were those tomatoes frozen or were they just the stiffest tomatoes that I ever seen?
They were actually apples in diguise
Straight edge knifes should never be used to saw (: they should be able to cut straight through things like a razor. I love your videos tho!
if you dont drag an edge it would not cut
@LazicStefan sliding the knife is essential for cutting correctly you just cant push down and expect a knife to cut perfectly in anything harder than noodle dough
@LazicStefan how much would a razor edge last in a well used knife
@LazicStefan ua-cam.com/video/6c4RD5E4vcs/v-deo.html
@LazicStefan he is still applying lateral motion

I've been waiting for 9 hourd
I always wondered if that thing worked! Great video!
The issue is wood and cardboard don't wear it out, it fills in the microscopic edges with fibers and is easily washed away, but it'll be slightly dulled from the heat of friction, basically polishing the edge smooth.
What the frick I got the ad for this in the beginning of the video
Little fun fact: I'm born and raised in Bavaria, Germany. I don't get the ad. On the other hand I know that we're not particularly famous for our knifes. Go to Solingen for that and visit us for beer and food lol
As it turns out, knives do a pretty good job cutting through tomatoes. The more you know...
There’s a difference between that’s “dull” (not to sharpness expectations) and that’s “dull” (rounded. You can comfortably put that to your hand and pull)
Lol nevermind you covered them all
RE: the credit card. If you watch the bit in the commercial very carefully and in slow motion you can see that the tomato he cuts with the credit card has a slit already in it. That is what makes cutting with the credit card look so easy.
17:08 Why would you need to cut a tomato in that situation
Man I would love to buy a t shirt,i have the money but not a credit card😂😂

I'm grateful that you take time away from making cookies in that tree to make these videos. New sub and I like your content.
I really like your videos man keep up the great work
I had to watch a ad to watch a video about the review for it ;-; ok
It’s the awkwardness of the sharpen and the cutting with a credit card, it would be better if you could hold it with a handle attachment but that be more weird... but you were sharpening a credit card so I don’t know what I’m talking about
Just an FYI, the Bavarian edge is for honing a blade and just maintaining it, it is not meant for sharpening or giving an edge to a blade or piece of metal.
I like as he waves the knifes around very safe 😂
This was the most sacrilegious thing I have seen with knives in a long time. From cutting technique to watching you dull them it made me cringe incredibly hard. Still entertaining though LOL love your vids
Trying to get sponsored I see
The serrations in the knifes edge keep that part of the blade from reaching whatever your cutting and is harder to dull and alot harder to sharpen. Since there is an indentation of the blades edge and that type of knife sharpener isn't made for a serrated knife edge. It's made for straight knife edges. The Barbarian Edge is made to take the burr off a knifes edge (also known as honing a knife, which you can do with a leather strop) and not really made to sharpen a knife.
You put too much hard work into your videos to only have 90k subs, I appreciate the grind brotha and I'm subbed for that 👍
I like this guy he actually does tests properly like a scientist would well a scientist with a budget (no offense)
Fun fact you don't need a sharp knife to cut though tomatos
Fun fact buddy:
Maybe not, but the sharper it is the easier it will glide through, if it’s dull you will see it scratching it upon contact.
To prove just what you said for my wife cut a tomato affectively with a plastic knife. She can understand the whole tomato to show how well a knife can cut either.
@@jimmiebrown8101 The test is how thin you can slice it without crushing the slice
The test is to push cut the tomato as thin as possible with the knife without crushing it
@@valkyriesurvives5109 that makes sense.
I enjoy the vids keep up the good work man
Also best way to test if a knife is really sharp is to cut paper. A razor sharp blade will cut it like butter. Just for future reference
