- Ciao everyone! Today I'm shopping my closet for fall 2023 trends since fall trends can already be found in our closet and we can update our wardrobe for fall without shopping.
Making new outfits out of old clothes is a great way to build a sustainable wardrobe, to use the clothes you already have and find your personal style without shopping. I hope you like the looks!

Alyssa, your closet is so well curated, and we've been watching for so long, that when you said, "I don't have squares," I thought, "Did you get rid of the red plaid mini skirt?" and voila, you found it. Hahahahahahaha!

I’m never giving up my pleated skirts! In or out of style, they’re classic and I love them. They feel so feminine and swishy when I walk, yet have a tailored feel, too.

I just “SHOPPED MY OWN CLOSET”. I am lucky to have great closet space including a cedar closet. So I don’t do a major purge. I keep my classic clothes as long as they look great. I am so glad I have kept the midi-suede skirt, the midi- black leather coat, the fabulous black Coach tote, the red leather short zipper jacket. Good leather is so expensive today. Vintage out of your own closet - priceless

Hello Alyssa, when I was young I had few clothes, but I was content. When I was older, I wanted to be as chic and stylish as others. But I didn't have a style yet and I didn't like constantly trying things on in the store. Around the year 2000, online purchasing became popular on the Internet. I was overwhelmed by the possibilities. So I've accumulated a lot over the last 20 years, but I wasn't really satisfied. Since watching your channel and other slow fashion channels, I no longer feel like buying new clothes. I love and am happy with all the clothes I own. I've sorted out what I don't like. I mix and match my clothes as needed and use Pinterest for inspiration. This saves me a lot of time that I would otherwise spend looking for new clothes, shoes or bags. In general, 90% of my clothes are second hand, bought in very good condition. Thank you very much for your inspiration. This makes me feel like I used to, content and happy.
Alyssa, I always come to your videos when I am feeling uninspired by my own closet! It helps me to get creative instead of immediately shopping for something new. I so appreciate your taste, down-to-earth manner and overall take on sustainable fashion!!

Knee-high boots: I bought a pair in highschool, wore them out, bought a new pair and so on up until now, and I will continue to do so for the forseeable future. Black leather knee high boots are an absolute must in my closet for getting through the winter and they also just happen to look awesome.
I bought a pair of over the knee boots in the 90s, and although I wore them much less sometimes, they've always been used at least once a year.
Alyssa - you are a great example to people of only buying clothes that suit you - that way you can mix up your wardrobe to hit elements of most trends.

This video comes just in time. I’m challenging myself this winter to not buy any new clothes or shoes, only second hand. So I will shop my closet a lot and look for a plaid skirt second hand😊

Loved this! I live in Central America, where tighter is better, as far as clothing seems to go. I lived in Italy in 2022 and will be returning again next year, and need some help figuring out what closet items to take and what to toss. With the difference between these 2 cultures where I live in such opposite ends of the spectrum, this video was helpful in showing me new ways to wear what I have to suit both countries. Thank you!

Yes! Buy what you like and you will wear it forever! I had wool trousers that I loved but got rid of a regret that to this day because I would wear them

Alyssa, I only recently ‘discovered’ your videos and I can’t thank you enough for all you do! I love how you break down and interpret the trends - I feel like I never learned how to do that well, and every season I feel mystified. But more importantly, I love how you are inspired by the trends but don’t take them too seriously; you really know how to have fun with fashion and celebrate your own style. Jumbo studs, knee high boots and a slouchy clutch. I can do all of that. Easy, second-hand purchases to spice up my black on black on occasionally blue wardrobe!

It was so nice to witness you having so much fun with this! This challenge reminds me of playing dress up as a kid, when we created outfits for different themes with everything that we found in the house - and just had fun with it. Getting dressed should be playful and fun. Brava!

Oohh... butter yellow. I've been wanting to add something in that colour to my wardrobe for a while, if that's in, it's a good time to be able to! Awesome! Love how you can find something for most of these trends and style it in a brand new way even if it's old.

Awesome as always! Was wondering if you could use your floral maxi dress for the butter yellow trend with a slouchy knit and some boots? Also loved seeing old favourites like the olive and plaid skirts going strong! I have a few “statement” pieces like them that I wear rarely and in certain ways, but absolutely love how they bring out my style personality words - time to experiment 🤔😁
I thought about that too! With a lighter sweater its ok but the dress fabric is so light, it wouldnt be realistic for Canadian fall but definitely for Italy!

Yes to everything you said! Love, love, love Open Wardrobe. When I feel like shopping online , not because I need something, but just because I'm bored, I open up the app, and play around creating a new mini-capsule with the clothes I have. Or if I'm tempted to buy some particular on-trend item, I put it in my app and see what sort of outfits I can make, to see if I really "need" it. Or sometimes, I just search the internet for a better, more representative picture of my clothing items (the photos I take of my clothes aren't very good) - it feels like shopping, but waaay cheaper!😂

Your channel really helped us become more mindful of what we already have. Most of my latest and most favorite purchases were from thrift stores. Also now I check fabrics and metalware of the new stuff I buy.

One of my favourite videos you have made Alyssa. I loved most of the outfits, and feel inspired. Can't wait to wear my new-to-me brown leather jacket found at a consignment store in the spring with dark jeans and brown boots (I have already been wearing it this fall). Also my high waisted Levis' with a yellow cotton quilted jacket I found at a thrift store a few years back, and my so-soft black bamboo dress handed down to me from my bestie with black booties. Yum!!!
