Great review. This is an excellent car. I drove a 1.6 SE and this 1.0 model. In the first two minutes I thought forget all the other models, this is the one I'm buying. It's very impressive, the economy, the excellent exhaust sound, the shift quality, the heated seats, handling, just the car overall. I keep finding them brand new for under $13,000.00. There's nothing that can touch it in that price range. It's a hyper-miler or hot-rod as best quoted from Motor Trend. It's very versatile.
I've now put 53,000km on my Fiesta 1.0L, over the life I've averaged 4.8L/100km as measured on Fuelly (almost exactly 48mpg), my best tank came in just under 4.4L/100km (across about 700km), which is a stellar 53.5mpg. This was all driving at at least the speed limit (so I wasn't slowing people down), and not explicitly hypermiling. Love this car.
If you guys don't want to spend the extra $1,000 for the turbo 1.0L motor, you can get the standard 1.6L four cylinder non-turbo and with the 5 speed manual it's very reliable and you can get 40 mpg or better on the highway.
I disagree with the engine noise , actually for me the 1.0 ecoboost sounded cool, like a mini v6, sure its loud but I loved the turbo whoosh and that v6 like engine note, And I averaged 35 mpg combined with regular driving, like smashing the throttle when I see open road and driving enthusiastically at corners, this thing is pretty much the best compact car I ve ever driven even better than Honda Fit, They way I drive a Hyundai accent gives 33 mpg and Fit 34 mpg combined, damn good Fiesta
In the last benchmark made from over 1000 cars sold in europe, In that segment right now the 2 most efficient petrol non-hybrid cars are the Mitsubichi SpaceStar (almost always above 50mpg !) and the Peugeot 208 1.2 VTI (about 48mpg)
I noticed he is wearing quite chunky footwear here for this review, the only issue I have in my fiesta is that when I'm wearing shoes like that i find sometimes they clip each other while I'm using the pedals and sometimes cause me to brake quite sharply! I wonder did the reviewer have the same problem lol
How many years do you need to keep the car just to break even for the extra 1000.00 upcharge compared to the standard 4 cylinder and how long will it run with all that junk under the hood??I had a 93 Ford Festiva 1.3 5 speed and that car got the same if not better mileage and it was engine TROUBLEFREE for 160,000 miles, will that 3 cyl turbo last ??
+Mitchel Jensen That's what I got maximum with mine--I doubt this new 3 cylinder wonder engine will be troublefree for 160,000 ++++ miles and with that 1000.00 upcharge it will take years just to break even with any fuel economy savings
jim dandy I currently have a 2009 focus sedan 5 speed manual with 130,000 miles and never skips a beat, i actually got 46 mpg on a long trip once, on average for just daily driving this winter i was getting about 30mpg, and last summer i got around 35-40 mpg. I loved my festiva, it only had 120,000 miles on it, but the body was pretty rusted because of the harsh winters we have in wisconsin, but it never skipped a beat.
+Mitchel Jensen I have a 2009 Accent SE 5 speed with only 50 K on it, I get about what you get, 30 going back and forth to work, good but NOTHING compared to my 1993 Festiva, I wish I never sold it
Sam, I remember you got 46 mpg highway out of the Mazda3. What was the combined for Mazda3? I'm trying to decide between this fiesta sfe and a base Mazda3 for my wife. (yes she can drive a manual.) Any insight? Thanks!
Josh Shuo Zhang The Mazda3 did indeed perform better in mpg and much of our drive route was identical, though it was not video taped as such. As to a recommendation, drive them both. The smoother four-cylinder engine and additional space with the Mazda3 is a bonus. Remember that the Mazda3 is a significantly larger car than the Fiesta.
I think something is wrong then. I just drove home 20 miles highway with a few back roads. 53mpg! AC turned off tho. With ac running and a fair amount of back roads and not being real gentle on the throttle I average low 40s
I consistently get 43+ mpg in the summer, winter gas takes me below 40 though. What I find is really important is the type of gas you use and acceleration. You can't gun it, and the higher the octane rating the better my mileage. I use 89 usually, but the previous owner used 93 and said he got closer to 45 (which is also what I've seen although I stepped back down to 89 because I didn't want to pay for 93 lol)

How’s the car now? Still have it? I have the same car, 85k kilometers no problems

I love driving a stick shift!
I own an SFE and I like it. I do wish I had gotten the moonroof.
i like that rumble at this 1.0 booster... It's like I'm driving a sport car, and it has really good acceleration... i have focus though
Great review. Love the attention to detail on the gearing explanation
Thanks for the really good review.
It is def. on my list as a backroads car for Cal.

Small overlap is marginal now, and the engine sounds sporty. Does a WRX sound good to you?
My question is how would it do on a cross-country trip?

Lol someone lost the audio for the intro of this video
Just wondering, how tall are you? I'm 6'1 and deciding how well I'd fit in here
mooksball1 I'm 5'11 and still have room
I’ve NEVER gotten over 35mpg in mine.
