    for paintings, i prefer the old look, but the updated ones are more suitable for a small playing card, with higher contrasts and a smoother look. i hope you'll keep hosting the original versions, even as you update, since we're not seeing them as playing cards yet it looks a little odd

    Your Art always looks so soft and warm when I try to do a muted color painting it turns out looking bland and dull .

      mark wilcox maybe contrast the opacity. There is a wide range of shading in her work. Good luck

    • @Crosshill
      @Crosshill 6 років тому +2

      pay careful attention to what tones she adds. try to black and white the video to see how far she goes with adding tones
      i think the overall trick lies in how she shades. theres a lot of contrast in the overall piece, but when you look at individual sections, like the face, an arm, then all the shading within the regions is very soft, with clear but subtle transitions of shading.
      this makes it look soft, the warm tones added makes it look warm, and the overall contrast keeps it from being bland and the carefully done lighting makes it less dull

      Study values. Values superseed color. Her paintings have muted colors, but she has good value contrast.

      I've found that planning my image in just two values (one dark, one light) helps give the finished painting impact even without a lot of color. I obviously end up with more than two values, but I'm choosing where to place the extra values so that they enhance rather than detract from the initial value division (so, you can add darker darks, but only in existing "dark" areas, and lighter lights but only in "light" areas.)

    not true any more! You started to use photoshop...

    • @DeeDeethePheonyx
      @DeeDeethePheonyx 6 років тому +6

      Just because Photoshop is used doesn't make the piece bad or less amazing than it already is. Painting irl and digitally is still painting. And tbh, if someone is talented at both, you should be applauding them because not everyone can do that.

      I`m absolutely ok with photoshop, but I watched and enjoyed previous videos to feel the Pure Art in it`s origin. This is kinda meditation for me. After this video I felt disappointment. This is matter of my taste.

    • @Crosshill
      @Crosshill 6 років тому +3

      this may surprise you, but there are artists who have learned to use photoshop well, to add to a piece rather than compensating for a lack of skill. this was a lot rarer just 5 years ago, get on with the times, every great artist tends to have some mastery over photoshop, even just for rendering their physical art onto the screen, so most of what you see isn't "true" to begin with

    • @kostet1977
      @kostet1977 6 років тому

      It is not a surprize for me, I`m active photoshop user myself. But what I liked to see in Wylie`s videos is a Pure Art.

      I think for the most part she is using Photoshop to enhance the piece for digital viewing, because when you take a picture or scan of a painting, it doesn't look the same as the original. She did not change anything drastic, she just brought up the contrast to properly represent the piece on digital platforms and for printing purposes.
