Oh man, i just did this a few months back. I wish this existed back then :). Your way looks much easier than what I did. I bought a cheap upholstery needle and wrapped my fingers in duct tape (poor mans thimble). That wooden hand stitcher thing looks like a much better way to go. I spent two weekends doing all my repairs. Probably would have taken half as long with that thing.
