I often gripe with celebrity casting in musicals, but Jordin put her heart and soul into this. I find that celebrities - even when they can sing well - often don't bring life to the characters they're portraying like seasoned musical performers, but this was incredible.
It says something about a performance when, knowing nothing about the musical or it’s context, I’m here sobbing and feeling a strong emotionally connection to this character, lamenting her circumstances, her sacrifices, and encouraging her determination. What an amazing skill, a powerful voice Sparks has. What a beautifully written and composed song, to carry the weight of this moment.
Is it just me or do you guys also hear some people in the audience sobbing at the end? No wonder, I cried watching her performance. She is an amaaazing actress and singer.
Every day Broadway stars have a disciplined knowledge of placement, so not only do I commend her for holding her own, but she really showed some excellent placement on the final act of the song and gave me my favorite finish of the belt.
I'm so happy to see her come so far. My mother used to sing with her on their worship team at Calvery chapel in Phoenix AZ. My mom was the one to tell her to audition for American Idol. My parents worked with her mom at Keller Williams. They were all wonderful and very kind ❤️

Every time I hear this song, I think of my family, my mom. What she and we went through before my parent’s divorced. How she has climbed her way back to who she was before she got married. It’s a beautiful song and I’d never heard anyone else do it but Jordin killed it!❤
