Great video, i too am making my 1st kit in 25yrs, a 1:35 Italeri Tiger 1 my adult kid got me, she didn't know but the kit is actually the same one i last did 25yrs ago. The one i did B4 that being a 1:35 Tamiya Panther! I have since got a 1:35 T-35 to do next, thats the crazy Soviet tank with 5 turrets, the KGB having stolen the plans for the 5 turreted Vickers Independent
Hello there @prof_kaos9341 and thanks for watching. Glad to hear you are also building again, i am finding it very enjoyable try to learn this most enjoyable hobby. I m hoping to finish this on my next 4 days off, in readiness to having another 1/35 on the bench the following week. I have seen pics of the T-35 very odd and awesome, good luck with it.
Hi Andy. Yeah that muzzle brake, umm. Carefully cut it off and reposition it is the easy fix. Drill a small hole in the end of the barrel and in the back of the brake then put a small piece of wire in and superglue it all together, job done. The little hubcaps can also be superglued in the outer wheels and sprayed at the same time as the wheels. You don,t have a motor so its not like they will be turning. A lot of people think that all those little moving hatches are a bonus but there just for posing open if desired. But if you don,t want that then glue them shut, it makes life easier.Try to remember to make your build as simple as you can and think ahead with certain parts. We,ve all glued things on and then realised that we shouldn,t have. So we hack them off and do it again. The slight fit issues are to be expected on an old kit but I must confees I don,t remember it being a problem when I made this kit decades ago. But you will be alright with this kit and its a good way to improve your skills. Also you have plenty of figures so you can do a bit of surgery and make the figure you want. I had to build my own little Frankenstein recently in 1/72nd scale and he turned out very well. Anyway good luck and well done so far bud. Regards.
Hi Brian ooops yes that muzzle brake, should really have spotted that, your idea to solve the problem sounds totally logical, though i have decided on a different method i am going to paint it red, that way i will always be reminded that i F*#ked up and should be paying more attention LOL. I always attribute gapping to my skill or lack of so will assume that they were me. Its had its coat of primer now though i wont be doing much more on it for a week as i have turned my attention to a 1/700 warship.
@@TheNoviceModeller Hi Andy. I admire your honesty. In reality the muzzle brakes were screwed onto the barrel. So maybe when you get close to finishing it you could put a bar through it and make it look like it was being removed. Just an idea. The lesson here is study the instructions closely. I,ve done it and so have many others. But hey crack on buddy. Good luck.
Easily done, i am making my 1st kit in 25yrs, a Tiger 1. Ignoring modelling tips i went on late when tired & glued the interleaved wheels on the wrong suspension arms on one side but i managed to get them off cleanly the next day, luckily I'd only stuffed up 4 not all 16
Being able to cover up imperfections and be satisfied with the end result is the sign of a would be craftsman, never get antagonized by errors or imperfections, always learn from them.
when it comes to wheels, a little trick I use is to make a really thin mix of black (pretty much a wash) then just tap it on the tyres next to the rims, and it will wick around and leave a really sharp outline to the tyre that can then be painted normally. theres a little video on my channel where I paint about 10 1/72 truck wheels really easily and quickly that shows this better than I'm explaining it here.
Hello again Phil, LOL the "Dirty dozen"? now i keep meaning to finish those damn things off, 3 have had their base coat of varnish and are waiting to have decals applied the other 9 are in varying degrees of un-completion. Am actually building a 1/700 warship this evening. hope you are well.
@@TheNoviceModeller I'm good thanks Andy - work has kept me away from the bench unfortunately so I'm guessing you've built at least 20 or 30 kits whilst I pick up and put down the same one. Frustrating.
I think such things can be explained as "the work life balance" i have a job and now i have another job......a youtube channel, consequently i now have a "work life imbalance" as my time off from work is occupied by a different kind of more enjoyable work. hmmmmmmm, philosophical musings, i may have had a couple of whiskeys this evening, my favoured brand is Singleton, there's another clue as to my time availability for model building PMSL. hope you get back to your bench soon and don't spend too much time listening to the ramblings of "a muppet who makes models badly"
When i was in uni i hung around with 3 groups a bunch of outdoorsey types in the Caving Club (spelunking) i was President for a year, a bunch of normals who did normal stuff like drink beer and a bunch of stoners who liked to knit, unfortunately something ate large chunks of the 6ft scarf i knitted so it ended up in the bin. I don't recall studying much LOL.

Hi Andy! Nice work. Odd about the gaps, though. I haven't built this one since returning to the hobby, but that's unusual for a Tamiya kit, even a less-expensive one like this. In any case, you've done a great job repairing them. I'll look forward to the rest of the build! 👍
Thanks Steve, i always put any gaps that i have on kits down to my own skills, or lack of them LOL, TBH they were quite minor apart from the one on the underside of the turret which may have been intentional. TBH i probs wouldn't recommend this kit to a more experienced modeller but for a novice like myself it is ideal to get my teeth into and have a practice and a bit of fun.
@@TheNoviceModeller I presume you've used Tamiya thin? Apply some more and see if you can pull it out, Tamiya thin melts plastic and softens glued joints. Good Luck!
Hi Martin yes i have tried the glue on glue method for seperation and it worked well, i don't think i will be messing with it though as i generally have a time delay between uploading and doing things the Panther is now primed so i am just gonna put this in the "learned a new thing today" pile. cheers andy.
Apart from the muzzle brake good work young man 👍. Working hatches always good but most open to an empty interior 😭😭,y'all have to get a full interior kit soon👀👀🍸🍸
Thanks for your encouragement Steve, i will forward your thoughts on expensive aftermarket interior kits to my bank manager, i promise i wont pay much attention to his advice LOL.
Tracks, paint them dark brown and drybrush them various metal shades. Avoid obvious red shades. Tracks are special alloys, not mild steel. Take a close look at the next bulldozer or excavator you see (hmm, they mostly have rubber tracks now...).
Cheers @lllordllloyd I am thinking that done right with weathering, rust, mud etc they can be one of the most interesting parts of any build. I have recently bought the full set of Ammo by MIG Encyclopedia of Armour Modelling Techniques so i have all this fun loveliness to look forward to.
Hey Andy, looking good, these armour kits are are really different from aircraft kits. Over all it seems the parts are easier to work with being bigger. I got a F-22 1/72 kit on sale and not only is it parts heavy, THERE are some sprues with parts smaller the needs, so it will be a while before I tackle that.. Cheers Bob
Hi Bob i think you are right in this case though some of the 1/35 kits i have are terrifying LOL. Hmmmm an F22 now that is a damn sexy aircraft. Currently also building a 1/700 warship, vids up in a few days.
Yeah, a bit of a hiccup with the muzzle brake opening on top and bottom rather than to the sides-hence the unhappy face on the bottom of the tank🙂 Well, it's for building practice isn't it. Don't shirk the figures-a basic German grey for the tunic and pants. Brown belts, black boots and silver for the metal bits. Apply a black wash for the shadows. Flesh with a red wash for the faces and hands-don't bother painting the eyes or lips, but a hint of hair colour won't go astray. Panzer Korps pink for the forage cap piping, if you're willing. Use your airbrush to experiment with the camo scheme. Look forward to the final reveal.
Hi jeremy, i may have a go at the figures sooner rather than later but i think my plan is to have a couple of vids detailing my experience as a novice building and painting figures. i will be airbrushing the kit and will be having a go at applying a camo scheme, i am reckoning with my smallest needle brush set down to low.
Hello there @seansmodelingchannel1149 and thanks for watching. I have two of the later tamiya variants and the tracks do appear inferior to them, perfectly good kit for a novice like myself to practice on though.
